There was confusion when it came to Shashank Singh’s purchase in the IPL 2024 Auction. Punjab Kings thought they had bought the wrong player, and tried to reverse their decision as the bidding process moved to the next player.
The franchise then confirmed that they did in fact purchase the Shashank Singh they intended to. Wouldn’t they be glad they did. The 32-year-old played a gem of an innings to knock off Gujarat Titans in their own den, guiding the Kings to a thrilling three-wicket win with just one ball to spare after they needed 41 off the final three overs.
Earlier, Shubman Gill continued his love affair with the Narendra Modi Stadium. His 48-ball 89* is his seventh 50+ score in 16 innings on this ground. Contributions from Sai Sudharsan (33 off 19 balls) and Rahul Tewatia (23* off 8 balls) enabled the Titans to score 116 off their final ten overs to score what looked to be an imposing 199.
The score looked even more imposing when Punjab Kings lost regular wickets to fall to 111/5 by the 13th over. Then, the dangerous Jitesh Sharma fell to a Rashid Khan full toss to leave the Kings needing 50 off 27 balls for an unlikely win.

PBKS’ odds grew bigger as the equation was 41 to win off the final three overs. Credit also goes to Ashutosh Sharma who struck three fours in the 18th over to get the equation down to a more manageable 25 off 12.
Sharma then smashed his fellow Sharma, Mohit, for a six in the 19th over, which was followed by a Shashank special to bring the equation down to just seven needed. Despite Nalkande’s superb effort with the ball in the last over, a thick, unintended edge over point and a leg bye got the Kings home.
