Whether Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) play their home games at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2026 remains to be seen. According to a Cricbuzz report, the Government of Karnataka have given the green light for matches to be played at the ground, but it is not a done deal yet as of February 22.
Works are currently being undertaken by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) at the stadium. RCB have reportedly requested an unconditional clearance rather than conditional approval following the tragic events at the IPL title celebrations on June 4 last year.
RCB not certain to play home games at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2026
“At present, extensive infrastructure and safety enhancement works are underway at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in line with the recommendations of the Expert Committee and other statutory authorities,” said a top KSCA official, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“Several spectator gates and access points are currently being dismantled and widened, along with other critical improvement works.
“The KSCA has got the government permission to host the IPL matches. However, all the works to be undertaken and completed are under progress and will be completed as per schedule.”
The works are expected to be completed by the end of February. As a backup, RCB are looking at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium at Chhattisgarh as potential option to host matches.
The 2026 IPL season is set to begin on March 26. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to release the schedule for the tournament.
It is believed the reason is twofold. The first is the BCCI usually draws up the schedule around the Assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The second is whether the M Chinnaswamy Stadium will be ready.
England’s Super Eights campaign began in difficult fashion, with Jos Buttler in particular struggling for any rhythm against Sri Lanka. Buttler, one of England’s greatest in white-ball cricket, looked very scratchy for his 14-ball seven, extending his poor run of form in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Buttler did not look fluent at all. He was beaten on the drive on multiple occasions while scuffing a number of other shots, with foot movement almost non-existent. Facing his 14th delivery, Buttler put himself out of his misery attempting a reverse sweep off Dunith Wellalage, and was trapped LBW.
Fans fear retirement is near for Jos Buttler after a tough 7 (14) against Sri Lanka
The opener cut a forlorn figure in the dugout throughout England’s innings. He has scored just 60 runs in five knocks in the tournament at a strike rate of 113.20.
47 of those runs came in his first two innings against Nepal and West Indies, with scores of 3 (4), 3 (4) and 7 (14) against Scotland, Italy and Sri Lanka respectively since.
Buttler has had a fabulous career, including leading England to the 2022 T20 World Cup title in Australia. However, some fans believe the end is near.
“That dismissal has probably done England and Jos Buttler a favour, think he might be on his way out, that was just sad to watch,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).
“I mean if I was Sri Lankan, I wouldn’t have appealed for that Buttler wicket. Ugly. He looks a bit cooked,” wrote another.
I really hope it’s not time for Jos Buttler to hang up the shoulder wiggle
England has to think about pushing jacks at the top of the order , if they want to maximise their heavy batting line up. Buttler looks out of touch and his feet is not moving anywhere. https://t.co/toyMR1hjed
Only Phil Salt (62 off 40 balls) managed to produce anything of substance as England struggled for the most part. Some late hitting from Will Jacks helped take England to 146 – a score that gives them a fighting chance on a slowish pitch.
Is today’s blockbuster a preview of the final? Possibly. India and South Africa, two of the tournament favourites, go head-to-head in a high-profile, high-stakes Super Eights clash in Ahmedabad where over 100,000 fans are set to be in attendance.
Both teams are unbeaten in this World Cup. However, there is room for improvement. South Africa were strong against Canada, UAE and New Zealand in particular, but unforced errors against Afghanistan is a reminder of what to avoid in pressure games. India, despite their strong form, have also had their shaky moments with the bat, including Abhishek Sharma’s incredible run of three consecutive ducks and the success of offspinners against this left-hander heavy lineup.
So, who will hold their nerve best on this big occasion? Ahmedabad is a high-scoring ground, so is batting first the way to go? There are a number of questions and head-to-head battles to keep an eye on, and it promises to be a fascinating contest between two nations whose rivalry continues to gather momentum.
South Africa could have a choice between Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, as well as George Linde and Corbin Bosch.
