SL vs NZ 3rd T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11

SL vs NZ 3rd T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11. Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 3rd T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11 Prediction

No one could have possibly imagined that a T20I series could cause such a span of injuries that both sides have had to scramble for replacements.

Indeed, it is a real shame for Sri Lanka that the series is over. With the likes of Martin Guptill injured, Ross Taylor just about fit, Tom Bruce carrying a knock and Lockie Ferguson ruled out, they could have really fancied themselves to take the series, despite their own injury worries. Instead, they will be fighting for pride, looking to avoid their fourth straight T20I loss at home: only once before have they lost so many in a row in their own den.

Key to a Sri Lanka win

Sri Lanka have had their moments. However, it is has been in the crunch periods where they have fallen short. Finishing was their strong suit in the opening T20I, but a let down in the following game, reaching 161/9 after being well-placed at 108/2 in the 14th over. In what has eluded them so often in limited overs cricket over the past four years, Sri Lanka need a complete batting display, beginning with more from Kusal Perera, who has underwhelmed in New Zealand’s tour. Can the likes of Avishka Fernando and Niroshan Dickwella build on their efforts from the last game, with the likes of Dasun Shanaka and Isuru Udana finishing well?

SL vs NZ 3rd T20I: Will Lasith Malinga have a better outing?

Also, one more high-performing bowler would have been enough to take out the first T20I. Akila Dananjaya, Lakshan Sandakan and Isuru Udana took 4/70 combined in 11 overs, which is significant when you have Lasith Malinga up your sleeve in a 160+ chase. However, the remaining bowlers couldn’t quite have the same impact, again putting onus on Sri Lanka’s ability to deliver as a unit in the field.

Key to a New Zealand win

Colin de Grandhomme has been outstanding for New Zealand in recent times. His strong form has held his side in good stead, delivering crucial middle order runs in the absence of Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor last game. However, can New Zealand get more out of their top order? Colin Munro, in his favoured format, is yet to fire, and there is no better time than a pressure-less third T20I to deliver. With players in good form in the middle order, a strong powerplay from New Zealand can be huge.

Also, Tim Southee has really warmed to the captaincy. His bowling in white-ball cricket has left a lot to be desired over the past 18 months, but this series has seen him find a new lease of life. With 4/38 in eight overs combined this series, the likes of Seth Rance and Scott Kuggeleijn – both in the wickets last time out – have a crucial role to play in supporting their captain and spinners.

Pitch and conditions

Rain is a possibility but the forecast of mostly cloudy makes a full game likely. Another even battle between bat and ball should be expected on a Pallekele surface that has had something in it for everyone.

Possible Playing 11

Kusal Mendis’ leg injury from his collision with Shehan Jayasuriya could even rule him out of the upcoming Pakistan tour. Jayasuriya is also likely to miss out through injury in this one. Also, pace bowling all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka could get the nod for a seamers’ position.

Sri Lanka: 1. Danushka Gunathilaka, 2. Kusal Perera (wk), 3. Avishka Fernando, 4. Niroshan Dickwella, 5. Dasun Shanaka, 6. Wanindu Hasaranga, 7. Isuru Udana, 8. Lahiru Madushanka 9. Akila Dananjaya, 10. Lasith Malinga (c), 11. Lakshan Sandakan

Martin Guptill is out for New Zealand. Tom Bruce is in doubt with his own leg knock. Hamish Rutherford has been flown in as cover should Tom Bruce fail a fitness test. However, Ross Taylor is set to go after missing the second T20I.

New Zealand: 1. Hamish Rutherford/Tom Bruce, 2. Colin Munro, 3. Tim Seifert (wk), 4. Colin de Grandhomme, 5. Ross Taylor, 6. Daryl Mitchell, 7. Mitchell Santner, 8. Scott Kuggeleijn, 9. Seth Rance, 10. Tim Southee (c), 11. Ish Sodhi

Stats and Facts

  • Lasith Malinga remains one away from 100 wickets in T20Is.
  • Ross Taylor batting at number five and six in T20Is: average: 38.18, strike rate: 131.39. His numbers are very similar in T20Is in Sri Lanka, averaging 39.28 and striking at 135.
  • Sri Lanka have now lost their past five T20Is to New Zealand.
  • Colin Munro’s longest streak without reaching 20 in T20Is is three matches. He is currently on a run of two. Big one coming?

