Group 2 will now head into its final round of matches, with a number of scenarios still possible. India and South Africa occupy the top two sports, while Pakistan and Bangladesh still have hope of qualifying to the 2022 T20 World Cup semi finals.
T20 World Cup Group 2 Semi Finals Qualification Scenarios
1: India

- Remaining match: Zimbabwe
India’s six-run win over Bangladesh was vital. But, the job is not done yet. If South Africa beat Netherlands, India could be out of the top two before their game against Zimbabwe as either Pakistan or Bangladesh will move to six points given they play each other.
If Pakistan and South Africa win, and then India lose, Rohit Sharma’s team will be out given their inferior net run rate to Pakistan and lower points than South Africa’s seven. If India loses and Bangladesh beats Pakistan, the men in blue will very likely qualify on net run rate.
A win by any margin will see India top the group.
2: South Africa

- Remaining match: Netherlands
Like India, a win by any margin for South Africa will be enough to see them through to the semi finals. Should they lose to Netherlands, however, they will be eliminated from the World Cup as either Bangladesh or Pakistan will overtake them.
3: Pakistan

- NRR: +1.117
- Remaining match: Bangladesh
Pakistan have picked up their game after losing their first two matches. They will qualify for the semi finals if:
- They beat Bangladesh (by any margin)
- India loses to Zimbabwe OR South Africa loses to Netherlands.
4: Bangladesh
- 4 points
- NRR: -1.276
- Remaining match: Pakistan
Bangladesh’s poor net run rate of -1.276 means that they need to beat Pakistan and hope South Africa to lose to Netherlands.
5: Zimbabwe
- 3 points
- NRR: -0.313
- Remaining match: India
Zimbabwe sit two points outside of the top two, but they can no longer qualify. Either Pakistan or Bangladesh will move to six points, and India are already on six. The most Zimbabwe can finish with is five.
6: Netherlands
- Points: 2
- NRR: -1.233
- Remaining match: South Africa
Netherlands will be aiming to finish on a high by upsetting South Africa.
