In this article, we explore some of the most promising and exciting emerging talents in the cricketing world.

1. Rachin Ravindra – New Zealand

23-year-old Rachin Ravindra made a huge impression in the 2023 World Cup opener. His 123* (96), along with Devon Conway’s 153*, made a mockery of England’s 282 to get New Zealand off to a winning start.

Ravindra, who also bowls handy left-arm spin, was born into a cricket-loving family. Born to Indian parents in Wellington, New Zealand, “Rachin” is portmanteau of the first names of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

2. Bas de Leede – Netherlands

Netherlands’ Bas de Leede is one of the world’s finest all-round prospects. The talented 23-year-old was crucial to his nation’s qualification to the 2023 World Cup, overcoming all odds to reach the showpiece tournament.

He is so good with bat and ball that he’d make a playing XI based on either discipline. As of October 2023, de Leede has 57 wickets and nearly 1,500 runs in international cricket, with more to come. Also, we can expect T20 franchises around the world to pick up de Leede given the all-round value he provides.

3. Phoebe Litchfield – Australia

Australia’s women’s team has dominated for many years. As a result, they have inspired generation after generation to take up cricket. One such talented up-and-coming cricketer is 20-year-old Phoebe Litchfield, who has made a strong start to international cricket.

In her first 11 One Day Internationals (ODIs), Litchfield struck 344 runs at an average of nearly 50. This included two fifties and a century, and with her technique and temperament, many more are on the way.

4. Jake Fraser-McGurk – Australia

Australia has a knack for producing aggressive and innovative cricketers, and Jake Fraser-McGurk is no exception. The 21-year-old recently made headlines after hitting the fastest List A century of all time, thumping a 29-ball century for South Australia against Tasmania. He beat the previous best of 31 balls set by the great AB de Villiers.

5. Shafali Verma – India

The rise of women’s cricket has been nothing short of remarkable, and Shafali Verma exemplifies this trend. At just 17 years old, she has made a name for herself as a fearless and aggressive opening batswoman. Her explosive stroke play and natural talent have the cricketing world excited about the future of women’s cricket.

6. Brandon McMullen – Scotland

Scotland’s Brandon McMullen introduced himself to wider audiences in the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifier tournament. He was excellent with bat and ball, so much so that after 15 ODIs, he averages 49.09 with the bat and 19.95 with the ball. One hopes that Scotland get more opportunities in the coming years as the 24-year-old is an all-rounder to keep an eye on.

7. Rehan Ahmed – England

The late, great Shane Warne predicted big things for Rehan Ahmed after seeing him bowl when 13 years of age. At just 18, he took a five-wicket haul on Test debut, making an immediate impression. He has also been a solid performer in T20 cricket, outlining his excellent potential across formats.

8. Dewald Brevis – South Africa

Dewald Brevis, nicknamed “baby AB”, has a striking resemblance to AB de Villiers. He is considered to be one of the great up-and-coming talents after lighting up the U19 World Cup with his incredible strokeplay, and he has already featured in a number of prestigious T20 leagues around the world, including the Indian Premier League.

To sum up, cricket is constantly changing and young players from all over the world are becoming the stars of the future. These players bring with them the promise of innovation, skill, and excitement, and they are set to redefine the sport. If you’re a cricket fan, you’ll want to keep an eye on these youngsters as they take the game to the next level.

India and Bangladesh will lock horns in the 17th match of the World Cup 2023 in Pune. Both teams have had contrasting campaigns so far. India have won all three games and are the table toppers, whereas Bangladesh are in the seventh position with only one win in three matches.

India registered a clinical victory against Pakistan by seven wickets in the last game. Bowling first, they restricted Pakistan to a mere 191, with all the bowlers, barring Shardul Thakur, scalping two wickets. In the batting innings, Rohit Sharma top scored 86 runs, whereas Shreyas Iyer’s vital 53 ensured a victory without any hiccups.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh lost their last game by eight wickets against New Zealand in Chennai. Batting first, they could assemble only 245 runs, with Mushfiqur Rahim (66) and Shakib Al Hasan (40) only standing tall with the willow. Only Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan could snare a wicket each, as the Bangladeshi bowlers looked toothless.

Can Bangladesh stop India’s progress and get their campaign on track? Here is our preview plus Dream11 cricket fantasy tips for the clash.

