4 overseas left-arm pacers that teams will target in the IPL 2022 Auction

Cricket News: 4 overseas left-arm pacers that teams will target in the IPL 2022 Auction | Left-armers on teams’ radars in IPL 2022 Mega Auction

The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is upon us and teams have planned what they are going to do at the big event.

With a lack of quality Indian left-arm pacers available in the auction, teams will be looking to add the left-armers from the overseas bag to give a different dimension to their squads. Like left-handed batters, left arm pacers also bring an X-factor to the team.

In this age of matchups and set pieces, it is necessary for a team to have a ready left-arm pace option. Thus here we will be discussing four such candidates that franchises can target for their bowling department.

Reece Topley

England’s left-arm pacer has been in tremendous form of late since his return to England’s white-ball set up last year. Topley’s height and ability to bowl tight lines will catch bidders in the upcoming auction.

He was a part of England’s T20 World Cup squad but couldn’t make the 11. Afterwards, he represented Melbourne Renegades in the BBL 11 and bowled extremely well for the Melbourne-based franchise picking nine wickets in eight outings.

Recently, he enjoyed a productive tour against West Indies, claiming three wickets and returning with an economy rate of below six from his three outings. Topley has the skill to pull off his variations and yorkers consistently making him an effective option for the franchises.

Fazalhaq Farooqi

Fazalhaq Farooqi is not a very high-profile name like Mitchell Starc or Trent Boult but he has shown that he can be a fine investment for T20 cricket. The Afghanistan fast bowler was one of Chennai Super Kings’ net bowlers last year and he troubled the likes of Robin Uthappa, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Suresh Raina in the nets with his raw pace and well-disguised slower ones.

In the Abu Dhabi T10 league last year, one could see his aptness for the shorter format. Farooqi is adept with his variations and has many in his armory. He has the hunger to perform and win games, and if given an opportunity at 50 lakhs, he will surely try to make it count.

Jason Behrendorff

The left-arm Aussie seamer was a replacement for Hazlewood in the Indian leg of IPL 2021. However, he didn’t get a game but still got to rub shoulders with IPL legends like MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina.

Behrendorff was one of the main reasons why Perth Scorchers won the BBL 11 as he bagged 16 wickets in 13 games at an excellent economy rate of 7.32. Not exactly like Mitchell Starc, but with the new ball he can be as deadly as anyone in the world as he has got the skill to move the ball upfront and make life difficult for the batters early in the innings.

And because of his height his slower ones, he will be effective on Indian wickets. Though not an out-and-out quick, Behrendorff’s ability to bowl accurately can prove to be very handy for a captain.

Trent Boult

In the last year or so, no left-arm pacer has been as dominant as Trent Boult in T20 cricket. He really has taken his game to another level since the start of 2020.

And, he surely is on the radar of many franchises.

The ex-Mumbai Indians bowler can bowl at any phase of the 20-over game; he can strike with the new ball and he can take wickets at the back end as well.

In 2020, he led Mumbai Indians to the title with a player of the match performance in the final. During IPL 2021, he bagged 13 wickets at an economy rate of under eight. His accuracy and variations with the white ball will enable him to fetch heavy bids in the auction.

LAH vs MUL Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: PSL 2022 Match 17 | LAH vs MUL Dream11 Prediction Today | Lahore Qalandars vs Multan Sultans Key Players | Lahore Pitch Report

Multan Sultans are gunning for seventh heaven, while Lahore Qalandars aim to pick up the pieces after getting caught in the eye of a Jason Roy storm.

We are in for a cracker in the second game of PSL 2022‘s Lahore leg. Qalandars have shown positive signs right throughout the season, and here is a wonderful opportunity to make a statement on home turf. In fact, they possess the best run rate of any team so far in PSL 2022, with Fakhar Zaman central to this. Also, the Qalandars have enjoyed some good moments with the ball – particularly in the victory against Islamabad – but a big effort will be needed today with Rashid Khan now in Bangladesh ahead of Afghanistan’s white-ball series.

The Sultans continue on their merry way. Shan Masood led the way, with contributions right the way down. Then, Blessing Muzarabani made his mark on the tournament in fine style, and how he and his bowling teammates fare against Lahore’s hard-hitting lineup should be fascinating to watch.

Possible Playing 11

Lahore Qalandars: 1. Fakhar Zaman, 2. Abdullah Shafique, 3. Kamran Ghulam, 4. Mohammad Hafeez, 5. Phil Salt (wk), 6. Harry Brook, 7. David Wiese, 8. Samit Patel, 9. Shaheen Afridi (c), 10. Haris Rauf, 11. Zaman Khan

Multan Sultans: 1. Shan Masood, 2. Mohammad Rizwan (c & wk), 3. Sohaib Maqsood, 4. Rilee Rossouw/Rovman Powell, 5. Tim David, 6. Khushdil Shah, 7. Anwar Ali, 8. Abbas Afridi, 9. Imran Tahir, 10. Blessing Muzarabani, 11. Shahnawaz Dahani

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Lahore Qalandars:

  • Fakhar Zaman smashed 76 off 35 balls vs Sultans earlier this season, part of 401 runs in 10 matches against them at an average of 40.10 and strike rate of 155.43. Also, he has scored the most runs of any player so far in PSL 2022 (356, avg. 71.20, SR 173.65).
  • Fakhar will be aiming to improve on his T20 record at Lahore, which reads: 16 innings, 324 runs, avg. 20.25, SR 129.08.
  • Abdullah Shafique is Lahore’s second-highest run-getter so far in PSL 2022: 5 innings, 149 runs, avg. 29.80, SR 133.03. This included a 22-ball 24 vs Sultans a couple of weeks ago.
  • David Wiese loves batting against Sultans. The all-rounder has smashed 152 runs in six innings vs Multan since 2019 at an average of 50.67 and superb strike rate of 187.65. He also has seven wickets in as many outings.
  • Mohammad Hafeez is averaging just 22.50 this season. Can he fire today? He averages 34 against Sultans with 238 runs in eight matches. Also, he has the third-most runs of any player in T20s at Lahore: 898 runs, avg. 37.42, SR 133.04.
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi has a dream record vs Sultans. The Lahore skipper has taken 20 wickets in 10 matches against Multan at an average of 13.10 and economy rate of 7.15. This includes 3/40 earlier this season.
  • Haris Rauf averages 46 and concedes over 11 runs per over in eight matches vs Sultans (seven wickets). Can he improve on this today?

Multan Sultans:

  • Shan Masood’s dream season continued yesterday with 68 off 49 balls. The left-hander is only 13 runs behind Zaman for the most runs in this season’s PSL to date (343, avg. 57.16, SR 148.48).
  • Masood smashed 83 off 50 balls earlier this season vs Qalandars, part of a 150-run opening stand with skipper Mohammad Rizwan. Rizwan struck 69 off 42 balls in that match, part of 160 runs in three matches for Sultans vs Qalandars at an average of 53.33 and strike rate of 144.14.
  • Tim David was looking dangerous once again yesterday. He struck 34 off 18 balls, part of 197 runs this season at a strike rate of 207.36.
  • Khushdil Shah is having a season to remember. He has taken 12 wickets with the ball (only Shadab Khan has more with 14), and he struck 18 off four balls vs Qalandars earlier this season to seal victory.
  • Blessing Muzarabani was outstanding yesterday vs Zalmi with 3/18. He took 2/26 vs Lahore in the UAE last season, and in the same game, Shahnawaz Dahani took 4/5.
  • Imran Tahir has taken eight wickets in six matches vs Qalandars at an average of 19.25 and economy rate of 6.90. Also, Tahir has the third-most wickets this season, with 11 at a superb economy rate of just 6.54.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 10, Qalandars 4, Sultans 6.
  • Sultans have won the past three matches against Qalandars, including on January 29 this year when they chased down 207.
  • Harry Brook is coming off a superb 41* off 17 balls last match vs Quetta.

Gaddafi Stadium Lahore Pitch Report and Weather

The Lahore track looked pretty good for batting yesterday, with a touch of slowness to it. Multan’s 182 did look a big score, so anything in that region today will be competitive.

In the National T20 Cup in October 2021, Lahore played host to 15 matches, with the average first innings score 155.53. The chasing team won 12 of the 15 matches. A clear and mild evening is forecast.

AUS vs SL 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report

AUS vs SL 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | AUS vs SL 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction Today | Australia vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 Key Players | SCG Pitch Report

Oh look, a T20I series. You’d be forgiven if you forgot this five-match contest was taking place, with news of Justin Langer’s resignation dominating the headlines.

On Wednesday, Pat Cummins took to the media to explain Australia’s desire for a different style of coach, stirring further reaction and opinion. After all, if the coach had to go, why would Cricket Australia even bother offering him a six-month extension?

Anyway, that can be put aside for now. Andrew McDonald will take the helm as interim coach for this T20I series against Sri Lanka – Australia’s first as T20 World Cup champions. With another T20 World Cup this year – this time on home soil – Australia will be seeking to continue the kind of momentum they generated in a magnificent run to the title in the UAE in 2021.

However, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, two players who were key in the run to the title, are not available for this series. So, this can give the Sri Lankans a sense of confidence on top of the promising signs they showed in last year’s World Cup. Charith Asalanka in particular was a shining light, while Wanindu Hasaranga’s influence on this team is clear to see.

Also, there is a chance this Australia side could be distracted by all the Langer saga, which could bring the tourists right into the equation. if the Lions put the home team under pressure early, who knows what can happen.

Possible Playing 11

Daniel Sams has been included in Australia’s T20I squad. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh have been rested, while Travis Head opted out of the first three T20Is to play Sheffield Shield.

Australia has confirmed their XI, with Josh Inglis to debut at number three.

Australia: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. Ben McDermott, 3. Josh Inglis, 4. Steve Smith, 5. Glenn Maxwell, 6. Marcus Stoinis, 7. Matthew Wade (wk), 8. Mitchell Starc, 9. Pat Cummins, 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Josh Hazlewood

Sri Lanka have included Kusal Mendia and Danushka Gunathilaka in their T20I squad.