Two closely fought matches makes this one difficult to predict, again. However, the likely absence of Kusal Mendis could be a big blow for Sri Lanka, coupled with New Zealand’s reliability in crunch moments.

Bangladesh vs Afghanistan Test Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11

Bangladesh vs Afghanistan Test Preview Dream & MyTeam11. BAN vs AFG Test Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11 Prediction

As pace headlined India’s big win in West Indies and continues to do so in the ongoing Ashes series, spin is expected to take centre stage in Chattogram.

One of international cricket’s fledgling rivalries reignites with the first ever Test between the two nations. Bangladesh are set to play their first Test since their difficult New Zealand tour, and their first home Test since beating West Indies 2-0 nearly a year ago. Afghanistan are set to play their third, after winning their last match against Ireland in March. With spin to play a key role, the toss could be crucial, as both sides possess fine spin options.

Who will take out bragging rights?

Key to a Bangladesh win

Bangladesh have enjoyed greater success in Tests in recent times, especially at home. The shift from flat pitches to turning ones over the past five years has benefited the home side, winning Tests against the likes of Australia, England and West Indies. However, Afghanistan have the spinners to cause problems, so patience and discipline – often missing in Bangladeshi Test batting – has to be on show in grinding the Afghans down. With Tamim Iqbal on leave, eyes will be on Bangladesh’s experienced stars, along with how well the youngsters, including Shadman Islam, can perform.

Also, it is likely Bangladesh will play four spinners, including Shakib. The Bangladesh skipper, along with Nayeem Islam, Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took all 40 wickets in two Tests against West Indies last year. The pressure they build up on Afghanistan’s batsmen will be key, testing their opponents’ patience. Will the spinners force Afghanistan into get-out-of-jail shots to release the pressure?

Bangladesh vs Afghanistan Test Preview Dream & MyTeam11. BAN vs AFG Test Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11 Prediction
Bangladesh vs Afghanistan Test: Shakib will be key as always.

Key to an Afghanistan win

Afghanistan’s first Test against India in 2018 was a huge learning curve. The spinners, including now skipper Rashid Khan, bowled as if it were a one day game, struggling to build any sort of continuity. As Bangladesh is a team that often looks to hit its way out of trouble, a focus on bowling tight lines with assistance from the pitch can hold Afghanistan in fine stead. Couple this with Afghanistan potentially playing three wristspinners, and their occasional variations can prove mighty effective. So, it is up to Rashid Khan to employ good attacking fields to new batsmen.

However, the big question is how Afghanistan’s batting will cope with Bangladesh’s battery of wily spinners. The uncapped Ibrahim was a standout in Afghanistan A’s tour of Bangladesh last month, with 482 runs including a century and three fifties. Also, Afghanistan do possess a middle order capable of occupying the crease, as shown at times in the recent World Cup. The likes of Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Nabi will be tasked with building partnerships and ensuring Bangladesh don’t get on a roll with quick wickets.

Bangladesh vs Afghanistan Test: Big test for Rashid Khan as captain.

Pitch and conditions

Unfortunately, rain is forecast on all five days in Chattogram. The high humidity is likely to cause a few thunderstorms, with play set to be interrupted throughout the Test. In regards to the pitch, it is expected to turn from early in the Test.

Possible Playing 11

Tamim Iqbal’s absence means Soumya Sarkar could partner Shadman Islam at the top. Shakib Al Hasan will skipper the side, but reluctantly. Bangladesh need a future plan in this area.

Bangladesh: 1. Soumya Sarkar, 2. Shadman Islam, 3. Mominul Haque, 4. Mushfiqur Rahim, 5. Shakib Al Hasan (c), 6. Mahmudullah, 7. Liton Das (wk), 8. Mehidy Hasan, 9. Taijul Islam, 10. Nayeem Hasan, 11. Abu Jayed

Mohammad Shahzad, Wafadar Momand and Waqar Salamkheil are unavailable in Bangladesh. They could be replaced by Ibrahim Zadran, Zahir Khan and Qais Ahmed. This will certainly be a big test for Rashid Khan, leading Afghanistan in just their third Test.

