Will Dream11 and fantasy cricket have a subscription model in the future?

The 2025 Online Gaming Bill put an end to fantasy cricket as we knew it. The bill was introduced due to the financial risk involved with players investing money to join paid contests to play fantasy sports.

“It is the duty of the government and the parliament to take strict action against social evils, which keep erupting time and again,” federal IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in parliament back in August, as quoted by Reuters.

Currently, fans can still play fantasy cricket via free contests on Dream11. The platform is offering prizes including cash and smartphones. There is the presence of third-party ads on the Dream11 app which assists in revenue-generation.

Can there be a subscription model for Dream11 and fantasy cricket under the 2025 Online Gaming Bill?

However, one prominent question is whether fantasy cricket can operate as a subscription model under the law.

Sports lawyer Vidushpat Singhania shed light on this. He said that a subscription model is permissable under 2025 Online Gaming Bill as it’s the real money gaming that has been banned.

“There will be a subscription fee and say you pay Rs 100 for a gaming app and test your skills in fantasy gaming,” Singhania told PTI earlier in 2025, as quoted by The Economic Times. “But real money gaming which is paying and earning money, that is prohibited as per this bill.”

Previously, players could invest money in as many contests for as many cricket matches as they wanted to. However, this led to addictions and financial harm, which is why the 2025 Online Gaming Bill was introduced. Dream11 shut down its real-money gaming (RMG) business as a result.

Under a prospective subscription model, fantasy cricket players can invest one set amount per month. They can then play in matches that the platform allows them to depending on their investment. Time will tell as to whether this does eventuate.

IND-W vs SA-W Twitter Reactions – Huge celebrations as India win first ever Women’s Cricket World Cup title

“Dear girls, you knocked the door twice, this time break it open,” read a sign in the crowd early in the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup Final.

And that’s what India did.

After many near misses over the years, India got over the line this time, beating South Africa by 52 runs to win their first ever Women’s Cricket World Cup title. Shafali Verma, who was brought into the squad due to Pratika Rawal’s injury, produced an inspired performance that will be remembered for many years to come.

“Of course, what happened with Pratika – as a sportsperson, seeing that doesn’t feel good. No one wants any player to go through such an injury. But I believe God has sent me here to do something good,” said Shafali earlier this week, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. It is incredible how things transpired, with Shafali, along with player of the tournament Deepti Sharma, producing fantastic all-round displays.

More partnerships prove crucial for India

Shafali and Smriti Mandhana (46) got India off to a strong start, combining for a 100-plus stand. It was a terrific partnership given the delayed start and presence of some movement following the rain. The Proteas then began to fight back in the middle, but India’s team spirit prevailed again as Deepti Sharma (58) and Richa Ghosh (34) ensured they reached a very competitive 298/7.

In response, the great Laura Wolvaardt led the way but crucially lacked support as South Africa lost too many regular wickets. At 209/5 in the 40th over, the Proteas were a genuine chance, but the fact their first seven partnerships read: 51, 11, 52, 9, 25, 61 and 11 proved costly. One big partnership could have got them over the line, and that could have been the opening stand as the 51-run partnership was cut short by an unnecessary run out.

Spare a thought for Wolvaardt. The classy opener deserved to be on the winning team. Her 98-ball 101 was her second-straight century following her classic against England, culminating in 571 runs in the tournament at an average of 71.37 with three fifties and two hundreds. However, with her in great form and a young South African team featuring in finals, their time could well be coming.

IND-W vs SA-W Twitter Reactions: India win first ever World Cup title after so many near misses

On most days, a performance of 58 (58) and 5/39 wins you the player of the match award. Deepti Sharma was simply outstanding, keeping things tight in the middle and picking up the crucial wicket of Annerie Dercksen as South Africa were gaining momentum. She soon took the wicket of Laura Wolvaardt courtesy of Amanjot Kaur’s juggling catch. From there, it was clear who he winning team would be.

Credit to Shafali as well, who also bowled superbly. “If my heart is saying I should give at least one over to her, I’m going to give her,” said Harmanpreet Kaur, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “And then I just asked her, ‘can you bowl one over?’ And she was so ready, and she’s always wanted to bowl for the team. I think that was a turning point for us.”

India’s win has sparked huge reactions on social media. India fans are thrilled, the neutrals were in awe of how far they – and the women’s game overall – has come in recent years. South Africa fans were heartbroken, but they can take heart from their efforts.