Sri Lanka: 1. Pathum Nissanka, 2. Danushka Gunathilaka/Dinesh Chandimal, 3. Charith Asalanka, 4. Avishka Fernando, 5. Kusal Mendis, 6. Dasun Shanaka (c), 7. Wanindu Hasaranga, 8. Chamika Karunaratne, 9. Dushmantha Chameera, 10. Maheesh Theekshana, 11. Binura Fernando/Lahiru Kumara

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Australia:

  • Glenn Maxwell, who recently smashed 154* in the BBL, has an insane record against Sri Lanka. The right-hander has smashed 286 runs in five innings against them at an average of 95.33 and strike rate of 218.32, with a top score of 145*. He also has three wickets to his name.
  • Maxwell also has some good T20 numbers at the SCG. He has struck 332 runs in 12 innings on this ground at an average of 30.18 and strike rate of 143.10. He also has 10 wickets in 10 bowling innings.
  • Aaron Finch struck a fluent 37 off 23 balls against Sri Lanka in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He has scored 254 runs in nine innings overall against the Lions at an average of 28.22 and strike rate of 149.41. The skipper will be seeking to improve on this.
  • Finch has a T20 century on this ground. He has struck 251 runs in six innings at the SCG at an average of 50.20 and strike rate of 146.78.
  • Ben McDermott is set to return to the national team after a brilliant BBL campaign. He scored the most runs of any player, with 577 at an average of 48.08 and strike rate of 153.86, including two centuries.
  • Adam Zampa was player of the match in Australia’s T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka (2/12). The leg-spinner has a superb record overall against them, taking two wickets per match on average (8 inns, 16 wickets, avg. 10.62, SR 12).
  • Allan Border Medallist Mitchell Starc will be looking to continue the good form. He has taken 11 wickets in seven matches vs Sri Lanka at an average of 17.18 and economy rate of 6.75, including 2/27 in last year’s World Cup.
  • Starc also has a terrific T20 record at the SCG. The left-armer has taken 15 wickets in just eight matches on this ground at an average of 14.47 and strike rate of 12.
  • Josh Hazlewood had a breakthrough year in T20s in 2021. He played a key role in CSK’s IPL triumph and Australia’s World Cup win with a total of 34 wickets in 24 T20s last year.

Sri Lanka:

  • Eyes will be on Charith Asalanka. He was one of the top players in last year’s T20 World Cup, playing with great impetus. Also, he recently scored 71, 23 and 52 in ODIs vs Zimbabwe, followed by 52* in a domestic one day match.
  • Wanindu Hasaranga will be crucial to Sri Lanka’s hopes. Also, he should enjoy bowling to Australia’s right-handers. 43 of Hasaranga’s 51 T20I wickets so far are right-handers. He took 2/22 against Australia in the World Cup match between the teams.
  • Pathum Nissanka was player of the series in a recent three-match ODI series vs Zimbabwe (156 runs). Also, he scored the seventh-most runs of any player in last year’s World Cup (8 inns, 221 runs, avg. 27.62, SR 117.55).
  • Dushmantha Chameera will be key in the crunch death overs. The pace bowler had a good year in T20s with 35 wickets in 29 matches at a respectable economy rate of 7.74.
  • Mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana will be one to watch. He took eight wickets in his last five matches of Sri Lanka’s Lanka Premier League in December.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 17, Australia 9, Sri Lanka 8.
  • Australia have won the past five T20Is against Sri Lanka.
  • Between 2010 and 2017, Sri Lanka won all five T20Is against Australia in Australia. Australia have won all four since February 2017.

SCG Pitch Report and Weather

It is likely to rain during the day in Sydney. This could potentially mean a shortened match.

The SCG has been a good place to bat in recent times. The average first innings score at the SCG in BBL 11 was 173.67 in six matches, with the teams batting first and second winning three games each.

MUL vs PES Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: PSL 2022 Match 16 | MUL vs PES Dream11 Prediction Today | Multan Sultans vs Peshawar Zalmi Key Players | Lahore Pitch Report

The second-half of PSL 2022 is upon us, and it promises to be a cracker. As the action moves from Karachi to Lahore, a number of teams will be seeking a move towards the title, with Multan Sultans leading the way in what could be the most open PSL title race in years.

Sultans have been outstanding. They have won a perfect five from five, with their latest victory a thumping 57-run win over Peshawar Zalmi. They meet again today, and Zalmi will need to find a way to stop a Sultans lineup that is on fire, with Tim David in particular thumping the ball to all parts.

David’s 19-ball 51 along with Rizwan’s 82 served as a key reminder to 2021 finalists Zalmi of the improvement they need to challenge this season. They have the worst net run rate of any team, but the talent in their team provides Zalmi fans with hope that they can improve quickly.

Possible Playing 11

Multan Sultans: 1. Shan Masood, 2. Mohammad Rizwan (c & wk), 3. Sohaib Maqsood, 4. Tim David, 5. Johnson Charles/Rovman Powell, 6. Khushdil Shah, 7. Anwar Ali, 8. Abbas Afridi, 9. Imran Tahir, 10. Blessing Muzarabani/David Willey, 11. Shahnawaz Dahani

Peshawar Zalmi: 1. Kamran Akmal (wk), 2. Hazratullah Zazai, 3. Haider Ali, 4. Shoaib Malik, 5. Sherfane Rutherford/Liam Livingstone, 6. Ben Cutting, 7. Wahab Riaz (c), 8. Saqib Mahmood, 9. Mohammad Umar, 10. Usman Qadir, 11. Salman Irshad