South Africa: 1. Aiden Markram (c), 2. Quinton de Kock (wk), 3. Ryan Rickelton, 4. Dewald Brevis, 5. Tristan Stubbs, 6. David Miller, 7. Marco Jansen, 8. Corbin Bosch, 9. Keshav Maharaj, 10. Kagiso Rabada/Anrich Nortje, 11. Lungi Ngidi
Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad Pitch Report and Weather
Expect another excellent batting track in Ahmedabad. The average first innings score here in this World Cup is 192, with the team batting first winning three times, including South Africa’s double Super Over win over Afghanistan.
In T20Is at Ahmedabad this year, pace bowlers have taken 33 wickets at an average of 27.70 and economy of 9.47. Spinners have taken 15 wickets at a higher average of 36.07 and slightly lower economy of 9.02.
A clear and warm evening is forecast with no chance of rain.

Corbin Bosch will contribute overs and can strike a few blows down the order.

The Super Eights stage kicks off with New Zealand taking on Pakistan in a highly anticipated clash at the spin-friendly R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Both teams did what was required against Associate nations in the group stage, but performances against Full Member nations means there is room for improvement.
Pakistan crept past the Netherlands, before comfortable wins against USA and Namibia. However, that heavy loss against India is the kind of performance this team must avoid in these big games. Sahibzada Farhan’s hundred against Namibia is a big positive, and if Saim Ayub can fire, Pakistan can go to another level. Also, a lot rests on the spin attack on this ground.
For New Zealand, adjusting to the conditions is the biggest challenge as they played their group games at batting-friendly Chennai and Ahmedabad. The top order breezed past the inexperienced teams, but there are question marks about the potency of the bowling attack as UAE and Canada struck 170+ totals against the Black Caps. However, they have plenty of quality and experience to get the job done here.
In a group also featuring Sri Lanka and England, there is no room for error for these two teams today.
T20 World Cup 2026 41st Match: NZ vs PAK Possible Playing XIs
Lockie Ferguson missed the Canada match due to the birth of his child. It’ll be interesting to see where the Black Caps fit Ferguson in the XI especially if Ish Sodhi comes in.
“At this stage, we won’t be replacing Lockie in the squad as the plan would be for him to return for the Super Eight phase of the tournament,” said coach Rob Walter, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
New Zealand: 1. Tim Seifert (wk), 2. Finn Allen, 3. Rachin Ravindra, 4. Glenn Phillips, 5. Mark Chapman, 6. Daryl Mitchell, 7. Mitchell Santner (c), 8. Jimmy Neesham, 9. Matt Henry, 10. Ish Sodhi, 11. Jacob Duffy/Lockie Ferguson
Pakistan played Faheem Ashraf at number nine against Namibia. Such a tactic can backfire against more experienced opposition. According to ESPNcricinfo, Abrar Ahmed is expected to return to the XI.
Pakistan: 1. Sahibzada Farhan, 2. Saim Ayub, 3. Salman Ali Agha (c), 4. Babar Azam, 5. Khawaja Nafay, 6. Shadab Khan, 7. Usman Khan (wk) 8. Mohammad Nawaz/Faheem Ashraf, 9. Salman Mirza, 10. Usman Tariq, 11. Abrar Ahmed
R. Premadasa Stadium Colombo Pitch Report and Weather
The average first innings score in five matches at R. Premadasa in this World Cup is 173.4. Teams batting first won four of the five matches (two out of two in night games), with Zimbabwe’s chase against Sri Lanka the only time a team has won batting second.
There is the threat of rain in this game. However, AccuWeather’s hourly forecast predicts cloudy conditions during the match hours after rain in the afternoon.
Fantasy Cricket Tips for NZ vs PAK: Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Top wicketkeeper picks:
Tim Seifert is New Zealand’s top scorer in this tournament (173). He is averaging 57.66 with a strike rate of 167.96. Against Pakistan, Seifert has a strong record: 19 inns, 579 runs, avg. 36.18, SR 153.98.
Finn Allen has slammed 510 runs against Pakistan at an average of 39.23 and incredible strike rate of 190.29. Since the start of 2025, Allen has smashed 409 T20 runs against spin at a strike rate of 206.6.
