Cricket News: Virat Kohli steps down as India T20 captain: Twitter reactions | Twitter reactions to Virat Kohli stepping down as India’s T20 captain

After rumours and speculation were rife on social media over the past few days, Virat Kohli confirmed he will be stepping down as India’s T20 captain after the T20 World Cup.

The skipper took to social media to announce the news. He pointed to his immense workload over the past 8-9 years and his desire to perform at optimum level for years to come as major factors in his decision.

Kohli also revealed he had discussions with coach Ravi Shastri and vice-captain Rohit Sharma about the decision. He will lead India at the T20 World Cup, where the men in blue will aim to win their second-ever title after their triumph in South Africa in 2007.

“I have been fortunate enough to not only represent India but also lead the Indian Cricket Team to my utmost capability,” Kohli’s statement read.

Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all 3 formats and captaining regularly for the last 5-6 years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian team in Test and ODI Cricket.”

“Of course, arriving at this decision took a lot of time. After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the leadership group, I’ve decided to step down as the T20 Captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October,” the statement also read.