Pakistan players affected with illness – reports

Cricket News: Which Pakistan players are affected from illness? | Several Pakistan players reportedly battling viral bacterial infection

Just days out from their crucial World Cup game against Australia, a number of Pakistan players have reportedly been struck down by a viral bacterial infection. The illness has resulted in the cancellation of their practice session on Tuesday, October 17, which has been moved to Wednesday 2pm Indian time.

According to SAMAA TV journalist Qadir Khawaja, four players have fallen sick in recent days. Legspinner Usama Mir is said to have been quite ill over a four-to-five day period, but has now recovered. Seamer Zaman Khan has also reportedly recovered.

Which Pakistan players are currently affected by illness?

Crucial left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is has picked up a viral infection after reaching Bengaluru, where the match against Australia will be played. According to Khawaja, Shaheen has been receiving antibiotic drops to aid his recovery.

Also, opener Abdullah Shafique, who has made an excellent start to his World Cup campaign, has been down with fever.

Both players will be monitored ahead of the Australia clash, where Pakistan need to be at their best in the quest for an important victory. Babar Azam’s team have won two and lost one match so far in the 2023 World Cup, but the loss against India can be damaging to confidence.

With tougher matches still ahead, and Australia looking to recover after a poor start to their campaign, Pakistan need to win to keep belief high after a difficult outing against India last Saturday.

Australia possible playing XI for World Cup match vs Pakistan: Will Travis Head play?

Cricket News: Australia possible playing XI for World Cup match vs Pakistan: Will Travis Head play? | Australia’s possible playing XI vs Pakistan

Australia got their 2023 World Cup campaign up and running with a crucial five-wicket victory against Sri Lanka at Lucknow on Monday. In a must-win game, captain Pat Cummins and lead spinner Adam Zampa stood up with the ball, followed by key contributions with the bat from the likes of Josh Inglis, Mitch Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne.

Next up is another crucial match, this time against Pakistan at Bengaluru. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium is traditionally a batting paradise, which comes as a welcome change for the Australian batting lineup who have been put under pressure in their first three games. However, the Pakistani attack is looking to bounce back after their own shaky start, and their batting can fire on such pitches as was the case in their record chase against Sri Lanka earlier in this tournament.

Australia’s Possible Playing XI vs Pakistan: 1. Mitchell Marsh, 2. David Warner, 3. Steve Smith, 4. Marnus Labuschagne, 5. Josh Inglis (wk), 6. Glenn Maxwell, 7. Marcus Stoinis, 8. Mitchell Starc, 9. Pat Cummins (c), 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Josh Hazlewood

Travis Head to meet up with squad, but won’t feature against Pakistan

In good news for Australia, star opener Travis Head has recovered quicker than expected from his fractured hand suffered in the recent tour of South Africa. Head has been batting in the nets and has reportedly left Australia to meet with the squad.

However, given his arrival will be quite close to the match against Pakistan, the Netherlands match the following Monday (23 October) is a much more realistic proposition for a return.

“It’s coming along well, and probably better than we hoped,” Head said to cricket.com.au regarding his injury. “When we decided not to go with surgery, which would have meant a 10-week recovery, we were told it would be minimum six weeks with the splint before we could look at playing again.

“Going by that plan, the Netherlands game will be just under six weeks from impact which is a pretty aggressive date so everything would have to go perfectly from here to make that deadline. But we’ll just see how it progresses over the next few days and I’m excited by the prospect of joining the boys over there later in the week.”

In terms of Australia’s playing XI, they are likely to go in with the same team as the Sri Lanka game provided Adam Zampa is fit. The legspinner has been battling back spasms, and was bowling through some pain during his man-of-the-match performance of 4/47 against the Lions at Lucknow.

High on the agenda will be runs for Steve Smith, who is yet to fire so far in this World Cup. The star batsman has excellent numbers against Pakistan, with 511 runs at an average of 51.10 in 11 ODIs.

NZ vs AFG Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: ODI World Cup 2023 Match 16 | NZ vs AFG Dream11 Prediction Today | Chennai Pitch Report

While New Zealand vs Afghanistan might look like a dull contest on paper, the game won’t be a one-sided affair by any means. Several factors will make this encounter fascinating, with some good quality cricket promised at spin-friendly Chennai.