Key batter picks:
Sahibzada Farhan is the leading run-scorer in this T20 World Cup (220). He has a century and half-century in four matches.
Rachin Ravindra found some form against Canada (59*), but can he translate that into runs against Pakistan? Ravindra can also be called to bowl a few overs in these conditions.
Salman Agha is having a quiet tournament, but he can fire at number three. Since the start of 2025, Salman has scored 346 T20 runs in this position at an average of 31.5 and strike rate of 162.4.
Top all-rounder picks:
Saim Ayub averages just 9.46 with the bat in multi-nation T20 tournaments. There is no better time than now to get going with the bat. Also, Saim’s exploits with the ball (3/25 on this ground against India) makes him an attractive fantasy pick.
Glenn Phillips is in fantastic form. He is striking at 185.93 in this World Cup and can accumulate fantasy points with the ball and in the field.
Shadab Khan has accumulated the most 2026 T20 World Cup Dream11 points (371) of any all-rounder in this match. He hit 36* (22) after early struggles against Namibia and then took 3/19.
Key bowler picks:
Abrar Ahmed has taken seven wickets in five innings against New Zealand at an average of 20.71 and strike rate of 14.71.
Matt Henry against Pakistan’s top order promises to be a fascinating battle. He has dismissed Saim Ayub once in 15 balls (25 runs) and Salman Agha twice in 24 balls (28 runs).
Usman Tariq will test the Black Caps with his variations. He has eight wickets in three matches this tournament at an average of 8.37 and strike rate of 8.62.
Other Players to Consider for your Fantasy Cricket Teams
Mark Chapman is selected in 22.96% of Dream11 teams. Pakistan is his favourite opponent. He has scored 663 runs against them at an average of 41.43 and strike rate of 161.70 against them.
Daryl Mitchell is an important cog for New Zealand in the middle. He is an excellent player of spin as well. In 15 innings against Pakistan, Mitchell has scored 371 runs at an average of 30.91 and strike rate of 145.49.
Jacob Duffy has an excellent T20I record against Pakistan: 9 inns, 18 wickets, avg. 12.77, SR 10.55.
Mitchell Santner can be a threat in these conditions. He has a modest record against Pakistan (14 wickets in 15 innings, SR 23.14), but he can get the ball turning in Colombo.
Other Stats and Important Matchups
Head-to-head: Matches 49, Pakistan 24, New Zealand 23, N/R 2.
Expect Pakistan to use spin early. Tim Seifert has been dismissed four times by spin in all T20s this year at an average of 23 and strike rate of 124.3.
Shadab Khan vs Daryl Mitchell in all T20s: 45 balls, 66 runs, one wicket.
Matt Henry vs Saim Ayub in T20s: 15 balls, 25 runs, one wicket.
Matt Henry vs Salman Agha in T20s: 24 balls, 28 runs, two wickets.
Matt Henry vs Babar Azam in T20s: 31 balls, 46 runs, no wickets.
Jacob Duffy vs Saim Ayub in T20s: 16 balls, 33 runs, no wickets.
Jacob Duffy vs Salman Agha in T20s: 23 balls, 34 runs, one wicket.

When looking at the schedule, most would have assumed this game would be Australia’s final match before they travel to India for the Super Eights. Instead, it’s their last game of the tournament full stop.
Australia have deservedly been eliminated following a poor campaign where the coach and selectors have clearly misread Sri Lankan conditions. Also, their thin bowling attack has come back to bite. Now, it’s only a matter of pride before the trip back home where further introspection is required.
On paper, Mitch Marsh’s team should be too good for Oman, but cricket is a funny game. Captain Jatinder Singh pulled no punches in the build up to this match, claiming “Australia is not doing well at the moment, it is the best time to crush them.”
Oman have been beaten resoundingly in all three of their matches, so victory here would be one of the great shocks even considering Australia’s struggles. They have a net run rate of -4.546 and need a big lift if they are to compete here.
