The Sanjiv Goenka-led RPSG Group plans to develop a new high performance cricket centre near Old Trafford in Manchester. The two sides have signed a multi-million pound deal to purchase land behind the famous cricket ground with the project to be done in partnership with Lancashire County Cricket Club.
A joint statement about the land acquistion was announced by Lancashire earlier today on their own website themselves.
The new facility is expected to enhance the training infrastructure available to players connected with RPSG Group’s cricket teams, while also helping Lancashire Cricket’s long term development plans.
RPSG Teams Will Get to Enjoy and Train at a Modern Training Facility
The agreement means Lancashire’s current indoor training centre will see a major upgrade. The new complex will feature world class indoor practice nets, a fully equipped gym, outdoor training areas, sports science support and medical facilities to meet the needs of modern day professional cricket.
The centre will cater to players of the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred and Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 league in South Africa. It will also be open to international and touring teams playing at Old Trafford.
Sanjiv Goenka, talking about the partnership said “Cricket is at the heart of RPSG Group’s sporting investments, and this partnership reflects our long-term commitment to the game. Lancashire Cricket shares our ambition to build facilities that give players every opportunity to succeed, and we are proud to be investing alongside them in a project that will benefit the club and the Super Giants family in the wider game development for years to come.
“This is about leaving a lasting legacy for cricket in this region – a facility that will shape the development of their players for generations to come.”
The new development is part of a wider plan to improve cricket facilities at Old Trafford and AO Farington Cricket Ground. The aim is to enhance the facilities for Lancashire teams and assist the Super Giants franchise in growing across a range of competitions.
