Shan Masood is ruled out of the second Test against West Indies due to a fractured left index finger. Masood suffered the injury in the first innings of the first Test at Brian Lara Cricket Academy. He was struck by a Jayden Seales delivery during his excellent century, and did not take the field on the fourth morning.
Masood bravely came out to bat in the second innings with Pakistan in trouble at 53/6 chasing 211. The first innings centurion was clearly hampered and will miss the match at Port-of-Spain, which begins on Sunday.

Masood is also in doubt for the first Test against England which begins on August 19. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) says his participation in that series depends on his rehabilitation.
“[Masood’s] availability for the first England Test at Leeds which starts on 19 August will depend on his recovery and clinical progress,” said the PCB in a statement, as quoted by Cricinfo.
With regards to Masood’s replacement, Pakistan are likely to choose between Abdullah Shafique and Saud Shakeel. Awais Zafar is another option.
Pakistan are looking to arrest an awful run in away Tests. Their 90-run defeat in the opening match was their eighth consecutive Test defeat away from home, dating back to 2023 where they won in Sri Lanka.
