Cricket News: 2/2/22: Tributes flow in for the late, great Richie Benaud | Tributes for legend Benaud on special date

Tributes have flowed for the late, great Richie Benaud on today’s special date. Both dates 2/2/22 and 22/2/22 are reminiscent of Benaud’s famous pronunciation of “two”, reading “two for two, two, two”.

Benaud is both one of cricket’s greatest all-rounders and broadcasters. He scored 2,201 runs and took 248 wickets in 63 Tests, along with 11,719 runs and 945 wickets in First Class cricket. He led the way in broadcasting thereafter, with his true love and knowledge of the game and gentlemanship shining through television screens and radio stations around the world.

Cricket fans were quick to recognise Benaud on these dates, such is his legacy of inspiring fans and fellow broadcasters alike. Below are some of the tweets and reactions in honour of the late, great Benaud.