New Zealand are flying high on the back of their unbeaten run in the tournament, with their latest victory coming against Bangladesh. Bowling first, the Kiwis restricted the Bangla Tigers to a mere 245, thanks to Lockie Ferguson’s three-fer and two wickets each for the other two pacers – Trent Boult and Daryl Mitchell. While batting, New Zealand were taken home by Kane Williamson (78) and Daryl Mitchell (89), with Devon Conway (45) also making useful contributions.

Afghanistan scripted history by defeating the World Champions, England, in Delhi a couple of days ago. Rahmanullah Gurbaz batted brilliantly for his 80, whereas Ikram Alikhil (58) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (28) took them to a fighting total. While bowling, Mujeeb Ur Rahman starred again with a three-wicket haul, whereas Rashid Khan also dismissed three batters to hand Afghanistan only their second, albeit massive, World Cup victory.

NZ vs AFG Dream11 Prediction World Cup: Fantasy tips

New Zealand:

  • Devon Conway will be crucial for New Zealand to counter the quality Afghani spinners at a venue where he has played so much. He has 229 runs at a strike rate of 104.09 in three innings this World Cup.
  • Rachin Ravindra will contribute with both bat and ball in the game. He has 183 runs at an average of 91.50 and a strike rate of 114.38 in three innings this World Cup. Ravindra also has two wickets to his name.
  • Daryl Mitchell played a fine knock of 89* in the previous game. Mitchell will be crucial for New Zealand at No. 4, as he handles spin well. He can also bowl a few handy overs.
  • Mitchell Santner has been in terrific form this World Cup. He has eight wickets at 15.88 runs apiece in three games so far. He can be a wizard in Chennai if the conditions suit him.
  • Matt Henry has been among New Zealand’s best bowlers in the World Cup 2023. He has been immaculate with his lines and length, troubling the batters consistently. Henry has eight wickets at 18.25 runs apiece, dismissing a batter every 21.38 balls this tournament.
  • Trent Boult can wreak havoc against Afghanistan, especially with the new ball. There has been some swing on offer at every venue this World Cup, and Boult can get past the Afghanistan batting unit, which has blown hot and cold.

Afghanistan:

  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been Afghanistan’s best batter for a while now. He has 148 runs, averaging 49.33 and striking at 100.68 this World Cup. Gurbaz was instrumental in Afghanistan’s historic victory over England in the previous game.
  • Ibrahim Zadran hasn’t performed according to expectations in the tournament so far. He has 72 runs at a mere average of 24 in three innings. Zadran has to step up to cover the lacklustre batting performance of the middle order.
  • Azmatullah Omarzai will contribute to all the departments. He has 103 runs at an average of 34.33 so far. Omarzai has also taken a solitary wicket.
  • Rashid Khan has proved his worth time and again this World Cup. He has 5 wickets at 28.40 runs apiece. Rashid also has 48 runs, and his batting expertise is not hidden.
  • Mujeeb Ur Rahman will again have to be on the money with the ball. He won the Man of the Match award for his brilliant spell of 3/51 in the last game. Mujeeb will again have to do the heavy lifting on a slow Chennai track.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head in ODIs: Played 2, New Zealand 2, Afghanistan 0.
  • Daryl Mitchell in ODIs in 2023: 789 runs, 49.31 avg, 96.45 SR, 2 fifties & 3 centuries.
  • Ibrahim Zadran has the most runs (550) for Afghanistan in ODIs this year. He averages 42.31 and strikes at 80.41 in 14 ODIs in 2023.
  • Afghanistan are the only team to strike at less than 100 in the slog overs among the World Cup teams this year. They have a meagre strike rate of 98.02 in this phase.
  • Mitchell Santner needs one more wicket to complete 100 ODI dismissals.

MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Pitch Report and Weather

The pitches have been unpredictable throughout this World Cup. The average first innings score in Chennai has been 224, with the teams batting first, winning 17 of 36 games. Expect another decent batting track, with the spinners also having a say at some point in the match.

A temperature of around 32°C, with humid conditions, is forecast.

SA vs NED Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: ODI World Cup 2023 Match 15

SA vs NED Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: ODI World Cup 2023 Match 15 | SA vs NED Dream11 Prediction Today | Dharamsala Pitch Report

South Africa are on fire. They have started this tournament in magnificent fashion, smashing the highest-ever World Cup score and then smashing Australia. Next up is the Netherlands, and while the Proteas are undoubted favourites, they need not forget Adelaide in last year’s T20 World Cup.