Afghanistan: 1. Ihsanullah, 2. Ibrahim Zadran, 3. Rahmat Shah, 4. Hashmatullah Shahidi, 5. Asghar Afghan, 6. Mohammad Nabi, 7. Ikram Alikhil (wk), 8. Rashid Khan (c), 9. Yamin Ahmadzai, 10. Qais Ahmed, 11. Zahir Khan

Stats and Facts

  • This Test will not count to the World Test Championship.
  • Mominul Haque in Chattogram: 15 innings, 1,001 runs, average: 83.42.
  • Taijul Islam needs one wicket to become the third Bangladeshi to achieve 100 Test wickets after Mohammad Rafique and Shakib Al Hasan.
  • Afghanistan won their last Test, vs Ireland back in March.

Match Prediction

If the weather is kind enough to allow a result, it could very well be that the team who bats first will win. Bangladesh lost heavily to Zimbabwe at home last year when asked to bat second, and I feel Afghanistan also need the security of a first innings score on a turning pitch.

Ashes 2019: England vs Australia 4th Test Preview Dream11

Ashes 2019: England vs Australia 4th Test Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11 Prediction. ENG vs AUS 4th Test Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11 Prediction

10 days have passed since one of the greatest Tests ever. Like the players, we as fans have had the chance to recoup, recover and reset for take four in an Ashes series already compared to the great 2005 series.

So, what on earth does Manchester have in store for us? England, courtesy of Ben Stokes, who is having one of the most incredible summers anyone can remember, are alive by the skin of their teeth. Their memorable win in Headingley was their first win in nine Ashes Tests, of which they hope will be a springboard for more success as they look to regain the Urn. They can certainly hope so, given they have not lost a Test at Old Trafford since 2001. Changes have been made, including one final attempt to help Jason Roy find his feet at Test level. Will England make it 2-1 with one Test to play?

Changes are also the case for Australia. Steve Smith, the best Test batsman in the world, is back, just as he returns to the number one ranking. His presence is huge, giving Australia that all-important resistance they still lacked in Headingley. Usman Khawaja, captain in Australia’s tour game in Derbyshire, has made way, placing pressure on Marcus Harris to ensure he performs. But, there is no pressure greater than that on Tim Paine, who was centre of Australia’s horror hour that meant the Ashes are still up for grabs. Australia still have two chances to retain it, but the time is now.

Key to an England win

“There is still ample time to get him out”, replied a determined Jofra Archer, after Steve Smith claimed he doesn’t quite have the wood over him yet. It sets us up for another riveting battle. A battle you’d want to fast forward time for, all part of an Ashes series that is simmering up beautifully. Indeed, the Archer-Smith battle will be key, but how England continue to expose Australia’s batting lineup will be just as important. It was Marnus Labuschagne who stood tallest in Headingley for Australia, and his form also makes him a crucial wicket. With inconsistency rife throughout Australia’s lineup – including the openers, England’s attack – that has a balance of control and fire, can look to pick up crucial little victories throughout the Test.

But, which England will show up with the bat? Will it be the one who folded for 67 all out? Or the one who dug in to achieve their highest ever successful fourth innings run chase in history? England’s commitment to wearing Australia down – the kind Joe Root wants to achieve again – will be vital as Australia continue with their four-man attack strategy. Joe Denly, now an opener, needs to combine well with Rory Burns who has batted for well over 500 balls this series. If Joe Root and Jason Roy can build on a good start, Ben Stokes becomes even more of a worry for Australia, along with the likes of Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow.

Key to an Australia win

Runs for Steve Smith are vital. Indeed, had it not been for Smith in the opening two Tests, Australia would have found themselves 2-0 down. However, this places onus on the others to deliver more. Marnus Labuschagne, with three consecutive half centuries, has been superb, but who else will put their hand up for the long haul? Who will be willing to withstand periods of sustained pressure, giving an hour or two to England’s bowlers when needed? David Warner did that on the opening day in Headingley, but his duck in the second dig made it five single figure scores in six innings this series. Marcus Harris, of whom the selectors decided to keep in the side ahead of Usman Khawaja, also has to repay the faith. Indeed, Australia’s batting recovery starts at the top, with the middle order tasked with outplaying England’s.