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Multan Sultans:

  • Mohammad Rizwan stormed back into form. His brilliant 82 off 53 balls vs Zalmi five days ago was his third half-century in five matches in PSL 2022. He now has racked up 235 runs in four innings vs Zalmi since the start of last year at an average of 78.33 and strike rate of 140.72.
  • Rizwan has also enjoyed success at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. He has a century on this ground, part of a total of 340 runs in 13 innings at an average of 42.50 and strike rate of 127.82.
  • Tim David is striking at an extraordinary 211.68 in five matches this season, which includes that memorable 19-ball 51* vs Zalmi five days ago. His 163 runs in PSL 2022 includes two half-centuries and three not-outs.
  • Shan Masood is also having a season to remember. The left-hander has the second-most runs in PSL 2022, with 275 at an average of 55.00 and strike rate of 151.09, including 35 off 25 balls last match vs Zalmi. He will be aiming to improve on his record at Lahore, where he averages 20.38 in 13 matches (265 runs).
  • Sohaib Maqsood is yet to fully fire in PSL 2022, but this could be the day. The PSL 2021 player of the season has a superb record against for Sultans vs Zalmi since 2018, smashing 293 runs in six innings at an average of 73.25 and strike rate of 180.86.
  • Khushdil Shah has been outstanding with the ball in PSL 2022. He has taken the third-most wickets (9) at a superb economy rate of just 5.78 in a tournament where the batsmen have dominated so far.
  • Imran Tahir continues to produce gold. Only Shadab Khan (14) has taken more wickets than Tahir’s 10 so far this season. This includes an excellent 3/25 vs Zalmi five days ago.
  • Shahnawaz Dahani has taken nine wickets in four matches vs Zalmi, including a three-fer in the last match.

Peshawar Zalmi:

  • Hazratullah Zazai looked decent enough in the last match vs Sultans (43 off 32 balls), but needed more support. He will be key again today.
  • Haider Ali has notched up a double-figure score in each match so far this season (19, 15, 49, 16, 24), but is yet to cross the 50 mark. Will today be the day? He averages 31.00 in five matches vs Sultans (124 runs, SR 153.09).
  • Shoaib Malik has the most runs of any player in T20s at Gaddafi Stadium. The veteran has struck 1,089 runs on this ground at a magnificent average of 57.32 and strike rate of 135.79. He will be aiming to improve on his record vs Sultans (6 inns, 102 runs, avg. 20.40, SR 132.47).
  • Wahab Riaz has gone wicketless in all his four matches in PSL 2022, including a very expensive 0/55 vs Sultans. He does have the most wickets of any bowler in T20s at Lahore (40 in 37 matches, avg. 21.30, econ. 6.35), so the Zalmi captain will be hoping for a turnaround.
  • Saqib Mahmood will be key. He took 12 wickets in his five matches in 2021 (including 2/36 vs Sultans), but started expensively this season (3-0-39-0).

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 10, Multan 7, Peshawar 3.
  • Multan have won the last three matches between the teams.
  • Zalmi have won three out of four PSL matches at Lahore. Sultans have won just one of three completed matches on this ground.
  • Zalmi need more from Kamran Akmal. He has a poor record vs Sultans: 10 inns, 148 runs, avg. 14.80, SR 117.46.

Gaddafi Stadium Lahore Pitch Report and Weather

A cool and clear evening is forecast in Lahore, which may bring about dew. In the National T20 Cup in October 2021, Lahore played host to 15 matches, with the average first innings score 155.53. The chasing team won 12 of the 15 matches.

Expect the captain who wins the toss to choose to chase.

“Different style of coach is needed for this team” – Pat Cummins

Cricket News: “Different style of coach is needed for this team” – Pat Cummins | Cummins spoke to the media after Justin Langer’s resignation

Australia captain Pat Cummins has broken his silence following Justin Langer’s resignation. Speaking to the media in Sydney ahead of Australia’s T20I series against Sri Lanka, Cummins provided some details about what the team was after from a coaching perspective after releasing a statement earlier in the day.

“This group looking forward, there’s a few things through the review process we really wanted and what was important to get the best out of our players” Cummins said.

“I think the players would benefit from a more collaborative approach [with the coach]. I think a big theme for this summer was being calm, more composed. That was really clear in the feedback from players, support staff and Cricket Australia.”

“That’s the direction we want to take the team.”

“Now is the right time for a different direction” – Pat Cummins

Cummins thanked Justin Langer for the job he did after coming in at a challenging time and that he loved working with him. Also, he credited the former coach for adjusting his style over the past six months after intense discussions before the T20 World Cup.

However, Cummins admitted that now is the right time for a different direction with important tours coming up in 2022.

“We believe it’s the right time for a different direction. It’s a matter of opinion, but we think it’s the right one”, Cummins said.

The captain then pointed to how the difference of opinion between Langer and the players ultimately led to this predicament.

“Difference of opinion. If you can’t resolve those differences of opinion, then it’s time for change. And that’s what’s happened” – said Cummins later in the press conference.

“Completely disagree with Mitchell Johnson”

Former Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson went in hard at Pat Cummins over the weekend following the news of Langer. Johnson, previously Cummins’ teammate, was scathing of Cummins the captain.

