Misbah-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain, has stepped down from the men’s national selection committee after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made major changes to the Test squad and the coaching staff, as per Cricinfo.
PCB has not yet accepted Misbah’s resignation. He has also decided to step down from his position as batting consultant at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
Misbah has been a vital part of Pakistan cricket for a number of years. In 2019 he was appointed as team head coach and chief selector. He resigned as chief selector in October 2020 to concentrate on his coaching role and left as head coach in 2021.

What made Misbah-ul-Haq resign?
England defeated Pakistan by 194 runs at Lord’s. The Pakistan setup underwent major changes after the loss in the second Test. The PCB has released seven players from its Test squad, including Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad.
The coaching staff also changed, with Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul removed from their head coach and bowling coach jobs, respectively. Mike Hesson, Pakistan’s white-ball coach, was called in quietly to take over for the third Test at Edgbaston.
According to CricBlog sources within the PCB administration, this sudden cull of players and coaches was made by the PCB office bearers without Misbah’s consultation, which led him to send his resignation to the board, asking them to relieve him of his national duties.
England has already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The hosts will now be looking to complete a series whitewash while Pakistan will be looking to avoid another embarrassing defeat and end the tour with something to take home.