England vs Australia 4th Test: Steve Smith will be key again for Australia.

Also, the makeup of Australia’s bowling attack is still in the air. Will Mitchell Starc finally get a run? If so, he will be required to hit his straps straight away, placing pressure on England through pace. Australia’s bowlers, after dismissing England for 67 in Headingley, had periods of inconsistency in the second innings which ultimately cost them the match. How Australia fare with the new ball is key, and Josh Hazlewood in particular has been superb. Can Australia place immediate pressure on Joe Root and Jason Roy? How well will they stick to their guns when England’s middle order looks to get on top? Along with the seamers, Nathan Lyon has a crucial role to play after a tough final day at Headingley, on what is expected to be a dry Old Trafford pitch.

Pitch and conditions

The pitch at Old Trafford is said to be mostly free of grass, with a few little cracks. Surely, despite the overcast conditions, the team winning the toss would bat first to get the chance to bowl last on it. In terms of the weather, Friday looks most threatening in terms of rain, with a chance of afternoon showers on days one and two.

Possible Playing 11

England have named their XI. Craig Overton has come in for Chris Woakes, and Joe Denly and Jason Roy swap places.

England: 1. Rory Burns, 2. Joe Denly, 3. Joe Root (c), 4. Jason Roy, 5. Ben Stokes, 6. Jonny Bairstow (wk), 7. Jos Buttler, 8. Craig Overton, 9. Jofra Archer, 10. Stuart Broad, 11. Jack Leach

Australia have named their 12-man squad. Usman Khawaja has been dropped, and either Peter Siddle or Mitchell Starc will take the final spot.

Australia: 1. David Warner, 2. Marcus Harris, 3. Marnus Labuschagne, 4. Steven Smith, 5. Travis Head, 6. Matthew Wade, 7. Tim Paine (c & wk), 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Peter Siddle/Mitchell Starc, 10. Josh Hazlewood, 11. Nathan Lyon

Stats and Facts

  • England are unbeaten in Tests at Old Trafford since 2001 (11 Tests).
  • However, England’s last Ashes win at Old Trafford was in 1981.
  • Australia’s loss at Headingley was their first in Ashes cricket since 2015 (eight match unbeaten run).
  • No English ground has a higher scoring rate in Tests than Old Trafford in the past 10 years: 3.46.
  • Steve Smith and Pat Cummins are ranked number one batsman and bowler in Tests respectively. The last time Australia had both the number one batsman and bowler was in March 2006 (Ricky Ponting and Glenn McGrath).

Match Prediction

Weather is set to play a part, but not as much as Lord’s (hopefully). I predict there will be a result, and given it remains to be seen how Australia recover after the Headingley horror, England start favourites. Head says England in this one. Heart says Australia still have plenty going for them.

Jamaica. Take two in the series after a very one-sided first Test. What could we expect?

Well, what we got early was Sunil Gavaskar trying to speak like a Jamaican on commentary on the first morning. After a 318-run pummelling in the first Test, one might have had to wonder if that was to be the main highlight this match could provide.

West Indies v India 2nd Test Player Ratings: What a time to be alive.

Indeed, like the first match, superb individual achievements headlined the Test, with India winning very comfortably. Hanuma Vihari put to bed any questions about who should bat six, turning the attention of Rohit Sharma tragics to the opening slot instead. Jasprit Bumrah then produced another spell of magic, becoming the third India bowler to take a hat-trick in Test cricket.

For West Indies, joy was at a premium. Jason Holder and Kemar Roach led the way with fighting efforts right through the Test, and Rahkheem Cornwall held his own on debut.

This article will go through each player and rate them out of 10.

