Tributes have flown in spades for Tammy Beaumont after the England great announced her retirement from international cricket. The historic Test match against India, which begins on July 10, will be her last match.
After making her debut as an 18-year-old in 2009, Beaumont has gone on to make 260 appearances for her country across formats, scoring the most ODI centuries of any England women’s player (12). She also won player of the tournament in England’s memorable triumph in the 2017 ODI World Cup.
Her final match will also be memorable. A big crowd is expected for the first-ever women’s Test at Lord’s, and it’s an event that shows how far women’s cricket has come.
“In my lifetime, women couldn’t even go in the pavilion and couldn’t be MCC members, but now it sounds like it’s going to be packed,” Beaumont said, as quoted by cricinfo.
“To potentially play in front of 20,000 people in a Test match at Lord’s shows how far the game has come in a short space of time. It’s just incredible and something that we can all be really proud of.”

Beaumont announced her retirement after scoring 7,325 runs for England across formats. This includes a double hundred in Tests against Australia, a format the opener admitted she would’ve loved to play more of had there been the opportunities.
“Test cricket for women should not be tokenism,” she said. “I made my debut in front of five people besides the groundmen and now we will be playing a Test match potentially in front of 20,000.”
Fans were full of praise for Beaumont, who finishes as England’s second-highest ODI run-scorer in women’s cricket behind the great Charlotte Edwards.
“Congratulations on an incredible career Tammy Beaumont – always been one of my favourite cricketers and given it your all. You should be very proud, and good luck in whatever the future brings,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).
“I’m really going to miss Tammy Beaumont. She’s a classy player with a batting style that’s easy on the eye. I’ve always enjoyed watching her and was privileged to see her score her double century at Trent Bridge in 2023,” wrote another.