“This is a moment in time that will change the course of the women’s game,” wrote Harsha Bhogle on X (formerly Twitter). “What I like most about this India victory is that it wasn’t the superstars that won it. A knock from Shafali, a dig from Richa, some all round Deepti resilience. None are their headline acts. But such a core part of this team’s story. Fabulous. Here’s to the legacy,” wrote Isabelle Westbury.

Here are some of the reactions to an incredible game as India savour World Cup glory.

“How will England deal with this?” -Josh Hazlewood takes 3/13 in classic spell during 2nd T20I against India

Josh Hazlewood’s magnificent start to the season has continued, producing a man of the match performance in the second T20I against India. Hazlewood ripped through the Indian top order in an exhibition of seam bowling on an MCG pitch offering bounce.

In a format where unpredictability is important from a bowling perspective, Hazlewood continues to find success by keeping things simple. His control of length, ability to get the ball to rise, and skill to seam the ball both ways is a treat to watch.

Hazlewood finished the powerplay with figures of 3/6, giving Shubman Gill in particular a torrid time. Given how well he has been bowling of late – most notably in his all-time none-for in the Adelaide ODI – it was a matter of time before he would tick the wickets column over. He then dismissed Suryakumar Yadav with a peach and soon had Tilak Varma top edging an attempted hoick to the legside.

The fast bowler finished with figures of 3/13. From there, India were always behind the eight-ball. Abhishek Sharma tried his best, but the fact he was starved of the strike made the task all the more difficult. He was dismissed in the 19th over having faced 37 balls for his 68. India finished with 125, which Australia chased with 40 balls to spare.

“The way he [Hazlewood] bowled today, even I got surprised,” said Abhishek in the post-match press conference. “I haven’t seen something like this in T20s. This is something new for me as well.

“I’m a batter who wants to dominate. But when I was seeing on the other side how he’s bowling and even to me as well, it seems like he had a plan and he was just executing it.”

Attention turns to the Ashes for Josh Hazlewood after superb spell of 3/13

Hazlewood will now leave the Australian T20I squad to prepare for the Ashes. Fans on social media are also looking ahead to the Ashes, wondering how the England batsmen will cope with Hazlewood in such form.

The five-match Test series is expected to be played on some lively pitches, as has been the case in recent Australian summers. With Hazlewood so consistent and question marks around the England batting lineup’s ability to deal with the moving ball, it promises to make for fascinating viewing.

“He’s been immense, and looks at peak fitness. Think he could be in for an all-timer Ashes,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).

“The way poms bat England has no chance in this Ashes in Australia”, wrote another.

Hazlewood will play one Sheffield Shield match before the Ashes, according to cricket.com.au. “This year I’m going to miss a couple of T20s to do that. Which I certainly don’t like doing, missing games for Australia,” he said earlier in October.

“But in the long run it is about getting the best prep for the Ashes as well. You can’t have everything and that’s the trade off at the moment.”

The first Ashes Test begins on November 21 at Perth’s Optus Stadium.

AUS vs IND 3rd T20 2025 Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report

Australia took a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series courtesy of a comprehensive victory at the MCG. Set up by the fast bowlers – in particular Josh Hazlewood – Australia were too good for an Indian lineup that struggled to cope with the bounce.

Only Abhishek Sharma stood up for India, and he faced just 37 balls by the time he was dismissed in the 19th over. The visitors need partnerships this time around – the kind that Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav put on in Canberra before rain had the final say.

For Australia, they will be without Josh Hazlewood (see below), so it’s an opportunity for others to step up. Also, Glenn Maxwell is a chance of returning, and he will provide additional power to this already-strong batting lineup.

Victory for Australia will mean they cannot lose this five-match series. India must win to keep their hopes of a series victory alive. A cracking match is in store at the picturesque Bellerive Oval.

AUS vs IND 3rd T20 Possible Playing XIs

There will be a few changes for Australia. Josh Hazlewood is not available for this match as he will now prepare for the Ashes. However, Glenn Maxwell is back and available for selection after fracturing his forearm in the recent New Zealand tour. However, he has to pass a fitness test, as he confirmed on ABC radio commentary during the second T20I.

For details on Australia’s squad changes during this T20I series, check out our dedicated article.