T20 World Cup 2026 40th Match: AUS vs OMN Possible Playing XIs
According to ESPNcricinfo, Matt Renshaw, who was harshly dropped against Sri Lanka, is likely to be picked in the XI. Steve Smith is unlikely to play and it could be a choice between Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green for the final spot.
Australia: 1. Mitchell Marsh (c), 2. Travis Head, 3. Josh Inglis (wk), 4. Tim David, 5. Matt Renshaw, 6. Marcus Stoinis, 7. Glenn Maxwell/Cameron Green, 8. Xavier Bartlett/Ben Dwarshuis, 9. Nathan Ellis, 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Matt Kuhnemann
Oman: 1. Jatinder Singh (c), 2. Aamir Kaleem, 3. Hammad Mirza, 4. Wasim Ali/Asish Odedara, 5. Mohammad Nadeem, 6. Jiten Ramanandi, 7. Vinayak Shukla (wk), 8. Sufyan Mehmood, 9. Nadeem Khan, 10. Shah Faisal, 11. Shakeel Ahmed
Pallekele International Cricket Stadium Pitch Report and Weather
Batting conditions have been excellent so far at Pallekele. Sri Lanka smashed 225/5 against Oman before they chased 184 against Australia with ease. Also, Mitch Marsh and Travis Head raced to 104/0 off 8.2 overs against the co-hosts. Expect another good batting pitch here.
There is a chance of thunderstorms during the game. The team who wins the toss will likely bowl first.
Fantasy Cricket Tips for AUS vs OMN: Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Top wicketkeeper picks:
Josh Inglis bats in the top four and can gain fantasy points from wicketkeeping as well. Inglis has made a few starts in this World Cup, scoring 72 runs at a strike rate of 167.44.
Key batter picks:
Mitchell Marsh is a strong Dream11 C/VC option against a struggling Oman attack. Marsh smashed 54 at a strike rate of 200 against Sri Lanka on this ground.
Travis Head is also an excellent Dream11 C/VC option. He will go hard from the start and throw caution to the wind. If it comes off, Head can make a significant score at a fast rate.
Top allrounder picks:
Marcus Stoinis (67* off 36 and 3/19) won player of the match against Oman in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Also, Stoinis has taken three of Australia’s last four wickets in this tournament.
Aamir Kaleem is fresh off a strong all-round performance against Ireland (1/29 and 50). He opens the batting and will provide a few overs.
Key bowler picks:
Adam Zampa has gone wicketless in his last two games, but a struggling Oman batting lineup represents a good opportunity to get back in the wickets.
Nathan Ellis will test Oman with his variations. He bowls the crunch overs and can be backed to take wickets in this match.
Other Players to Consider for your Fantasy Cricket Teams
Sufyan Mehmood is conceding 11.88 per over but he offers good value from a fantasy perspective among Oman players as he can also contribute with the bat.
Glenn Maxwell has not got going, but he comes up against an attack that he leaked runs in this World Cup. Also, this could potentially be Maxwell’s last international match.
Oman have lost seven wickets in the powerplay in this tournament. Xavier Bartlett can add to that with his ability to swing the ball.
Shakeel Ahmed took three wickets in Oman’s last match against Ireland.

Afghanistan will meet Canada in the 39th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Both sides are already out of the Super 8 race, and are playing for pride. MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, will host this game on 39th February 2026 at 7 PM IST.
Afghanistan’s campaign this tournament has been disappointing. They lost to New Zealand by five wickets in their first game and then suffered a heartbreaking double Super Over loss to South Africa.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been in strong form, while Ibrahim Zadran scored a fifty in the last game. Azmatullah Omarzai and Darwish Rasooli have also shown glimpses of form, but they’ve lacked consistency.
Bowling-wise too, the likes of Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Mohammed Nabi have had a disappointing tournament. Azmatullah Omarzai (8 wickets), Rashid Khan, and Mujeeb ur Rahman (4 wickets each) have been the standouts.
Canada lost to New Zealand by eight wickets in their last game. Yuvraj Samra scored an excellent century (110 runs) which is a great sign in their quest for a win here. Dilpreet Bajwa, Navneet Dhaliwal, and Nicholas Kirton are the other key batters for Canada.