West Indies

Kraigg Brathwaite: Stop the press. Kraigg Brathwaite’s 10 might have stunned many in the first innings, comfortably the top scorer in the top five. However, when an opening batsman’s highlight is dismissing the opposition’s number nine who just smashed a half century, things don’t look very rosy. 2

Jason Campbell: Suited to the limited overs formats. You get the feeling Jason Campbell will offer too many chances in Test cricket. Like Jason Roy for England. 2

Darren Bravo: A real shame that Darren Bravo was victim of delayed concussion. He looked good in the second innings, but a big score wasn’t to be. 4

Shamarh Brooks: Excellent fight in the second innings gave his team and fans something to cheer about. However, his lackadaisical effort in getting back to his crease right after making 50 was like taking candy off a baby. 6

Roston Chase: Victim of Jasprit Bumrah’s hat-trick ball. To be fair, there was not much he could do about such an outstanding inswinger. His luck didn’t improve in the second dig, given out on a marginal LBW call. 3

Jason Holder: It was Jason Holder v India for a significant amount of the first two days. His superb five-for came at a cost, looking weary as he played a shot he’d never want to see again. All-in-all, he again showed why he’s rated the number one all-rounder in Tests right now. 9

Jermaine Blackwood: The second concussion replacement in Test history. Like the first – Marnus Labuschagne – Jermaine Blackwood showed fight that some of his teammates could learn from. 6

Shimron Hetmyer: One of those teammates is this guy. Four slips and a short extra cover were waiting for Shimron to play a loose drive in the second innings, after riding his luck in the first. He obliged, providing Ishant Sharma with a lovely little early Christmas gift. “Hetmyer needs some sense knocked into him” were the words on commentary. No one can disagree. 3

West Indies v India 2nd Test Player Ratings: Fair.

Jahmar Hamilton: Last minute debut for Jahmar Hamilton with Shai Hope ruled out through injury. He was pretty safe behind the stumps, but that’s where the joy ended. 3

Rahkeem Cornwall: West Indies need a good spinner in Test cricket, and they have one. Cornwall should have played in Antigua, and showed why with a consistent effort right throughout this Test on a pitch not offering too much turn. 6.5

Kemar Roach: Deserved many more wickets in the first innings after bowling his heart out. Roach picked up three second innings dismissals – including Virat Kohli first ball – but it was all too late for the Windies. 7

Shannon Gabriel: If bowling half-vollies was an Olympic sport, Shannon Gabriel would be the record Gold Medal holder. He struggled for consistency in the heat, which places emphasis on his fitness. 2

India

KL Rahul: His 63-ball six, when India started their second innings 299 ahead, shows Rahul is concerned about his spot in the side. Also, he needs to rectify his tendency of leaving the ball too late. After a series of missed opportunities, should India stick with KL Rahul? 2

Also read: India’s opening conundrum – what should they do with KL Rahul?

Mayank Agarwal: Promising first innings fifty. Like the case in Australia, though, Agarwal had the chance to go big. A solid outing, nonetheless. 6

Cheteshwar Pujara: More was expected of Cheteshwar Pujara after his magnificent series in Australia at the turn of the year. 4

Virat Kohli: India thumping West Indies might not grab the attention of other teams around the world. However, Kohli’s two dismissals showed where sides need to bowl to India’s great batsman – the coveted fourth stump line. He was cantering to a first innings century, before Holder got him with a beauty. A second innings duck is as rare as they come for India’s now most successful Test captain both overall and overseas. 7

Ajinkya Rahane: Loves the Windies, does Rahane. A very solid series that he will need to build on next month against South Africa at home, where he has not enjoyed the best of times in his Test career. 7

Hanuma Vihari: Normal people might like enjoying their favourite song on repeat. Me? I’d like to watch Hanuma Vihari’s straight drives on repeat. He dedicated his first Test century to his late father, which was a great touch along with justifying the selectors’ decision to pick him at six. His second innings fifty was icing on the cake. 10

West Indies v India 2nd Test Player Ratings: A great game for Vihari.