Australia: 1. Mitchell Marsh (c), 2. Travis Head, 3. Josh Inglis (wk), 4. Tim David, 5. Mitch Owen, 6. Glenn Maxwell/Matt Short, 7. Marcus Stoinis, 8. Sean Abbott, 9. Xavier Bartlett, 10. Nathan Ellis, 11. Matt Kuhnemann

India shifted their batting order in the MCG T20I. It didn’t go to plan as they were bowled out for just 125. Here, they could look to play Tilak Varma in his preferred number three position.

India: 1. Abhishek Sharma, 2. Shubman Gill, 3. Tilak Varma, 4. Suryakumar Yadav (c), 5. Sanju Samson (wk), 6. Axar Patel, 7. Shivam Dube/Rinku Singh, 8. Harshit Rana, 9. Varun Chakravarthy, 10. Kuldeep Yadav/Arshdeep Singh, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

Fantasy Cricket Tips for AUS vs IND 3rd T20: Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Top wicket-keeper picks:

  • Both wicket-keepers batted at three in the MCG T20I, but Josh Inglis is a greater chance of batting there in this game. Inglis spent some time in the middle on his return to the crease at the MCG.
  • Batting at three this year, Inglis has scored 408 runs in all T20s at an average of 34 and strike rate of 183.8.

Key batter picks:

  • Abhishek Sharma played a lone hand in the MCG defeat. His 37-ball 68 was full of the typical Abhishek class. In all T20s this year, the left-hander has belted 1,119 runs (avg. 41.4) at a remarkable strike rate of 199.1.
  • Abhishek looks an excellent Dream11 captaincy choice in this game. Australia won’t be playing a left-arm seamer (Sharma has been dismissed six times in 74 balls against this bowling type this year). Also, Hazlewood is not available.
  • Mitchell Marsh continued his magnificent 2025 in the MCG T20I. His 26-ball 46 included two fours and four sixes, and he looked comfortable against both pace and spin. The Australian captain has 1,040 runs in all T20s this year (avg. 44.3, SR 164.3).
  • Shubman Gill is having a quiet year in T20Is, with 169 runs at an average of 24.1 (SR 148.2). On a good batting pitch and Hazlewood-less attack, this is a good opportunity for Gill to score.

Top all-rounder picks:

  • Axar Patel didn’t bowl at the MCG, but he is worth a pick here as he bats in the top six. Also, pick Axar if India play with one other spinner (Varun or Kuldeep). Overall, he has 15 wickets in nine matches at an average of 13.86 and strike rate of 13.20 against Australia.
  • If picked, can Glenn Maxwell fire right away? He is capable. The all-rounder played a gem in his last T20I (against South Africa) and has the second-most runs in AUS-IND T20Is: 574, avg. 31.88, SR 152.25. Also, Maxwell can contribute with the ball and fields in the hotspot positions, which can translate to fantasy cricket points.

Key bowler picks:

  • Jasprit Bumrah looked in fine touch in the second T20I at the MCG. He now has 19 wickets against Australia in T20Is at an average of 22.63 and strike rate of 17.21. Bumrah also has a very dominant record against Glenn Maxwell (see below).
  • Nathan Ellis has the second-most wickets in T20s on this ground (42). He averages 21.48 with a strike rate of 16.79. However, Ellis is typically a defensive bowler, so keep this in mind for fantasy cricket.

Other Players to Consider for your Fantasy Cricket Teams

  • Travis Head has three 20+ scores in India’s tour of Australia. Can he go on with a start here? Good batting conditions are expected and Head can cash in.
  • Suryakumar Yadav, who has had a poor year in T20Is to date, can also benefit from a Hazlewood-less attack. SKY enjoys batting in Australia, with 279 runs at an average of 55.80 and strike rate of 181.16.
  • Tim David bats at number four and has plenty of experience on this ground. In 26 innings, he has scored 577 runs at an average of 44.38 and strike rate of 170.71.
  • Tilak Varma scored the second-most runs for India in the 2025 Asia Cup: 6 inns, 213 runs, avg. 71.00, SR 131.48. Logic says he should bat in the top three or four, but time will tell.
  • Varun Chakravarthy bowled nicely at the MCG. He’s had the better of Travis Head this year (CT semi-final and 2nd T20I). Spinners are usually more economical in Hobart and Chakravarthy is capable of taking wickets.
  • Xavier Bartlett continues to take wickets for Australia. He is worth considering for your fantasy teams as he has 33 wickets in all T20s this year at a strike rate of 15.84.

