Most boring T20 series ever? Twitter reactions as England thrash Sri Lanka 3-0 | Sri Lanka team trolled after losing 3-0 to England in one-sided series

Seven years ago, Sri Lanka were crowned the World T20 Champions. Now, fans from around the world don’t miss the opportunity to pinpoint their remarkable decline.

In without a doubt one of the most one-sided assignments in T20I history, England thumped Sri Lanka once again to sweep the T20I series 3-0. This was when England were well below their absolute best particularly in the second-half of their batting innings at Southampton. However, it was more than enough, despite Dushmantha Chameera’s superb spell of 4/17.

Sri Lanka, who won the toss for the third-straight match, this time opted to field after under-par batting performances in the first two T20Is. But, it was the same old story as Kusal Perera’s men failed to even reach 100 as they were left embarrassed by offering no competition in the series. Their top score in the top eight was a 27-ball 19 for Oshada Fernando, which was nothing short of a struggle.

In the final T20I, three England bowlers conceded less than four runs per over in their allotted four. Chris Woakes (1/9), Chris Jordan (1/13) and Sam Curran (2/14) partnered David Willey (3/27) to completely blow away the fragile Sri Lankan batting lineup. This was after Dawid Malan produced a timely return to scoring form (76), only falling short of Sri Lanka’s team score (91) by 15 runs.

As always, fans took to Twitter to express their views on a very one-sided match and series. Here are some of the reactions:

Attention will now turn to the ODI series, which starts on 29 June. However, given the bench strength of England and Sri Lanka’s struggles, is there any chance the ODIs will be competitive? Unlikely.
