Cricket News: Liz Truss reigns as UK PM – the best cricket references | The best cricket references to Liz Truss resigning as UK Prime Minister

Liz Truss has set an unfortunate record of the shortest reign of any UK Prime Minister in history. Her 44 days in office were difficult to say the least, and cricket fans can certainly relate.

Short and difficult reigns at the crease are synonymous with the usual weekend league cricketer, with many fans identifying a great opportunity to nail a perfect cricket reference to the Truss and English political proceedings.

The best cricket references to Liz Truss resigning as Prime Minister

Here is a look at some of the best cricket references to the news. “Bowled her stumps out the ground after just 45 days,” one tweet read. “Run out without facing,” read another when asked by England’s Barmy Army about how the political situation can be explained in cricket terms.

And here is a fun fact in between all the fun. The great Sachin Tendulkar batted an astounding 70,211 minutes in his glittering career. The going wasn’t as smooth for Truss, who managed 64,800 minutes as Prime Minister.

“I thought this #T20worldcup22 has been quite eventful with multiple upsets and close games. But what’s happening in 10 Downing Street has been more dramatic,” another tweet read.

“The players put the kettle on in the dressing room as the openers walked out but couldn’t drink the tea because they were bowled before it had boiled,” was another hilarious scenario.
