Cricket News: Twitter reactions as SRH don’t retain Rashid Khan | Fans react to Sunrisers Hyderabad not retaining Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan, whom many expected would be Sunrisers Hyderabad’s first retention, has not been retained by franchise. A mainstay of the first XI over the past few years, the world’s best T20 spinner will go to the auction with a very strong possibility that he will don new colours in IPL 2022.
According to reports, Rashid believed he should be SRH’s number one retention, which offers a greater financial value than second, third or fourth. The franchise disagreed, instead naming skipper Kane Williamson as their number one retention for 14 crore. Along with Rashid, the Sunrisers also notably released David Warner (predictably), Jonny Bairstow and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while retaining youngsters Umran Malik and Abdul Samad.
While SRH may still acquire the services of Afghan leg-spinner in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, they will no doubt have to fight off a number of other franchises who will be keen for his signature. Last year, Kyle Jamieson broke the record for the highest figure for an overseas player in IPL history, but Rashid could very well have that title by the time this auction is over.

Fans and pundits were left shocked and confused by SRH’s decision. Rashid Khan, along with Warner and Bairstow in particular, have formed the core of the team in recent years, and all three have contributed greatly to their consistency. Now, SRH will have to fight hard to put together a strong team for IPL 2022.