Dilon Heyliger and Saad Bin Zafar are the key bowlers. They’ll have to be at their best as a side if they are to defeat Afghanistan.
MA Chidambaram Stadium Chepauk Chennai Pitch Report and Weather
The pitch at Chepauk has been an excellent one for batting in the tournament so far. The average first innings score in the tournament so far is 184 runs. The hard wicket offers good bounce, and the batters can play their shots trusting the wicket. There hasn’t been any help off the deck for the spinners until now.
Teams are expected to prefer chasing if they win the toss as dew will be a factor in the latter half of this game.
A bright sunny day with the temperature being around 25 degrees Celsius at the start of the game. It will be very humid with 75% humidity.
Fantasy Cricket Tips for AFG vs CAN: Players to Watch/Key Stats
Top Wicket-Keeper Picks:
Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been in good form. He played an excellent innings against South Africa (84 runs) and has a total of 111 runs at an average of 37 and strike rate of 168.18. He will be a good C/VC option.
Key batter picks:
Ibrahim Zadran has 75 runs in three innings. He scored 53 in the last game and will be an important batter for Afghanistan at the top. Try him as C/VC in some of your teams.
Yuvraj Samra played a stylish knock of 110 runs in 65 deliveries in the last game. He likes to bat aggressively and take on the bowlers.
Top all-rounder picks:
Azmatullah Omarzai has been hitting boundaries and sixes for fun with the bat and has bowled well for his eight wickets at a strike rate of 8.8. He will contribute with both bat and ball, which makes him an ideal C/VC choice.
Harsh Thaker is a utility player for Canada. He can hit the ball batting at the middle order and is handy with the ball too. He has 86 runs at an average of 43, including a fifty.
Saad Bin Zafar is the lead spinner for Canada, and he can contribute with the bat too. He has four wickets in three games at a strike rate of 15 and an economy of 8.10.
Gulbadin Naib is batting at three and bowling 2-3 overs in every game for Afghanistan. He has looked out of touch with the bat, but he can score big on his day. Naib scored a fifty in the last game.
Key bowler picks:
Rashid Khan has four wickets in three matches so far. He’s a champion player and a proven match-winner, but his form in the last 8-10 months has gone down. But don’t doubt him, and he’s a must-pick for this match. Rashid will be an excellent C/VC choice too.
Mujeeb ur Rahman has also picked up four wickets so far. He can bowl in any phase of the game, and he can cause problems for the Canadian batting unit. Try him as C/VC in some of your teams.

Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will meet in the 38th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. It will be a party atmosphere as both sides have qualified for the Super 8 round. R. Premadasa Stadium will host this game on 19th February 2026 at 3 PM IST.
Sri Lanka has been in good form in the tournament so far. Their top-order batters, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, have played well, and the middle order has also stepped in when the team has needed them.
The Lions defeated Australia quite comfortably by eight wickets in their last game. Nissanka was outstanding, while the likes of Dunith Wellalage, Dushan Hemantha, and Kamindu Mendis have done well for Sri Lanka too. Maheesh Theekshana has picked up wickets consistently as well, and Sri Lanka will look to finish the group stage with a win.
Zimbabwe has two wins and one rain-abandoned game in three matches. They defeated Australia by 23 runs in their last second game, and a washed-out game against Ireland meant that they confirmed their place in the Super 8.

Brian Bennett (112 runs) has led the batting, but he’ll need support from the others. The likes of Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl must take responsibility going ahead in the tournament.

At the moment, Sri Lanka’s playing like a team, with their batters and bowlers complimenting each other quite well. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will depend on their pacers and top 4 to do the bulk of the job in this match.

India and Netherlands will go head-to-head in the 36th match of the 2026 T20 World Cup. Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, will host this game on 18th February 2026 at 7 PM IST.
India defeated Pakistan quite easily in their last game. Ishan Kishan (77 runs) was outstanding. Suryakumar Yadav (29 runs) also played well. Then the Indian bowlers took charge and restricted Pakistan to 114 runs. Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakaravarthy all picked up two wickets each.
