Cricket News: Twitter reactions as Jasprit Bumrah scores world record 35 off one Stuart Broad over | Bumrah hits 29 runs off Stuart Broad
So, who had Jasprit Bumrah as their pick to break the world record for most runs in a Test over? In another example of cricket’s glorious uncertainties, Stuart Broad, one of the highest wicket-takers in Test history with 550, now has the record of the most runs conceded in one over in Test history.
To Jasprit Bumrah.
Before the Edgbaston Test, Bumrah had just 174 Test runs to his name, with a top score of 34*. He smashed 29 off his own bat in the record-breaking over which read: 4, 5wd, 6nb, 4, 4, 4, 6 and 1.
It extended India’s significant dominance over the Test match to date, after Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja both scored centuries to resurrect the tourists from the depths of 98/5.
Broad’s over of 35 surpasses the previous record of 28 held by Brian Lara (vs Robin Peterson), George Bailey (vs James Anderson) and Keshav Maharaj (vs Joe Root). As a result, three English bowlers are the victims of the most runs ever conceded in an over.
Also, Bumrah’s hitting brought back memories of Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj struck 36 off the same bowler on an infamous night in the 2007 T20 World Cup.
