Strap yourselves in, the 56th match of IPL 2025 promises to be a beauty. This highly anticipated clash between the in-form Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) will have a huge say as to who finishes where in the playoffs.

MI are on fire. They have won six in a row to storm not only into the top four positions, but IPL favouritism. Hardik Pandya’s team have not only won those matches, but they have thrashed all who have come before them, with the bowling attack and top order clicking.

However, one small doubt about MI is that they need to deliver against current top four teams. Their past six wins have come against CSK, SRH (twice), RR, LSG and DC, so here is an opportunity to test how far they have come.

Speaking of strong top orders, GT are the epitome of it this season. They put SRH to the sword on Friday, with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill showcasing their brilliant opening partnership once again. But, like MI, GT have questions of their own, including what happens if they lose early wickets. MI’s strong powerplay attack will be aiming to do just that.

• Jos Buttler is in great form (scores of 97*, 41*, 50* and 64 in his past four knocks) and loves playing MI. Buttler has scored 572 runs against MI at an average of 57.2 and strike rate of 149.
• Ryan Rickelton has found his groove in recent matches. He comes into this game off consecutive half-centuries and five 20+ scores in his past six games.

Key batter picks:

• Suryakumar Yadav is having a dream season. He has made a 25+ score in every match, including 68*, 40*, 54 and 48* in his past four outings. SKY has great head-to-head numbers against Siraj and Rashid (see matchups below).
• Sai Sudharsan is one of two players (along with Virat Kohli) to hit 500 runs this season. He has made nine 30+ scores in his past ten innings, including 63 (41) against MI.
• Shubman Gill has struck three consecutive half-centuries and four fifties in his past five matches. Overall against MI, Gill has 478 runs at an average of 36.8 and strike rate of 148.9. However, Gill has a terrible record at the Wankhede, with 74 runs in nine innings at an average of 8.2.
• Rohit Sharma is back in form with three fifties in his past four matches. He has 82 runs off 59 balls against Siraj in the IPL (one wicket). He also strikes at 170 against Prasidh Krishna (30 balls, 51 runs, two wickets).

• Trent Boult is on song. The left-arm seamer has taken ten wickets in his past three games. His battle against the GT top order could prove crucial to the result.

• Rashid Khan has a great head-to-head record against Rohit Sharma (see below). He also strikes at 214.49 with the bat at the Wankhede, so he can be used as a pinch hitter if needed.
• Will Jacks can be a decent pick in this game. GT have some left-handers where Jacks’ offspin can come in handy.
• Mohammed Siraj bowls in the crunch overs. However, he strikes every 30 deliveries overall in ten matches at Wankhede.