So, any South African complacency can surely be written off. The top order, spearheaded by Quinton de Kock, will be seeking to set another strong platform for their excellent middle order. The bowlers, who were relentless and outstanding against Australia, will be after a repeat in the quest to move to the top of the 2023 World Cup standings.

Indeed, the Dutch face a tough test but they can take heart in their first two performances. They were in the game for long periods against Pakistan, before each of their top seven made a double-figure score in the defeat to New Zealand. Early wickets in what could be helpful conditions for pace bowlers can create a sense of deja vu for the Proteas, and who knows what can happen from there.

Match Details

  • Date: October 17, 2023.
  • Location: Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.
  • Time: 2:00pm (India), 10:30am (South Africa & Netherlands).

ODI World Cup 2023 Match 15: SA vs NED Possible Playing XIs

South Africa may bring back Gerald Coetzee for Tabraiz Shamsi given the conditions.

South Africa: 1. Quinton de Kock (wk), 2. Temba Bavuma (c), 3. Rassie van der Dussen, 4. Aiden Markram, 5. Heinrich Klaasen, 6. David Miller, 7. Marco Jansen, 8. Gerald Coetzee/Tabraiz Shamsi, 9. Kagiso Rabada, 10. Keshav Maharaj, 11. Lungi Ngidi

Netherlands may stick with the same lineup.

Netherlands: 1. Vikramjit Singh, 2. Max O’Dowd, 3. Colin Ackermann, 4. Bas de Leede, 5. Teja Nidamanuru, 6. Scott Edwards (c & wk), 7. Sybrand Engelbrecht, 8. Roelof can der Merwe, 9. Ryan Klein, 10. Aryan Dutt, 11. Paul van Meekeren

SA vs NED Dream11 Prediction: Fantasy Tips

South Africa:

  • Quinton de Kock has struck two centuries in two matches in this World Cup.
  • Temba Bavuma will be seeking his first big knock of this tournament. The Proteas’ captain has been excellent in ODIs this year, with 680 runs at an average of 68.0 and strike rate of 101.2.
  • Aiden Markram is in rare form. South Africa’s number four has belted two centuries and two half-centuries in his past five ODIs, including the fastest-ever ton in World Cups against Sri Lanka.
  • Markram belted 175 and 51 against the Dutch earlier this year. He also took three wickets in that two-match series.
  • David Miller smashed 91 (61) against the Netherlands in the same game where Markram hit 175. Since the start of 2021, Miller has hit 1,075 runs at an average of 51.2 and strike rate of 89.7 in ODIs.
  • Marco Jansen should enjoy conditions at Dharamsala. He dismissed Vikramjit Singh in their meeting earlier this year. Expect Jansen to test the Dutch with his height and bounce.
  • Kagiso Rabada is South Africa’s leading wicket-taker so far in this World Cup with five. Rabada looked in excellent touch in helpful conditions under lights at Lucknow, where he took 3/33 against Australia.

Netherlands:

  • Vikramjit Singh makes regular starts in ODIs. In fact, 24 of his 27 innings have been double-figure scores, but has converted just 25% of those to a 50+ score. How will he fare today?
  • Bas de Leede is vital to the Netherlands’ hopes. Two games ago, he produced an excellent all-round display vs Pakistan (4/62 and 67). This year, de Leede has scored 370 runs (avg. 46.2, SR 98.7) and taken 20 wickets (avg. 23.6, econ. 5.91).
  • Can Scott Edwards deliver? Since the start of 2022, the Netherlands captain has scored 1,087 runs at an average of 43.5 and strike rate of 95.8 in ODIs.
  • Aryan Dutt has dismissed Quinton de Kock once in five balls in ODIs, without conceding a run.
  • Paul van Meekeren can be a factor in Dharamsala conditions. He has picked up three wickets in two matches so far in this World Cup, including with the short ball.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 7, South Africa 6, Netherlands 0, N/R 1.
  • Temba Bavuma struck 96 runs in two matches against the Netherlands earlier in 2023. This included a score of 90.
  • Tabraiz Shamsi took 3/25 in his previous ODI against the Netherlands.

Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala, Pitch Report and Weather

This will be the third game at Dharamsala in this World Cup, but the first day/night game. In the previous two matches, the Bangladesh seamers found some joy against Afghanistan and Reece Topley was outstanding against Bangladesh. Under lights and at altitude, the ball may nip around.