Rishabh Pant: Batted with great maturity on the opening evening, and it was a shame from India’s perspective he was out first ball on day two. Pant took some fine catches behind the stumps – the highlight being an inside edge off Rahkeem Cornwall, diving full length to his left to grasp it. 7

Ravindra Jadeja: Apart from giving fans and commentators near heart attacks with his front foot no balls, Jadeja had another solid outing. 7

Ishant Sharma: “We have an opening conundrum?” asked Ishant post match. “Put me there.” His first innings half century was the stuff of dreams, making the Windies pay for missing two golden run out opportunities. His controlled bowling once again highlighted how much he has improved in the past few years. 8

Mohammed Shami: Fell below Ishant Sharma in the batting order, and showed why with a duck. But, his 150 Test wickets indicate more the value he provides to this India team. 7

Jasprit Bumrah: Freak of nature. Need I say more? Yes, here. 10

Also read: An Aussie in awe of Jasprit Bumrah. What makes him so special?

So, there we have it. A very comprehensive win for India over West Indies once again, stretching their unbeaten run over the Caribbean men to 23 Tests, dating back to 2002. India now lead the World Test Championship table with 120 points, while the Windies are glad this series is over.

SL vs NZ 2nd T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11

SL vs NZ 2nd T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11. Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 2nd T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11 Prediction

Pallekele was rocking and the pitch was turning. Sri Lanka’s T20I fortunes, haunted by a lack of success in their past 10 matches, could just get the kick it needed in front of a bumper crowd. However, missed opportunities and big overs were costly, as New Zealand’s calmness came up trumps in a closely fought opening T20I.

The series is on the line for the home side, who need Lasith Malinga to lead from the front as the entrusted skipper just over a year out from the World T20. For New Zealand, a T20I series win to go with a Test win in foreign conditions might send them home quite satisfied.

Key to a Sri Lanka win

Sri Lanka did a lot of things right on Sunday. One was how they used Kusal Mendis, tasking him with opening the batting, where all five of his T20I fifties have now been scored from. Their finishing, courtesy of Dasun Shanaka and Isuru Udana, was of the highest order, lifting Sri Lanka to a very competitive 170+. This was without Kusal Perera or Avishka Fernando firing, which presents a world of opportunity for Sri Lanka in this match.

However, Sri Lanka’s bowling and fielding was a let down. Granted, the ball was slippery, but seasoned international cricketers should be able to execute better in key situations. Kasun Rajitha, if fortunate enough to get another chance, has to limit bowling both sides of the wicket. Dasun Shanaka, after juggling a catch to dismiss Martin Guptill, then dropped a crucial one off Ross Taylor. Lasith Malinga, who started so well, ended with 15 off the penultimate over to all but end the game. If the Sri Lankans are to level the series, they have to build better on good periods of play, given they had New Zealand in quite some trouble early in the chase on Sunday.

SL vs NZ 2nd T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11. Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 2nd T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11 Prediction
SL vs NZ 2nd T20I Preview: Malinga will be a threat again.

Key to a New Zealand win

It was vintage Ross Taylor. Powerful slog sweeps, delicate leg glances and high intensity batting gives New Zealand’s middle order a very steely look. As their middle order insurance, Taylor at five can give the top order – who were poor last time out – the freedom to go very hard right away. The question here, though, is whether the likes of Colin Munro can overcome the Malinga threat, and whether Martin Guptill and Tim Seifert can find greater fluency. With Colin de Grandhomme in fine touch, closely followed by the capable Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner, New Zealand can look to win all stages of the innings.

However, despite the victory, it was far from perfect for New Zealand. Lockie Ferguson’s thumb injury has reduced their squad to just 13, which means they might stick with Seth Rance. Rance, who went for 58 in four wicketless overs on Sunday, struggled to bowl in accordance with the conditions. With a team effort needed to stem Sri Lanka’s attacking lineup, New Zealand’s lesser experienced bowlers need to work well with their more experienced options, given the likes of Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner were excellent last time out.

SL vs NZ 2nd T20I Preview: Ross Taylor enjoys playing SL in T20Is.

Pitch and conditions

The Pallekele pitch had something in it for everyone on Sunday. Turn, some bounce for the seamers and big hitting were on the menu in an exciting contest. A similar pitch is expected in this one, with a rain threat looming, too. The team who wins the toss might want to bowl first, as bowling second looked challenging with the wet ball.

Possible Playing 11

Sri Lanka shouldn’t make too many changes. One they may make is Kasun Rajitha out for another seamer – perhaps Lahiru Kamara.

