MI vs RR reactions: Fans take aim at the Mumbai Indians after awful batting performance against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede
Mumbai Indians (MI) have lost their third-straight game in IPL 2024, going down in a heavy defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Wankhede stadium. MI got off to a horror start, with three of their top four falling for golden ducks against the magnificent Trent Boult. Despite a flicker of hope from the Hardik Pandya-Tilak Varma partnership and fine Akash Madhwal spell, RR were always in control.
The nature of the defeat is concerning. A lot of the talk before the tournament was how the decision to replace five-time winning captain Rohit Sharma with Hardik would impact the team. There seems to be a sense of distraction among the playing group with outside noise growing more deafening by the minute.
Boos even rung out at the Wankhede during the toss.
R Ashwin came out in support of Hardik Pandya a few days ago, as have pundits and analysts. Sanjay Manjrekar even told the crowd to “behave”. There is a big focus on MI at the moment and it’s not on the cricket itself, which is greatly impacting their game.
Reactions: MI slammed for decision making after poor defeat against RR
There are still 11 games to go in the league stage. But, in a competitive league where only four playoff spots are up for grabs, MI need to get moving and fast. However, many fans believe the franchise have created such a mess that may be difficult to come out from this season.
“Mumbai have created such a mess for absolutely no reason, could have very easily handled the change well like many teams have done in the past. Hardik keeps bearing the brunt for it,” tweeted one fan.
