The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is underway, and the excitement continues to build as the playoffs race heats up. Since the tournament was inaugurated in 2008, the IPL has become a source of excitement and thrill for the players and supporters.
The growth in the IPL has seen more competitive teams, providing more surprises and entertainment. The players have to be on their game skill wise as missing the mark even slightly can mean defeat.

Highest team totals in the IPL: Who is at the top?
On that note, let us look at the five highest team totals in the history of IPL.
1. 287 for 3 by Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, IPL 2024
Sunrisers Hyderabad dominate the list of highest team totals in IPL history. With power hitters like Travis Head, Abishesk Sharma and Henreich Klasen, SRH are capable of piling enough runs and give opponents nightmares. They are the side with the most 200+ team totals.
SRH registered the highest-ever team total in IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They amassed a massive 287 for 3 thanks to explosive batting from their top order.
Travis Head scored a scintillating 102 off 41 balls, smashing nine boundaries and eight sixes. Heinrich Klaasen made a quick fire 67 off 31 balls, while Abdul Samad provided the final flourish with a blistering 37 off just 10 deliveries.
RCB bowlers were taken to the cleaners, with Reece Topley conceding 68 runs in his four overs, while Lockie Ferguson went for 52 runs.
2. 286 for 6 by Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals, IPL 2025
Sunrisers Hyderabad began their IPL 2025 season with a bang. They posted a mammoth 286 for 6 in 20 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad in their opening match of the 2025 tournament. With that, they also became the first team to register a 200+ total in the 18th season of the league.
Opening the innings, Head provided SRH with a quickfire start by scoring 67 off 31 balls. Klaasen (34 off 14) and Nitish Reddy (30 off 15) broke the back of RR bowlers. England fast bowler Jofra Archer proved to be the most expensive, conceding 76 runs in his four overs whilst going wicketless.
Ishan Kishan emerged as the hero for SRH, who did not spare the Rajasthan Royals bowlers. The wicketkeeper-batter notched up an unbeaten 106 off 47 balls, hitting six sixes and 11 boundaries. It was also the maiden IPL century for Ishan, who also became the first SRH batter to score a century on his debut game for the franchise.
277 for 3 by Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2024
Sunrisers Hyderabad were a formidable force in the 2024 edition. Mumbai Indians bowlers were at their receiving end as they piled up 277 for 3 in 20 overs.
Head once again took the charge, smashing 62 off 24 balls. He was complemented by another explosive hitter Abhishek Sharma, who took just 23 balls to blast 63, recording the fastest fifty for SRH. Klaasen was equally ruthless, hitting an unbeaten 80 off 34 balls to complete the SRH carnage.
272 for 7 by Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals, IPL 2024
Kolkata Knight Riders makes a rare appearance in the list dominated by SRH. KKR posted 272 for 7 against Delhi Capitals at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, which was then the second-highest team total in IPL history.
The colossal total was helped by half-centuries by Sunil Narine (85) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (54). Phil Salt and Narine provided KKR with a sensational start, accumulating 60 runs in under five overs before Salt fell to Anrich Nortje.
Narine scored at a staggering strike rate of 217.95 as he formed a 104-run partnership with Raghuvanshi at a run rate of 13 per over. All-rounders Andre Russell (41 off 19 balls), and Rinku Singh (26 off eight balls) provided the finishing touch. Nortje was the most expensive bowler for Delhi Capitals, conceding 59 runs in four overs.
266 for 7 by Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals, IPL 2024
Travis Head led the SRH carnage as they notched up 266 for 7 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. SRH stormed to 125 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay – the highest powerplay score in IPL history.
The Aussie batter scored an 89 off 32 balls, while Abhishek Sharma notched up 46 off just 12 balls forging an impressive 131-run partnership in just 6.2 overs. Shahbaz Ahmed contributed with an unbeaten 59 off 29 balls to help SRH post another giant total.
