DC vs CSK Preview Dream11. Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings Preview Dream11 Prediction
A shout out to @jaishreeram1898 who co-wrote this preview just after university class, during exams period. Kudos! Be sure to follow on Twitter.
So soon after their first games, both sides are back at it again. The fifth match sees exciting DC host experienced CSK, with both teams having started their campaigns with wins. DC play their first game at home two nights after a magnificent win, led by the brilliant Rishabh Pant.
Delhi Capitals fans can get excited. Last season’s bottom-placed team knocked off one of the favourites in an incredible match at the Wankhede. DC’s batsmen showed great form against MI, and they will need to be on guard again against a CSK side on a Delhi track that often supports spinners. Can they make two from two?
Chennai Super Kings brushed RCB side on a very difficult home pitch. That the chase of 71 was tough work against an incorrectly-manned RCB attack showcased just how difficult the pitch was. Conditions in Delhi often aid spin, but surely less than Saturday’s opener, which will give us a chance to see CSK’s batting line up gear up. Will it be they who make it two from two?

Key to a DC win
In their first game at Feroz Shah Kotla, DC will be hoping for a better start than they had at Mumbai. Both Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer were out before the fourth over was complete, which is something they need to avoid against an experienced side. A strong start from the top three paves the way for in-form Colin Ingram and Rishabh Pant to express themselves even further. Indeed, Pant was a delight to watch in the last game, and they will look to continue the same form against CSK.
Also, there shouldn’t be much of a change on the bowling front. DC chipped away at MI, taking regular wickets to leave MI helpless in a monstrous chase. Amit Mishra could be a preferred option to Rahul Tewatia (who did take four catches), but significant onus is on the seamers up front to cause damage. With CSK possessing a strong top order, the likes of Kagiso Rabada Ishant Sharma and Keemo Paul will be keen to build on their promising first up showings. Can Trent Boult also chime in with a more economical display?
Key to a CSK win
CSK’s spinners ran riot on IPL 2019’s opening night. Harbhajan Singh started it, then Imran Tahir kept the momentum going, with Ravindra Jadeja chiming in. Eight wickets were shared among these three, who will be key again on a pitch that can aid spin. Shardul Thakur was surplus to requirements in Chennai, but could be a key man here, along with Deepak Chahar, in keeping a dangerous DC lineup quiet in the powerplay and death overs.
Also, the chase of 71 certainly wasn’t a walk in the park for CSK in Chennai. However, we all know CSK’s batting is a powerhouse, and they will come harder this time. Shane Watson, who scored a duck first up, remains a key man. After all, he had a superb PSL campaign, as well as IPL 2018 where he helped CSK lift the trophy. He and Ambati Rayudu will be crucial against DC’s seamers early, setting a platform for the likes of Suresh Raina, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo to build on.
Possible Playing 11
DC will be right to go in with the winning combination from the opening match. As mentioned, Amit Mishra is a potential option.
My possible DC XI: 1. Shikhar Dhawan, 2. Prithvi Shaw, 3. Shreyas Iyer (c), 4. Colin Ingram, 5. Rishabh Pant, 6. Keemo Paul, 7. Axar Patel, 8. Rahul Tewatia, 9. Kagiso Rabada, 10. Trent Boult, 11. Ishant Sharma
@jaishreeram1898’s possible DC XI: 1. Shikhar Dhawan, 2. Prithvi Shaw, 3. Shreyas Iyer (c), 4. Colin Ingram, 5. Rishabh Pant (wk), 6. Keemo Paul, 7. Axar Patel, 8. Kagiso Rabada, 9. Amit Mishra, 10. Trent Boult, 11. Ishant Sharma
For CSK, there will always be a temptation to bring in an extra seamer. However, the Delhi track, as evident in the recent India-Australia ODI, aids spin.
CSK: 1. Shane Watson, 2. Ambati Rayudu, 3. Suresh Raina, 4. Kedar Jadhav, 5. MS Dhoni (c & wk), 6. Dwayne Bravo, 7. Ravindra Jadeja, 8. Deepak Chahar, 9. Harbhajan Singh, 10. Shardul Thakur, 11. Imran Tahir

Key stats and points:
- Rishabh Pant vs MS Dhoni. Who will get a longer chance to bat? With Rishabh Pant’s amazing 78* (27) vs MI (and 79 off 45 last year vs CSK), he is difficult to ignore. So too MS, who scored 51* (22) vs DC last year.
- Shane Watson was man of the match with 78 (40) in CSK’s first meeting with DC in IPL 2018. However, how will he handle a possible turning track?
- Shikhar Dhawan hit 92* (50) in his last outing vs DC. However, he struggled badly vs Trent Boult in the India ODIs earlier this year. Different conditions, different Dhawan?
- Ambati Rayudu in IPL 2018: 602 runs at 43.00. He feels at home in IPL. Rayudu was second-top scorer (28) in very tough conditions in the opening match.
- Suresh Raina vs DC in IPL 2018: 1 & 15. However, he is always worth considering, given his experience.
- CSK’s spinners combined for eight wickets on Saturday. Will they dominate again at a ground known for assisting spin?
- Trent Boult vs CSK in Delhi 2018: 2/20 (4).
- Kagiso Rabada is coming off a fine 2/23 against a strong MI side.

Match Prediction
Another cracking match in prospect.
Indeed, it is the youth of DC vs experience of CSK. @jaishreeram1898 believes there can be an upset, and so do I. I have a sneaky feeling DC will get the job done!