In his column for The West Australian, Johnson wrote, “Cummins might have delivered with the ball during the Ashes series, but he has failed his first big test as captain pretty miserably…. He’s clearly had an agenda to get in a coach he wants. His recent interviews have been gutless by not respecting his coach when he could have been upfront from the start.”

Cummins responded by saying he disagrees with the comments, but respected that he is entitled to his opinion and to defend a friend.

“He’s just sticking up for a mate,” Cummins said. “I absolutely disagree with what he said – he hasn’t reached out, and that’s fine, he’s sticking up for a mate. I know I can hold my head high, I’m fine,” said Cummins in response to a question on Johnson’s comment.

Australia move forward with Sri Lanka and Pakistan series

So little has been made of Australia’s upcoming five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, with the Langer saga dominating the headlines. The defending T20 World Cup champions will play the first of five matches against the Lions on February 11 at the SCG, before the series moves to Canberra and Melbourne.

“I think the players would benefit from a more collaborative approach. I think a big theme for this summer was being calm, more composed. That was really clear in the feedback from players, support staff and Cricket Australia.”

Pat Cummins

Australia will then tour Pakistan for the first time since 1998 for three Tests, three ODIs and a T20I. They have named their squad for the Test series, with Ashton Agar included to bolster the spin stocks.

Currently, Andrew McDonald is at the helm as the interim coach as Cricket Australia looks for Justin Langer’s replacement.

IND vs WI 2nd ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report

IND vs WI 2nd ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | IND vs WI 2nd ODI Dream11 Prediction Today | India vs West Indies 2nd ODI Key Players | Ahmedabad Pitch Report

Watching West Indies in ODIs is like a horror movie. Since the start of 2019, the men in maroon have lost 26 of their 47 ODIs, including four of their past five series with the latest being a demoralising 2-1 defeat at home to Ireland.

And things didn’t get better in the first ODI in India. Apart from Jason Holder’s resistance and Alzarri Joseph’s double-wicket over, the Windies were never in the game, succumbing the spin and guile of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar. If they are to mount a challenge in this ODI series, it is their batting that needs to stand up and put runs on the board to leave the Indians with some thinking to do.

And it is an India side that is bound to get stronger. Three of the four players who had COVID-19 have restarted training, while KL Rahul is available again. Chahal and Washington Sundar were impressive in the spin department, partnering a pace attack that did show greater efficiency as compared to India’s recent disappointment in South Africa.

The task is simple for India. Continue building towards the 2023 World Cup with an all-round performance, particularly with the middle order contributing where possible. For the Windies, it is about getting into the game early and staying with India as long as they can.

Possible Playing 11

Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Navdeep Saini had a light training session after testing negative for COVID-19. However, India could give them a little more time to recover and recoup.

KL Rahul is back from personal leave and could slot in as opener, meaning Ishan Kishan will miss out. Another option is KL Rahul coming in for Deepak Hooda.

India: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. KL Rahul, 3. Virat Kohli, 4. Rishabh Pant (wk), 5. Suryakumar Yadav, 6. Deepak Hooda, 7. Washington Sundar, 8. Shardul Thakur, 9. Mohammed Siraj, 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Prasidh Krishna

West Indies could stick with the same team in the quest to level the series.

West Indies: 1. Shai Hope (wk), 2. Brandon King, 3. Darren Bravo, 4. Shamarh Brooks, 5. Nicholas Pooran, 6. Kieron Pollard (c), 7. Jason Holder, 8. Fabian Allen, 9. Akeal Hosein, 10. Alzarri Joseph, 11. Kemar Roach

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

India:

  • Rohit Sharma looked in excellent touch in the first ODI. The skipper hammered a 51-ball 60, cut short by Alzarri Joseph when he looked set for more. It was another chapter in Rohit’s excellent record vs West Indies, which reads: 32 innings, 1,583 runs, avg. 60.88, SR 92.35.
  • At home, the numbers are even better for Rohit against the Windies: 17 innings, 1,100 runs, avg. 78.57, SR 101.10.
  • KL Rahul is set to return to the ODI lineup. He has a century and half-century in four ODIs vs West Indies.
  • It was certainly an uncharacteristic innings by Virat Kohli in the first ODI. The great batsman still has good numbers since his last ODI hundred back in August 2019, with an average of over 40 and strike rate in the 90s. He has crossed 50 ten times in this period.
  • Kohli has the most runs in India-West Indies ODIs, with 2,243 runs at an average of 70.09 and strike rate of 97.52.
  • Suryakumar Yadav was composed and classy as ever in what could have been a tricky situation for India in the first ODI. His 34* along with Deepak Hooda’s 26* led India home comfortably. Suryakumar now averages 65.56 in five ODIs.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal proved why he is one of the top contenders for leading wicket-taker in this IND-WI ODI series. He was outstanding in the first match, finding spin and drift to bamboozle the Windies en-route 4/49. Washington Sundar (3/30) was also brilliant.
  • Mohammed Siraj will be key once again in the powerplay, especially with his off-cutters. His battle with Shai Hope will make for interesting viewing. Prasidh Krishna had one of his finest days in an India shirt (2/29), and will be looking to back it up here.