The Indian team is in good form, but they still haven’t played at their full potential. Abhishek Sharma, who has made two ducks, needs to get into runs ahead of Super 8, while Hardik Pandya too needs to get going with the bat.
The Netherlands, meanwhile, lost their last game by a huge margin of 93 runs. Their only win in this tournament came against Namibia. Bas de Leede has been in terrific form for them, while Scott Edwards has also batted well. Their openers have failed to get going, while the middle order, apart from De Leede and Edwards, has struggled throughout the tournament.
The Dutch have a good bowling attack, but the batters will have to support them well if they are to defeat this Indian side.
Netherlands: 1. Max O’Dowd, 2. Michael Levitt, 3. Bas de Leede, 4. Colin Ackermann, 5. Scott Edwards (c & wk), 6. Zach Lion-Cachet, 7. Logan van Beek, 8. Aryan Dutt, 9. Roelof van der Merwe, 10. Kyle Klein, 11. Fred Klaasen
Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad Pitch Report and Weather
The venue has been a good one for batting in this tournament, and the spinners have had some help too. The average first-innings score here in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is 191 runs, and teams batting first have won two of the three matches played here. Spinners are expected to be in the game while the new ball moves around, especially under the lights, so the fast bowlers will be in for something as well.
It will be a bright sunny day with no chance of rain, and the temperature will be around 25 degrees Celsius at the start of the game.
Fantasy Cricket Tips for IND vs NED: Players to Watch/Key Stats
Top wicketkeeper Picks:
Ishan Kishan scored a crucial 77 runs in their last game and helped India win the match. Kishan has 158 runs in three games at an average of 52.66 at a strike rate of 197.50 with two fifties. Ishan will be an excellent C/VC choice.
Key batter picks:
Tilak Varma is batting at three for India. He played a scratchy knock in the last game, but he’ll still be a top fantasy pick. He can play all around the ground, and he’s a good player of spin. Try him as C/VC in some of your teams.
Suryakumar Yadav has 128 runs in three innings. He averages 40 (strike rate 140.65). He’s another player you wouldn’t want to miss out on in your fantasy teams. He showcased his class in the match against the USA.
It is hard to believe that Abhishek Sharma is yet to score his first runs in the tournament after two matches. He got out for a duck in the last game against Pakistan. This might be the game where Abhishek gets going.
Top all-rounder picks:
Hardik Pandya has 57 runs and four wickets in the tournament so far. He needs some consistency with the bat, but he’s in terrific form with the ball. Pandya will be an excellent captain choice.
Axar Patel has six wickets in three matches. He’s picking up wickets consistently and can bowl in any phase of the innings. He is a capable batter and can be promoted up the order the team requires.
Bas de Leede has been the best player for the Netherlands in the tournament. He has 125 runs at an average of 62.50 and has picked up five wickets to go with that. De Leede will be a must in your fantasy teams.
Key bowler picks:
Jasprit Bumrah was in excellent rhythm in the last game. He swung the new ball and was very sharp, especially in the powerplay. He can trouble the Dutch batters and will be a good C/VC option too.
Varun Chakaravarthy has six wickets in three games at a strike rate of 9. He will be a big threat to the Netherlands’ batters. Varun will fancy his chances in this game; try him as C/VC in some teams.
Kuldeep Yadav is another spinner who poses a big threat to the opposition in this game. Kuldeep played his first game of the tournament against Pakistan and picked up a wicket in the three overs he bowled.

Australia have officially been eliminated from the 2026 T20 World Cup in the group stage. A washout in the Ireland-Zimbabwe match means the Zimbabweans move to five points, putting the Australians out of the race for the Super Eights.
Australia’s match against Oman on Friday will be a dead rubber in what has been a tournament to forget. After a solid start against Ireland on February 11, Australia produced two insipid displays against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka to put themselves at the mercy of other results – or as it turned out, the weather.
