India’s star batter Shreyas Iyer, who is leading the India A team against Australia A in a two-match series in Lucknow, will miss the second unofficial Test.

The team has not yet called for a replacement in the squad. As per the reports, Iyer is in contention for a middle-order berth in the upcoming two-Test series against West Indies. The series starts from October 2nd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, another report claims Iyer will miss the match due to personal reasons.

Shreyas Iyer to miss second four-day match for India A against Australia A

In Iyer’s absence, Dhruv Jurel is most likely to lead the team, “Yes, Shreyas is taking a break and has returned to Mumbai. He has informed the selectors that he won’t be able to play in the second four-day match against Australia A. However, he remains in the fray for a spot in the middle-order when the selectors meet to pick the squad for the West Indies series,” a source told the media, as reported by Times of India.

Shreyas Iyer’s stay at the crease in the first match was short-lived, as he managed just eight runs off 13 balls before being trapped lbw by Australian off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli. It was a call that many at the ground deemed harsh, with the ball seemingly drifting past leg stump.

On the Australian side, skipper Nathan McSweeney, still on the edges of national selection, will be keen to find form with the Ashes looming. The second unofficial Test between India A and Australia A will get underway at 9:30 AM IST on Tuesday, September 23, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Despite earlier assurances from the host broadcaster, the red-ball series will not have live telecast or streaming in India.