Other Stats and Important Matchups

  • Head-to-head in T20Is: Matches 34, Australia 12, India 20, N/R 2.
  • Australia are aiming for their first home T20I series win against India since 2008.
  • Mitch Owen has an outstanding record at this ground: 8 inns, 352 runs, avg. 50.29, SR 200.
  • Jasprit Bumrah vs Glenn Maxwell in all T20s: 65 balls, 75 runs, seven wickets.
  • Marcus Stoinis vs Sanju Samson in all T20s: 21 balls, 27 runs, two wickets.
  • Axar Patel vs Marcus Stoinis in all T20s: 40 balls, 23 runs, four wickets.

The chasing team is likelier to win. However, I’m expecting India to bounce back given there will be some changes to Australia’s team.

Bellerive Oval Hobart weather forecast for 3rd AUS vs IND T20I

The picturesque Bellerive Oval in Hobart hosts an important T20I in the context of the Australia-India series. Match one was washed out in Canberra, before the second match in Melbourne thankfully went ahead uninterrupted after rain during the day.

This will be India’s first-ever T20I at this ground. Australia played two T20Is in Hobart in 2024, beating West Indies and Pakistan. So, what does the Hobart weather have in store on Sunday? Here is a look at the forecast.

Hobart weather for AUS vs IND 3rd T20I: Warm day forecast

The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts a top of 27 degrees for Hobart. However, there is a medium chance of showers later in the day, but it hopefully won’t be enough to threaten the match.

“Mostly sunny day. Medium chance of showers, most likely at night,” reads the forecast. “Winds north to northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h tending north to northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h in the morning then turning northwesterly in the late afternoon.”

A look at the weather forecast at Bellerive Oval in Hobart for the 3rd AUS vs IND T20I to be played on Sunday October 31, 2025.

AccuWeather forecasts a “mostly cloudy and warmer” day with a top of 26 degrees. In good news, the platform predicts no rain to fall with cloudy conditions during the match hours. This may potentially limit the amount of dew in the second innings.

Chasing is the way to go in T20s on this ground. The team batting second won five of the seven men’s BBL games last season.

The 3rd Australia-India T20I begins at 7:15pm local time. Expect the captain who wins the toss to choose to bowl.

Australia predicted 11 for the 1st Ashes Test in Perth

Australia’s team for the Ashes has been a hot topic of debate in recent months. Who should open with Usman Khawaja? Should Khawaja be picked at all given his struggles against pace in recent years? Who bats three? Is there room for both Cameron Green and Beau Webster?

The current Australian management have often prioritised playing who they perceive to be the best six batsmen in the country. It looks very likely this will be the case again for the first Ashes Test in Perth.

Predicted Australia 11 for the opening Test of the 2025/26 Ashes series

Note: This article is based on the 11 I think Australia will select for the first Ashes Test. Here’s my ideal team.

Openers: Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne

According to Fox Sports, Marnus Labuschagne is set to open the batting alongside Usman Khawaja. However, Mitchell Marsh looms as a wildcard option for later in the series, as per CODE Sports.

Australia picked Labuschagne to open in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa. Although he missed out, it seems the Aussies are keen to try this combination again with a full series ahead.

It is widely expected that incumbent opener Sam Konstas will lose his spot to focus on domestic cricket. Also, the likes of Matt Renshaw and Jake Weatherald reportedly haven’t done enough to make the cut, despite the latter enjoying an excellent run of form since the start of last season.

Cricket News: Should Australia be concerned about Marnus Labuschagne’s away Test record? | What is Marnus Labuschagne's away record?
Australia predicted 11 for the 1st Ashes Test: Marnus Labuschagne is set to return as opener.

Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Travis Head

According to reporter and former cricketer Theo Doropoulos, Cameron Green will stay at number three. Steve Smith and Travis Head will bat at four and five.

Green has batted at three in four Tests so far. He struggled in the first couple of matches – including the WTC Final – but started to show more promising signs on difficult batting pitches in the second-half of the West Indies series.

Number six: Beau Webster

Beau Webster is set to retain his spot at number six. The all-rounder has already played some important knocks in his seven-match Test career on surfaces that have been conducive to bowling.

Cameron Green has only bowled four overs in top-level cricket since returning to action from a back injury. Webster’s inclusion will give Australia another bowling option.