West Indies:

  • Shai Hope will be key to the Windies’ hopes. He has the ability to hold an innings together. Despite his failure in the first match. Hope still has a terrific record against India, with 701 runs in 17 innings at an average of 50.07. In India, this average bumps up to 68.57 in nine matches.
  • Nicholas Pooran was looking in promising touch in the first ODI (18 off 25 balls) before falling LBW to Chahal. Pooran came into this series on the back of some good T20 form, so the Windies will be hoping for a big contribution.
  • Time to push Jason Holder up the order? His 57 saved the Windies from greater embarrassment in the first ODI. In fact, he has come out to bat 19 times before the 25th over since the 2015 World Cup, and he averages 35.25 and strikes at 88 in such circumstances.
  • Holder averages a respectable 33.75 with the bat in ODIs in India, but his bowling figures make for sorry reading. His seven wickets in India cost 87.14 apiece.
  • Alzarri Joseph has been one of West Indies’ bright spots in ODIs in recent times. He will once again look to hit the pitch hard but produce more economical bowling after his 2/45 in seven overs on Sunday.
  • The impressive Akeal Hosein has taken at least one wicket in each of his last 11 internationals.

Stats and Facts

  • Among players in the Windies squad, only Shai Hope averages more than Virat Kohli’s 40.68 since August 2019.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal’s average of 27.27 is the best among Indian spinners with at least 100 ODI wickets.
  • Since the start of 2019, West Indies’ top seven average just 34.33 per wicket in ODIs against Full Member sides excluding Ireland and Zimbabwe. Only Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have worse numbers.

Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad Pitch Report and Weather

It was a tricky surface to bat on in the first ODI, with movement and turn available to the pace and spin bowlers. Dew didn’t play a huge role in the first match, but the captains may still look to chase anyway under lights. Expect the spinners to play a role once again.

3 U19 stars who will likely land a deal in the IPL 2022 Auction

Cricket News: 3 U19 stars who will likely land a deal in the IPL 2022 Auction | 3 U19 stars who should find a home in IPL 2022

The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is just a few days away, and all teams are in the planning phase to shortlist potential players they can target in the auction.

To be specific, teams will be looking to build their core team around retained players for the next few years. And the franchises will be looking to invest in the future players as over the years a number of uncapped young talented individuals, yet to play an international, have used the most coveted league in the world as a platform to showcase their prowess and pedigree.

This year promises to be no different. The recently concluded U19 World Cup in the West Indies saw young players from various countries show their mettle and catch the eyeballs of many around the globe. In this article, we look at the three such U19 players who can get hefty deals during the IPL 2022 Auction on February 12 and 13.

Yash Dhull

3 U19 stars who will likely land a deal in the IPL 2022 Auction: Yash Dhull

India’s captain is one of the most promising talents from this year’s U19 World Cup. He is India’s key batter, and has produced some brilliant knocks including a match-winning hundred against Australia to take his team to the Final.

He will definitely be one of the most attractive young uncapped batters out there that the IPL franchises will bid for. He is an aggressive attacker of the ball and has a decent sense of game understanding that helps him choose his stance and aggression carefully.

A young quality middle-order Indian batter at 20 lakhs, Dhull is certain to be on the radar of many franchises. Aside from the batting, the Delhi batter is also a sharp fielder, and having him in the team will guarantee a long rewarding association.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar

The hard-hitting bowling all-rounder is going to steal the spotlight in the auction.

Apart from his prowess with the ball, the Maharashtra pacer has also exhibited his big-hitting skills in the tournament. With the ball, he can clock high 130’s and hit the deck hard. He’s regarded as the best six-hitter in the U19 team, so with the bat he can be used as a middle-order enforcer; someone who can take on the bowlers.

He showed his credentials as an all-rounder and he might cause a bidding war among the franchises. A tall player with a strong build who’s deadly with the new ball and can hit lusty blows with the bat is sure to attract bidders.

Hangargekar’s slightly higher base price of 30 lakh also suggests that he is confident of sparking heavy interest amongst the franchises.

Dewald Brevis

3 U19 stars who will likely land a deal in the IPL 2022 Auction: Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis burst onto the scene at the U19 World Cup when he displayed his ability to score at a good clip irrespective of the plans and fields set against him, courtesy of his brilliant strokeplay.

Brevis aggregated a total of 506 runs in the 2022 U19 World Cup, going past Dhawan’s tally of 505 at 84.33 by scoring three half-centuries and two hundreds to become the top-scorer in a single edition.

The U19 star has already earned the nickname of “Baby AB” and he’s also likely to earn a contract in the upcoming mega auction. At the age of 18, he has already developed the 360° game with the bat and if required he can roll his arm over for a few overs of leg-spin. He has placed himself in the Rs 20 lakh bracket and he’s already on the radar of a few franchises.

AUS vs SL T20Is: Post Langer era officially begins soon after resignation

AUS vs SL T20Is: Post Langer era officially begins soon after resignation | AUS vs SL T20Is: Five-match T20 series to begin on February 11

Life after Justin Langer begins quickly for Australia with the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka kicking off this Friday. The series is almost an afterthought amid the Langer situation, where the former coach rejected Cricket Australia’s short-term contract offer, ending nearly four years in the role.

Langer led Australia to its first ever men’s T20 World Cup triumph last November, but it will be interim coach Andrew McDonald at the helm for the upcoming series. The defending champions will play the first of five T20Is against Sri Lanka on February 11 in Sydney, which serves as preparation for another T20 World Cup this year, this time in Australia.

