“My heart rejoices” – Twitter reacts to Fawad Alam debut home century | Twitter reactions to Fawad Alam’s century in his first Test at home

A player with nearly 13,000 First Class runs at an average of over 56 should not be made to wait until he’s 35 to play a home Test. For Pakistan, the UAE was home for a decade, but this man didn’t even play a Test there.

That man is Fawad Alam.

In his first Test at home, Fawad displayed all the fighting characteristics that led to many crying out over a number of years for his appearance in the Test side. And now he’s making it count. On a challenging pitch against a potent Proteas’ attack, the gritty and unorthodox left-hander overcame variable bounce, turn and pace to notch up his third Test century.

And Twitter was all over it. Former players and fans were full of praise for a player that had to wait over 10 years between his third and fourth Tests. And now he’s making up for lost time. Fawad has proven that putting runs on the board will eventually pay off, and he has proven those doubters, who said that his technique wouldn’t hold up in Tests, wrong.

A truly memorable day for a patient player who had to be so patient for over a decade. Persistence pays off, and that is certainly true in the case of Fawad Alam. Thanks to Fawad, who led the way, Pakistan are well placed in their ongoing Test against South Africa. A win, after being 33/4 on day one, would certainly be a fine turnaround.