Wicket-keeper: Alex Carey

A given. A series of this nature may require another important Alex Carey innings or two.

Bowlers: Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Scott Boland

Scott Boland will play after Pat Cummins was officially ruled out of the Perth Test. He will partner Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

The debatable selection is whether Nathan Lyon should play. However, the offspinner has a good record at Perth’s Optus Stadium, and his overspin and drop can serve as a weapon as the England batsmen will likely go after him.

Australia’s predicted 11 for the opening Ashes Test at Perth: 1. Usman Khawaja, 2. Marnus Labuschagne, 3. Cameron Green, 4. Steve Smith (c), 5. Travis Head, 6. Beau Webster, 7. Alex Carey (wk), 8. Mitchell Starc, 9. Nathan Lyon, 10. Josh Hazlewood, 11. Scott Boland.

IND-W vs AUS-W Twitter Reactions: India reach World Cup Final after highest run chase vs Australia

India have pulled off the highest run chase in women’s ODIs at the perfect time, knocking off champions Australia in one of the great wins. Chasing 339 for victory, India lost both their openers in the powerplay, before Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur and the middle order inspired a remarkable victory.

Jemimah, who thought she would be batting at five, played the innings of her life. Given India have lost so many close encounters in the past, Rodrigues had a mission of getting her team over the line. It is an incredible moment for a player who was dropped from the team earlier in the tournament.

“I thought I was going to bat at No. 5,” she said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “I was taking a shower and when the discussion was happening, I told them ‘let me know.’ Just five minutes before entering I learnt I would be at No. 3.”

“But I didn’t think about me. It was not for me to prove a point, it was just to win the match for India because we have always lost in crunch situations. So I wanted to stay till the end to take us through.”

Harmanpreet echoed similar thoughts. The captain combined with Jemimah for a 169-run stand after India lost both openers inside the powerplay. Smriti Mandhana’s wicket in particular looked a big turning point, but the clutch partnership put India in a great position to win.

“I am feeling very proud. I don’t have words to express myself. We have crossed that line which we have been working towards for a long time, we wanted to achieve this, and all the players have worked hard. We trusted each other, and I am proud of this team,” Harmanpreet said after she scored a crucial 89, as quoted by CricToday.

Rodrigues hit 14 fours, while Harmanpreet struck 10 fours and two sixes. Strike rotation was vital in ensuring the asking rate didn’t spiral out of control. Under pressure, India held their nerve better than the Australians, who crucially dropped some simple chances.

It set the platform for Deepti Sharma (24 off 17), Richa Ghosh (26 off 16) and Amanjot Kaur (15* off 8) to provide the all-important impact. The latter hit the winning runs, sparking huge celebrations (and tears) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

IND-W vs AUS-W Twitter Reactions: India pull off the highest run chase in women’s ODIs to reach World Cup Final

“It will surely be the greatest run chase in the history of women’s One Day Internationals,” said the great Ian Bishop on commentary. “Given the context of a women’s Cricket World Cup semi-final, and India have strolled across the line defeating the former champions, now we can say, Australia, who had been unbeaten until now.

“Victory by five wickets to tears of joy and passion. They are into the final of this World Cup, and there will be a new name on the trophy of the ICC Women’s World Cup in a few days’ time.”

India’s victory sparked huge reactions online. India fans were full of joy, while Australians were left stunned that they didn’t defend 338.

“To surpass a total of 338 versus AUS, in a WC SF, is just a mind-numbing achivement,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter). “This match could do to women’s cricket what 83 world cup did for men’s cricket,” wrote another.

Here are some of the reactions to an incredible Indian win.

Earlier, Phoebe Litchfield’s superb hundred led Australia’s strong start. Ellyse Perry and Ash Gardner then ensured Australia still finished with a strong total. However, it proved not enough.

India and South Africa will do battle at the same venue. There will be a brand new winner of the ODI World Cup, and it promises to be an incredible match.

AUS vs IND 2nd T20 2025 Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report

The spotlight is on the Melbourne weather ahead of the second T20I between Australia and India. A crowd of 90,000 is expected at the MCG, and if the weather allows, we could be in for a cracking evening of T20 cricket.

India sent a reminder of their T20 prowess in the action that was possible in Canberra on Wednesday. Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav took their time to get going, but once they found their rhythm, one wondered how the Australians would keep them quiet. Eventually, the rain intervened.