The home side will be looking to keep the momentum going after a convincing 4-0 Ashes triumph as well. According to 10cric, Australia start the series as strong favourites. They have won their past five T20Is against Sri Lanka, including a convincing victory in last year’s World Cup.

AUS vs SL T20Is: Australia aim to keep the T20 momentum going with some newer faces

Australia go into this series with a near full-strength squad. Aaron Finch will lead the side in a very important series for him personally after a lean 2021 with the bat. Ben McDermott, who was superb in the recent BBL 11, is likely to win an opening berth in the absence of David Warner. Also, expect Josh Inglis to get game time with Mitchell Marsh rested.

Eyes will be on Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade to see if they can continue their middle order brilliance from the T20 World Cup. Both saw Australia home in a thrilling Semi Final against Pakistan, and Stoinis himself credited his time in the IPL for his improvement.

Also, Australia will field a full-strength bowling attack – an attack that played a central role in reaching the 2021 World Cup Semi Finals and then winning the tournament.

Australia T20I squad: Aaron Finch (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head*, Moises Henriques, Josh Inglis, Ben McDermott, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Daniel Sams, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa

*Will miss first three matches

Sri Lanka to target Australia’s list of right-handers

AUS vs SL T20Is: Post Langer era officially begins soon after resignation | AUS vs SL T20Is: Five-match T20 series to begin on February 11
AUS vs SL T20Is: Wanindu Hasaranga will be key for Sri Lanka.

However, Sri Lanka have made improvements in recent times. With the emergence of the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka, the Island nation will be out to impress.

Hasaranga in particular is one to watch. He has a superb record against right-handers, and Australia’s lineup is with them. David Warner will be taking a much-needed rest, and Travis Head will miss the first three games after opting to play Sheffield Shield ahead of Australia’s long-awaited tour of Pakistan.

Of Hasaranga’s 52 T20I wickets to date, 43 of them are right-handers. Given Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne – the three venues for the series – can all suit spin; it is a clear avenue for the tourists to make a foothold in the series.

Sri Lanka T20I squad: Dasun Shanaka (c), Charith Asalanka, Avishka Fernando, Pathum Nissanka, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Chamika Karunaratne, Janith Liyanage, Kamil Mishara, Ramesh Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara, Nuwan Thushara, Dushmantha Chameera, Binura Fernando, Maheesh Theekshana, Jeffrey Vandersay, Praveen Jayawickrama, Shiran Fernando

3 players from Associate nations who can attract buyers in the IPL 2022 Auction

Cricket News: 3 players from Associate nations who can attract buyers in the IPL 2022 Auction | 3 players from Associate nations who can get a franchise in IPL

The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is all set to take place on February 12th & 13th in Bangalore. Earlier, it was informed that 1214 players registered themselves for the auction, and out of 1214, only 590 players have been registered for the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Out of the 590 players, seven associate players have been shortlisted to undergo the hammer at the IPL 2022 mega auction. These 7 cricketers are from Associate nations like USA, Nepal, Namibia, and Scotland, namely David Wiese, JJ Smit, Ruben Trumpelmann, Sandeep Lamichhane, Brad Wheal, Safyaan Sharif, and Ali Khan.

All seven players have displayed their skills in the 20-over format and will be hoping to participate in the World’s richest cricket league. In this article, we look at the three associate cricketers who may find a bidder at the Mega Auction.

Ali Khan

Ali Khan is the first and only player from the USA to be a part of an IPL franchise when he was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2020 edition of the IPL. He emerged as a proven wicket-taker from the Caribbean Premier League where he represented Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR).

The right-arm fast bowler has 53 wickets in 48 T20 matches. Ali Khan went unsold in IPL 2021 auctions, and would be hoping for a buyer in the IPL 2022 mega auction. The 31-year old right-arm medium pacer has set his base price at 40 lakhs and at this price he could well attract buyers as he has the raw pace and wicket-taking ability to make an impact if given an opportunity in the IPL.

Sandeep Lamichhane

Nepal’s globe-trotting spinner has played for all the top franchises in the best T20 leagues of the world, including for the Delhi Daredevils (as the Delhi Capitals were called back then) in the IPL. In 2018, Lamichhane made history when he was bought for Rs 20 lakhs by the Delhi-based franchise, becoming the first cricketer from Nepal to be sold in the IPL auction.

Lamichhane was a part of the Delhi Capitals squad in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. However, after not finding a place in the whole IPL 2020 season, he was released by the Delhi Capitals team in 2021. Sandeep was also shortlisted in the 40 lakhs base price category and considering the dominance of wrist spinners in T20 Cricket, he’s most likely to find a new home in the upcoming auction.

David Wiese

Namibia all-rounder David Wiese is one of three cricketers from his country in the IPL 2022 mega auction player shortlist. The Veteran all-rounder may be 36-years-old, but his attributes make him a suitable player for a competition like the IPL. Hence, despite his age, a few teams might go after his wealth of experience and his current form.

The ex-South African international caught everyone’s eyes in the T20 World Cup 2021 where he played a major role in Namibia’s Super-12 qualification. A bowler who can roll his arm over at any stage of the game and a batter who can strike big while batting in the lower middle order, Wiese is a complete package and can be a valuable asset to any of 10 IPL teams.

