Cricket News: Will Zimbabwe qualify for the 2022 T20 World Cup? Blessing Muzarabani is confident | Zimbabwe to host T20 World Cup Qualifiers
Blessing Muzarabani has asserted that Zimbabwe is in a good place to qualify for the T20 World Cup that will take place in Australia later on this year. The team will be battling against seven other nations to grab one of the top two spots in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier B.
Zimbabwe could not make it to ODI World Cup 2019 in England after suffering heartbreak in the Qualifiers in 2018. Also, they didn’t compete in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman last year. However, Muzarabani realises that they have come within touching distance of the global summit this time around and is eager to ensure that Zimbabwe rubs shoulders against the best in the business Down Under.
“It has been really tough for us. I’m happy with the team right now because the guys are really working hard in the nets and hopefully, we will execute our plan. I’m happy that we are getting these opportunities,” the pacer was quoted in a report by NDTV.
He added, “I am just looking forward to going out there and just express ourselves. I’m sure we’re going to enjoy it and try and win every game.”
Zimbabwe will host and lock horns against the United States of America (USA), Singapore and Jersey in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier B that will be held from 11th July-17th July. Playoffs will follow the group stage matches and the eventual finalists will directly qualify for the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Muzarabani is banking on the home advantage that the Chevrons will avail to put up a promising performance in the forthcoming tournament.
“It’s going to be a good opportunity to go out there and play. We just need to win the game, that’s the first thing, and hopefully, we will play well. We are going to make the crowd happy and our families happy. That’s our aim. We want to make our families proud; we want to make the supporters proud,” the 25-year-old opened up on Zimbabwe’s prospects in the qualifiers.
Muzarabani also seems upbeat about the newfound youthful exuberance and talent in the camp. He indicated that the coming competition gives them a chance to embark into a new era. The pacer also pointed at the duo of Wesley Madherve and Tadiwanashe Marunmani as players with potential to bring about good times for the Zimbabwean cricket team.
“The future is looking bright but right now this is all about this tournament,” Muzarabani signed off.