For Australia, they need to find ways to keep this strong Indian batting lineup as quiet as possible. Forcing them to hit to the very long square boundaries will be a key tactic. Also, how quickly Australia’s top order can score will also prove vital to the result.

AUS vs IND 2nd T20 2025 Possible Playing XIs

Both teams could field unchanged XIs given the limited action in the first T20I. This will be Josh Hazlewood’s final match of this series as he will leave the squad to prepare for the Ashes.

India could consider Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm pace bowler has dismissed Travis Head twice in 34 balls (51 runs) and Mitch Marsh thrice in 22 balls (39 runs) in T20s.

Australia: 1. Mitchell Marsh (c), 2. Travis Head, 3. Josh Inglis (wk), 4. Tim David, 5. Mitchell Owen, 6. Marcus Stoinis, 7. Josh Philippe, 8. Xavier Bartlett, 9. Nathan Ellis, 10. Matthew Kuhnemann, 11. Josh Hazlewood

India: 1. Abhishek Sharma, 2. Shubman Gill, 3. Suryakumar Yadav (c), 4. Tilak Varma, 5. Sanju Samson (wk), 6. Shivam Dube, 7. Axar Patel, 8. Harshit Rana, 9. Kuldeep Yadav, 10. Varun Chakravarthy, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

Melbourne Cricket Ground MCG Pitch Report and Weather

This will be the first T20I at the MCG since the 2022 T20 World Cup Final. In the 14 men’s BBL matches since, the average first innings score is 152.07 at a run rate of 7.82. Chasing teams won eight of these matches.

Fast bowlers have taken 94 wickets in this period at an average of 24.97 and economy of 8.08. Spinners have fared better, taking 55 wickets at a better average (24) and economy (6.88).

With the weather around, expect the captain who wins the toss to field in this second T20I. Rain is forecast during the day in Melbourne, but hopefully conditions should be fine in the evening.

Fantasy Cricket Tips for AUS vs IND 2nd T20: Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Top wicket-keeper picks:

  • Josh Inglis is a good pick in Dream11 given he will bat at three. In all T20s batting at three this year, Inglis has scored 388 runs (average 35.3, strike rate 192.1).

Key batter picks:

  • Again, Australia won’t field a left-arm seamer. Abhishek has been dismissed six times in 74 balls against left-arm pace in T20s this year. According to SPODA AI data, Abhishek has a 47.83% chance of crossing 30, which is the highest probability of any player.

  • Shubman Gill has had an indifferent year in T20Is, but looked to be finding form in Canberra. He has scored 164 runs at an average of 27.33 and strike rate of 157.69 in T20Is in 2025. Is this the day he makes another 30+ score at least? SPODA AI data gives a 32.14% probability.
  • Suryakumar Yadav, who has had a poor year in T20Is to date, found some form in the first T20I. SKY enjoys batting in Australia, with 278 runs at an average of 69.50 and strike rate of 185.33.

Top all-rounder picks:

  • Axar Patel has an excellent T20 record against Australia. The all-rounder 15 wickets in nine matches at an average of 13.86 and strike rate of 13.20, making him a solid pick in Dream11.

Key bowler picks:

  • Jasprit Bumrah against Australia’s lineup promises to make for great viewing. He has the most wickets in AUS-IND T20Is (17) at an average of 23.76 and strike rate of 17.82.
  • Josh Hazlewood is vital for Australia, especially against Abhishek. He has overall figures of 1/23 off 22 balls in T20s against Shubman Gill. However, he will be looking to improve on his T20I record vs India: 7 inns, 4 wickets, avg. 53.50, econ. 8.91.

Other Players to Consider for your Fantasy Cricket Teams

  • Marcus Stoinis has the second-most T20 runs at the MCG (1,239). He averages 33.49 with a strike rate of 135.26. Also, Stoinis will look to bowl slower deliveries into the surface and force batsmen to hit square, which could bring catching opportunities.
  • Sanju Samson is always a threat, but he was finding his feet in the middle order during the Asia Cup. He is worth a try in your Dream11 teams if India bat first.
  • Australia’s all-out approach means there can be an opportunity for Mitch Owen. He played beautifully in the second ODI against India and is striking at 162 in T20Is this year.
  • Tilak Varma scored the second-most runs for India in the 2025 Asia Cup: 6 inns, 213 runs, avg. 71.00, SR 131.48.