Fans and former players have not held back in their criticism of the selectors and players. Ian Healy said “Australia had the wrong players” and Mark Waugh believes “the non-selection of Steve Smith in the squad originally is the most baffling non-selection I can remember for ages.”
The 2026 edition continues what has been a poor run of results in T20 World Cups. Australia underachieved in 2009, 2014 and 2016, while reaching the semi-final in 2007 and final in 2010.
2021 is the exception. However, they had the fortune of winning the toss in every game except one in a tournament dominated by chasing teams in dewy conditions under lights in the UAE. Since then, they disappointed again in 2022 (group stage) and 2024 (Super Eights).
Reactions: Rival fans rejoice as Australia are eliminated from the 2026 T20 World Cup
Rival fans are loving life as Australia have been bundled out from a group they were expected to qualify from. Zimbabwe fans are rejoicing. Here are some of the reactions to Australia’s elimination.
Zimbabwe through to the super 8s – fantastic achievement! Be interesting to see who Aus select for a match against Oman that will – or should – be a chastening experience. Lots of introspection coming.
No one should come and say Australia were undone because today’s game was a washout.
Zimbabwe won their games and were in a position to make the qualification in their own hands on the other hand Australia lost vs Zim and Lanka so they rightfully going home.
Not in my wildest dream I thought Australia will be packed in the group stage. That too with the squad they had… Understand they had injuries but still this squad should've at least made it to the super 8.
Zimbabwe is not qualifying to super 8 because luck but they are qualifying because of sheer brilliance by beating Australia who were competing with them for super 8, so don't be so shameful & call Zimbabwe lucky & demean their achievement.
Zimbabwe’s qualification to the Super Eights is a fabulous achievement. They did not qualify for the 2024 edition, and now less than two years later, will have the opportunity to go head-to-head with India, West Indies and South Africa in the next round.
“I will take you back to the sub-regional qualifiers, and I stood up to my troops and said we are in this situation because of ourselves, and only we can clear this mess,” said captain Sikandar Raza after the Ireland match was washed out.
“As much as we have achieved, it is just a tick in the box and not the whole box. There will be a small celebration, but we will then focus on the next game.”
Cricket Australia (CA) is considering playing the first match of the 2026/27 Big Bash League (BBL) in India. That is according to SEN Cricket’sTom Morris, who broke the news on Tuesday evening.
CA have the ambition to host the BBL season opener at Chennai’s M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. The move is believed to be part of CA’s privatisation plans for the league.
CA wish to hold BBL 2026/27 season opener in Chennai, India
According to Morris, “the bold ambition is part of a wider strategy to intertwine the lucrative Indian market with the BBL ahead of a near-certain sale for at least two of its eight franchises.
“SEN Cricket understands two senior Cricket Australia staffers travelled to India recently to investigate the possibility of a regular season BBL game being played, ideally in Chennai.”
CA CEO Todd Greenberg believes privatisation is the way forward. He is on record multiple times saying it’s vital for Australia not to fall behind.
“Change doesn’t happen in cricket without a lot of push and shove because it’s a traditional conservation approach to the sport, which is what’s beautiful about it. But geez, if you sit back and watch the world unfold around you, particularly at this moment and time, I think you’re going to get run over,” Greenberg said in a recent interview with The Grade Cricketer Podcast.
“So I’ve got this sort of concept that you want things to happen to you, or do you want them to happen with you? And my fear for us is if we aren’t in this discussion and we’re not debating the merits of bringing private capital in, you get run over in a small country like Australia.”
7 Cricket report that for the BBL match to go ahead in India, there would need to be various levels of approval.
“For it to get over the line approval would need to be given from various stakeholders, including the BCCI,” read the post on X (formerly Twitter).
Cricket Australia is considering starting BBL16 … in India 🤔
For it to get over the line approval would need to be given from various stakeholders, including the BCCI.
With privatisation, however, comes key questions for Australia. What will it mean for the Test summer, so loved and adored by Australian cricket fans? Also, how will potential team name changes be received in a league that has been around for 15 years?