Wiese has been part of Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past. He might just receive an opportunity to make a comeback for just 50 lakhs in the IPL 2022 mega auction. It’s most likely that he’ll not be left unsold this time as teams will be hunting for a quality all-rounder and of late David Wiese has shown that he’s quality.

QUE vs LAH Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: PSL 2022 Match 15

QUE vs LAH Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: PSL 2022 Match 15 | QUE vs LAH Dream11 Prediction Today | Quetta Gladiators vs Lahore Qalandars | Karachi Pitch Report

The final match of the Karachi leg of PSL 2022 is a vital one. Quetta Gladiators, who finished bottom in PSL 2021, have shown some positive signs this season but remain unable to perform consistently. Lahore Qalandars, who also missed the playoffs last year, are starting to take shape nicely after a superb come-from-behind win against the high-flying Islamabad United.

Quetta were all over the place with the ball in their last match vs Islamabad, so the focus will be keeping Lahore in check. This particularly applies to Fakhar Zaman who is in magnificent touch this season, and if Quetta can pick up his wicket early, it will enable them to target Lahore’s middle order as soon as possible.

Sarfaraz Ahmed’s team sit two points behind fourth-placed Zalmi, and a win here will put them into the top four heading into the second-half of PSL 2022. Lahore, who are in third-place currently, sit four points clear of Quetta, so there is incentive for Shaheen Shah Afridi’s team to pull further clear fifth place. Their bowling attack is shaping up as one of the best in the competition, and they will back themselves to get the better of an inconsistent Gladiators team.

Possible Playing 11

Jason Roy has joined up with the Gladiators and is likely to play in this game.

Quetta Gladiators: 1. Ahsan Ali, 2. Jason Roy, 3. James Vince/Ben Duckett, 4. Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk), 5. Iftikhar Ahmed, 6. Abdul Bangalzai, 7. Mohammad Nawaz, 8. Shahid Afridi, 9. James Faulkner, 10. Sohail Tanvir, 11. Naseem Shah

Lahore Qalandars: 1. Fakhar Zaman, 2. Abdullah Shafique, 3. Kamran Ghulam, 4. Mohammad Hafeez, 5. Phil Salt (wk), 6. Harry Brook, 7. David Wiese, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Shaheen Afridi (c), 10. Haris Rauf, 11. Zaman Khan

  • A lot is expected of James Vince as Quetta need to shore up their batting. The Englishman has scored 142 runs in six innings vs Qalandars at an average of 23.67 and impressive strike rate of 173.17.
  • If available, can Jason Roy make an immediate impact? He has scored 54 runs in three career games vs Lahore, and comes into this match off the back of a steady series vs West Indies (130 runs, avg. 26, SR 130).
  • Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed has been quiet this season. He has the most runs in Quetta-Lahore matches with 291 runs in 11 matches at an average of 36.48 and strike rate of 133.49. He scored 40 (33) and 34* (27) vs Qalandars in 2021.
  • Mohammad Nawaz smashed 47 off 22 balls in his last match vs Islamabad, along with figures of 2/32. He has taken 10 wickets in 12 matches vs Lahore at an average of 25.40 and economy rate of 6.88, as well as 166 runs at an average of 20 and strike rate of 101.
  • James Faulkner took 3/25 in his last match vs Qalandars, back in PSL 2021. He has taken one wicket per match this season, and scored 30* off 14 balls with the bat last game vs Islamabad.

Lahore Qalandars:

  • Fakhar Zaman is having a dream season. The left-hander has scored the most runs in PSL 2022 with a superb 282 runs in four matches at an average of 71.50 and strike rate of 178.75.
  • Fakhar has scored 287 runs in 10 matches vs Quetta at an average of 31.89 and superb strike rate of 149.48, including 82* off 52 balls on this ground last season.
  • Abdullah Shafique comes into this match in some good form. The right-hander smashed 44 off 24 balls in his last game vs Islamabad.
  • Mohammad Hafeez smashed 73* off 33 balls vs Quetta on this ground in PSL 2021. Overall, Hafeez has struck 386 runs in 14 matches at an average of 32.17 and strike rate of 122.93.
  • Rashid Khan has taken one wicket in each match this season at a fine economy rate of 6.93. He also has two wickets in as many matches vs Quetta at an economy rate of just 6.63.
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi has taken seven wickets in four matches this season at a terrific economy rate of 7.12 given he bowls in the crunch overs. He will be aiming to build on his record of five wickets in seven matches vs Quetta (avg. 39.00, econ. 7.75).
  • Zaman Khan has been named player of the match in Lahore’s last two matches. The right-armer has been outstanding in the death overs, finishing with 3/32 and 1/29 and holding his nerve.
  • Haris Rauf vs Quetta: 4 matches, 7 wickets, avg. 18.57, econ. 8.13.

Stats and Facts

  • Matches 12, Quetta 6, Lahore 6.
  • Lahore have won four of the past five matches between the teams.
  • Quetta will move into the top four if they win this match.

The team batting first continues to reign supreme in PSL 2022, winning the past eight matches. The average first innings score in these eight games is 195.63. Another clear evening is forecast in Karachi and we can expect more good batting conditions.
