Chennai Super Kings (CSK) invested a total sum of INR 28.40 crores in the last IPL auction for 19-year-old Kartik Sharma and 20-year-old Prashant Veer. Both uncapped players were picked for 14.20 crores each.
Fans were excited to see both the players in action during IPL 2026 and many experts rated them very highly. Kartik Sharma is known for his brute hitting, while Prashant Veer was labeled as Ravindra Jadeja’s replacement at CSK.
But IPL 2026 hasn’t started well for CSK, as they lost their first three games in a row. Their top order isn’t clicking, and the bowlers have been very expensive.
Kartik Sharma has scored 25 runs in three innings with a highest score of 21 and only two sixes so far. Prashant Veer played well for his 43 runs in the last game against RCB, but he’s yet to bowl in the tournament.
‘Don’t trust these two [Sharma, Veer] playing proper shots and scoring runs’: S Badrinath
Amidst all this, former CSK player Subramaniam Badrinath has shared his thoughts about CSK picking the two young players for a hefty price in the auction.
On his YouTube channel, Cric it with Badri, he said, “I don’t know who gave CSK the suggestion to pick these two (Veer & Kartik). I will be surprised if they score runs. Even if they do, it’ll be only through a fluke. I don’t trust these two playing proper shots and scoring runs. I think they are tremendously overpriced.”
This has created a buzz on social media as Badrinath’s comments seem too harsh to the fans, especially considering the fact that both players are quite young. Fans also went on to criticise the former CSK player for his comments on the two young players.
CSK’s at the bottom of the table with three defeats, and they’ll have to turn things around quickly before it’s too late for them in IPL 2026.
