Smriti Mandhana has made history as the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket across all formats. The India opener reached the milestone in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Group A clash against Hong Kong at the Dubai International Stadium. Mandhana surpassed former India captain Mithali Raj’s tally of 10,868 international runs, and her overall tally reached 10,880 runs.
Mandhana reached the milestone in a brilliant innings of 124 runs from just 64 balls. She smashed 14 fours and seven sixes. In the 18th over, Mandhana broke the record via a hat-trick of sixes off Ruchitha Venkatesh. Her innings were crucial in India’s strong performance against Hong Kong.
After the match, Mandhana revealed that she was unaware of the milestone while batting, regardless of how she achieved such a big record. She came to know about the record only after her innings and said it was an excellent day for Indian cricket.
“Yeah, till I was batting, I didn’t know what record (I had broken) because I didn’t know what exact runs (I had made). But if I look back, I would say a very good day for Indian cricket,” Smriti said at the post-match press conference as quoted by the ICC.
Mandhana also heaped praise on Mithali Raj after surpassing her tally of international runs. Raj was one of the biggest names in women’s cricket for several years and was the highest run scorer in women’s international cricket.
“Of course Mithali di has been such a legend and a role model. And we’ve all grown up watching her bat so to go past in the tally of runs is something that I’d definitely not imagined to do,” Mandhana said.