Other Stats and Important Matchups

  • Head-to-head in T20Is: Matches 33, Australia 11, India 20, N/R 2.
  • Australia have not won a home T20I series against India since 2008.
  • Abhishek Sharma has been dismissed by a slower delivery in the powerplay in the past two T20Is. This is a ploy Australia could look to implement again.
  • Marcus Stoinis has a good matchup against Sanju Samson in T20s: 21 balls, 27 runs, two wickets.
  • Jasprit Bumrah vs. Travis Head in all T20s: 37 balls, 47 runs, one wicket.
  • Josh Hazlewood vs. Abhishek Sharma in all T20s: 25 balls, 42 runs, one wicket.
  • Axar has an excellent record against Marcus Stoinis in all T20s: 40 balls, 23 runs, four wickets.

17-year-old Ben Austin passes away after he was struck by cricket ball in Melbourne

A 17-year-old boy has tragically passed away after he was struck on the neck by a cricket ball in Melbourne’s east earlier this week. He has been identified as Ben Austin of Ferntree Gully Cricket Club.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, Austin was facing balls thrown by a wanger ahead of a T20 match between Ferntree Gully and Eildon Park. This device is widely used to deliver balls to batters in practice sessions. The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 4:45pm.

“After it happened three or four players rushed to help and the rest of us gathered around about 40m away pretty much,’’ a witness said, as quoted by CODE Sports.

“Someone ran and grabbed a defib and an ambulance was there within maybe five or six minutes. Then there was fire brigade and police flying in left, right and centre.

“Everyone was just stunned, not really knowing what was happening and how serious it was, because at first it was like someone had been hit in the head. When they called for the defibrillator it was like, s***, this is much more serious. There were players from both teams who knew the boy, so both teams were concerned.’’

Ferntree Gully Cricket Club issues statement: 17 year old dies after struck by cricket ball

Austin was soon placed on life support. However, he tragically passed away yesterday (29th of October).

“We are absolutely devastated by the passing of Ben, and the impacts of his death will be felt by all in our cricket community,” wrote Ferntree Gully Cricket Club in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family – Jace, Tracey, Cooper & Zach, his extended family, his friends and to all of those who knew Ben and the joy that he brought.

“We ask you to please respect the privacy of Ben’s family during this time.”

Austin was an emerging all-rounder who made his debut with the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club in the First XI last season. He was described as a “star cricketer, great leader and an awesome young man who is respected and liked by all your teammates’’.

Austin’s death will also hit the Australian cricketing community hard. Nearly 11 years ago, Phil Hughes was struck on the neck and passed away two days later.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ben’s family, friends and the community in such a difficult time.

MCG Melbourne weather forecast for 2nd AUS vs IND T20I

Rain had the final say in the opening T20I between Australia and India. Persistent showers led to a no result with India very well placed at 97/1 after 9.4 overs at Manuka Oval.

In what has been an indifferent year in T20Is for Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav, both were finding rhythm before the weather took over. Gill finished unbeaten on 37 off 20 balls, while Suryakumar reached 39 off 24 balls.

Attention now turns to the second T20I in Melbourne on Friday, with hopes that the weather will allow for a full match.

Melbourne weather forecast for 2nd AUS vs IND T20I: Rain expected on Friday

Unfortunately, rain could play spoilsport again. The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts showers and a possible storm with 1-10mm expected on Friday.

“Cloudy. High chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon,” reads the forecast. “The chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and early evening. Light winds.”

AccuWeather forecasts 11.9mm of rain will fall during the day. However, the platform predicts the rain will pass by the evening. If this eventuates, it will allow for a full match which would be welcome relief for the sold out crowd at the MCG.

AccuWeather’s hourly forecast backs this up, with intermittent clouds at from 7pm through to midnight. The chance of precipitation in this period hovers around 20%.

Melbourne weather forecast for the 2nd AUS vs IND T20I on Friday October 31 - there is a chance of rain again

Both teams will be hoping the rain stays away as preparations ramp up for next year’s T20 World Cup. India are seeking to build on their incredible form in the last 20 months or so, winning 35 of their past 38 completed T20Is. As mentioned, they also enjoyed a strong start to the opening match of this series.

For Australia, they will take some learnings out of the washed out match in Canberra and look to start strongly in Melbourne, weather permitting.