There is a chance of thunderstorms at around 2-3pm in Dharamsala. But, conditions should be fine after that. However, the concern is how the rain impacts the outfield, which has come under scrutiny so far in this World Cup.

Twitter reactions to Sri Lanka collapse vs Australia at Lucknow

Cricket News: Twitter reactions to Sri Lanka collapse vs Australia at Lucknow | Reactions to Sri Lanka losing 10/84 against Australia

Prior to a gusty wind storm, Sri Lanka were blown away in the middle overs by Australia to leave their World Cup campaign hanging by a thread. Sitting pretty at 125/0 and then 157/1, the Lions went on to be bowled out for just 209 in a disappointing end to a batting display that promised so much.

David Warner set the tone after Australia started off in flat fashion once again. The opener took two excellent catches in the deep which contributed to two of the first three wickets to fall. Also, in encouraging news for Australia, Pat Cummins was as accurate with the ball as he was in the field, and Adam Zampa found his rhythm, taking 4/47.

In contrast to their horror show against South Africa last weekend, the Australians were much sharper in the field, especially in the second-half of the innings. Cummins’ run out of Dunith Wellalage was the highlight, with other instances of excellent ground fielding to keep the pressure on the Sri Lankans. The Lions were unable to cope, with only Charith Asalanka (25*) reaching double figures apart from the two openers.

Australia, who didn’t reach 200 in either of their first two World Cup matches, need 210 to win to seal their first victory of the 2023 edition.

Reactions to Sri Lanka collapse of 52/9 in World Cup vs Australia

“From 125/0 to 209 all out. A collapse that even Pakistan would be proud of,” one fan tweeted. “They have just played Zampa into form,” said another.

Here are some reactions from Sri Lanka’s incredible collapse, where they lost 9/52.

There is not much to separate between Australia and Sri Lanka in this World Cup. Both teams have played two and lost both, whereas both nations have been clueless at times, and their tactics have also been questionable.

Australia are coming off an embarrassing defeat against South Africa in Lucknow. Bowling first, they conceded 311 runs, with most bowlers conceding plenty of runs, especially in the first 35 overs. While chasing, their top batters fell like a pack of cards, and while Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Starc did try to survive, they were fighting the lost battle.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka suffered a defeat that would trouble them. Batting first, they posted a whopping 344/9 – thanks to the marvellous tons from Kusal Mendis (122) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (108). However, the bowlers were wayward mostly, letting Pakistan chase down the highest-ever total in World Cup history.

Both teams have been absolutely abysmal with their performances. The good thing is one of the teams will certainly open its account in the tournament.

AUS vs SL Dream11 Prediction World Cup: Fantasy tips

Australia:

  • David Warner will have to fire from the top and provide a brisk start to the team. He has 779 runs at an average of 35.40 and a strike rate of 83.40 in 22 ODI innings against Sri Lanka. Warner has also amassed two fifties and three centuries.
  • Steven Smith has scores of 46 & 19 in two innings this World Cup. The team would expect more from him. Overall, Smith has 385 runs while averaging 38.50 and striking at 84.06 in 10 ODI innings against Sri Lanka.
  • Marnus Labuschagne has 537 runs at an average of 48.81 and a strike rate of 87.60 in 12 ODI innings this year. He also has two fifties and a century. Marnus has looked solid, but a big score has eluded him this World Cup.
  • Glenn Maxwell enjoys playing against Sri Lanka. He has 362 runs at a 40.22 average and a lofty 147.75 strike rate in 11 ODI innings against Sri Lanka. Maxwell also has five wickets against them.
  • Mitchell Starc has 27 wickets at an average of 18.88 and a strike rate of 25.18 in 14 ODI innings against Sri Lanka. He also has two four-wicket hauls against them.
  • Mitchell Starc has 3 wickets at 28 runs apiece in two games in World Cup 2023.

Sri Lanka:

  • Dunith Wellalage is an exciting talent. He can make inroads through the shaky Australian batting lineup if the pitch is on the slower side. Wellalage is also a capable lower-order batter.
  • Maheesh Theekshana will be Sri Lanka’s best bet in the bowling department. He has 4 wickets at an average of 49.50 against Australia. However, Theekshana is a much better bowler than these numbers suggest.

England, who got their campaign back on track with a big win over Bangladesh, are after a similar result against winless Afghanistan.

