South Africa sealed their second-straight seven-wicket victory over India in Cape Town, completing an excellent comeback to win the Test series 2-1 after a comprehensive defeat in Centurion.
This is without a doubt one of South Africa’s sweeter Test series wins in recent times. They were dealt a blow before the series with class pacer Anrich Nortje ruled out with injury, before Quinton de Kock announced a shock retirement after the Proteas were beaten soundly in the first Test.

Instead, they will prepare for the ODI series with a sense of what could have been. After KL Rahul led the way superbly on the series’ opening day, the Indian batsmen from thereon rarely displayed the patience and technique required in such conditions. This is highlighted most by all 20 wickets falling to catches in the Cape Town Test, with the strategy of five specialist batsmen and a keeper-batsman keeping the Proteas in the contest.
And, when you add the poor form of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, as well as the lack of batting belief from R Ashwin and Shardul Thakur, it makes the ask all the more taller. India’s bowlers worked hard and created opportunities, but the South Africans expertly dealt with the pressure to seal the deal in comfortable fashion.