The Afghans showed plenty of promise with the bat against India on this ground. Such a performance is cause for confidence, but how they keep a powerful England batting lineup as quiet as possible will be the biggest challenge in what has been excellent batting conditions at Delhi so far in this World Cup.

For England, Dawid Malan’s form and Reece Topley’s inclusion gives ths team an added dimension. Malan can keep things ticking and enable the others to go big in equal measure, while Topley gives England the wicket-taking threat they sorely missed in their tournament opener against New Zealand.

So, Afghanistan have their work cut out. The talent is there, but they need their big guns to deliver large. In a World Cup that needs an upset, will this be the game that delivers it?

ENG vs AFG Dream11 Prediction: Fantasy Tips

England:

  • Dawid Malan, who slammed 140 against Bangladesh, averages 63.15 in 23 ODIs. This includes 11 fifty-plus scores (five fifties, six hundreds).
  • Jonny Bairstow struck 90 (99) in the 2019 World Cup match against Afghanistan. He is a danger player on a good batting pitch.
  • Joe Root has struck two fifties in two matches in this World Cup. Also, Root hit 88 (82) against Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup.
  • Watch out for Jos Buttler, especially if England bat first. In ODIs since the start of 2022, Buttler has struck 1,014 runs at an average of 56.33 and strike rate of 115.75.
  • Reece Topley took three powerplay wickets against Bangladesh. His height and ability to swing the ball makes him a threat early on.
  • Adil Rashid and Mark Wood picked up a wicket each in the Bangladesh game. Expect Rashid to find some spin at Delhi, while Wood can be a factor in the death overs especially.

Afghanistan:

  • Ibrahim Zadran is key for Afghanistan. Since the start of 2022, Zadran has hit 953 runs at an average of 52.94 and strike rate of 84.78.
  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz has looked good so far in this World Cup without going on to make the big score (47 and 21). Getting through the initial powerplay will be key as he can cash in later.
  • Hashmatullah Shahidi top-scored for Afghanistan on this ground against India a few days ago. The skipper hit 80 off 88 balls. Shahidi also struck 76 against England in the 2019 World Cup.
  • Can Rashid Khan deliver a memorable spell? The classy legspinner has been below his best so far in this tournament, although he looked dangerous with the bat and started his spell well against India.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 2, England 2, Afghanistan 0.
  • Eoin Morgan (148 off 71 balls) was the star when the two sides met in 2019. Rashid Khan conceded 110 in nine overs that day.
  • Ben Stokes recently hit 182 in an ODI against New Zealand.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi Pitch Report and Weather

Batting conditions have been outstanding at Delhi so far in this World Cup. South Africa hammered 428/5, followed by India chasing Afghanistan’s 272 with a mammoth 15 overs to spare.

Similar conditions are expected with a top of about 35 degrees.

Reactions: Marais Erasmus had no interest in giving LBWs in Pakistan’s innings against India

Cricket News: Reactions: Marais Erasmus had no interest in giving LBWs in Pakistan’s innings against India | Reactions to Marais Erasmus

The spotlight was on Marais Erasmus after India bowled Pakistan out for 191 in an excellent bowling performance in front of 100,000 fans at Ahmedabad.

Erasmus was reluctant to give what looked very good shouts for LBW, with two overturned and another upheld on a very tight umpire’s call.

The first of the two overturned was Saud Shakeel, who was caught on the back foot against Kuldeep Yadav. Erasmus indicated that he believed Shakeel inside edged the delivery, but an Indian review showed no edge and three reds.

The next was Haris Rauf, who was rapped on the pads off a Ravindra Jadeja delivery. Rohit was quick to review, and replays once again showed three reds to end the Pakistani innings.

It capped off an innings where Erasmus was reluctant to give anything out, which included a tight call against Babar Azam. The Pakistan skipper was hit on the pad attempting to sweep, with just less than half the ball hitting the leg stump on review.

Fans react to Marais Erasmus refusing to give LBWs

Of course, fans were all over it. Here are some of the reactions on Twitter.

In terms of the big showdown, Pakistan collapsed from 155/2 to 191 all out courtesy of wonderful Indian bowling in the middle overs. Mohammed Siraj started the procession by bowling Babar Azam, before Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav took over.

Bumrah in particular was outstanding, delivering a memorable peach to bowl the crucial Mohammad Rizwan through the gate.