Sri Lanka: 1. Kusal Mendis, 2. Kusal Perera (wk), 3. Avishka Fernando, 4. Niroshan Dickwella, 5. Shehan Jayasuriya, 6. Dasun Shanaka, 7. Wanindu Hasaranga, 8. Isuru Udana, 9. Akila Dananjaya, 10. Lasith Malinga (c), 11. Kasun Rajitha/Lahiru Kamara

Lockie Ferguson’s injury means New Zealand might stick with Seth Rance after a tough outing. An option they do have is replacing the seamer with Todd Astle, but two legspinners in these conditions is risky.

New Zealand: 1. Martin Guptill, 2. Colin Munro, 3. Tim Seifert (wk), 4. Colin de Grandhomme, 5. Ross Taylor, 6. Daryl Mitchell, 7. Mitchell Santner, 8. Scott Kuggeleijn, 9. Seth Rance, 10. Tim Southee (c), 11. Ish Sodhi

Stats and Facts

  • Lasith Malinga is now the all-time leading wicket taker in T20Is. He is on 99 wickets.
  • Ross Taylor batting at number five and six in T20Is: average: 38.18, strike rate: 131.39. His numbers are very similar in T20Is in Sri Lanka, averaging 39.28 and striking at 135.
  • Sri Lanka have lost nine of their past 10 T20Is. They have also lost their past four to New Zealand.

Match Prediction

The first game was so difficult to predict. Indeed, it turned out to be a close match.

The second should also be a close one, with the chasing team perhaps to be favoured. New Zealand’s reliability might just pip Sri Lanka’s inconsistency again.

India’s opening conundrum: Do they stick with KL Rahul?

India’s opening conundrum: Do they stick with KL Rahul?

Written by Sparsh Telang. Twitter: @_cricketsparsh

Team India’s hiccups in Test cricket (overseas) begin from the very top of the order itself. The openers, who are given the task of providing the team with a solid start upfront, setting a firm foundation for the batsmen to come in subsequently, have failed abominably over the past 24 months.

The Rahul-Agarwal partnership

On paper, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul were the two talented openers expected to flourish this time around. Indeed, cricket is not played on paper, but on cricket pitches. And, when it is played on these pitches, the Indian openers have appeared rather anxious.

Having scored just 86 runs in five innings (including the Sydney Test) at an average of 17.20, Rahul and Agarwal in partnership have been deplorable. Although, opening the innings is not an easy assignment. The bowlers are fresh with the new-ball in hand, receiving some additional aid from the pitch. There is very little time for the batsmen to settle down, comprehend how the pitch is acting, and savvy the intentions of the bowler. There is a very little margin of error for openers in red-ball cricket, and that is what makes it more disappointing that KL Rahul hasn’t been able to convert his starts in the West Indies.

KL Rahul. India's opening conundrum: Do they stick with KL Rahul?
Will KL Rahul reach his potential?

However, KL Rahul could score 101 runs in his four stints at the crease, right as enraged fans want him to be thrown out of the team. On the other hand, Mayank Agarwal as well didn’t deliver as per our presupposition, as he could only manage 80 runs in four innings.

Albeit, unlike KL Rahul, Agarwal is just four Test matches old. He debuted in Australia, against a fiery bowling unit comprising Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, and had left a mark by scoring 195 runs at 65.00.

India’s opening conundrum: Mayank Agarwal couldn’t quite have the series expected of him in West Indies.

While Agarwal would surely be persisted with, the brouhaha for KL Rahul’s replacement has become even more clamorous, as the question arises – Who is Agarwal’s next opening partner?

Persist with KL Rahul: There have been enough promising signs

In my opinion, KL Rahul, who has four Test tons away from home, does have the potential and flair to survive in overseas conditions. Even though he didn’t score many runs in this series, in comparison to the series in England last year, Rahul appeared healthier with his footwork this time around. He is technically sound; is aware of where his off-stump lies and knows how to defend good deliveries right under his eyes, close to his body.

Rahul is merely 27 and has a lot of cricket up in front of him. If he makes a few adjustments to his game and dedicates himself like Virat Kohli did after 2014, he indubitably can thrive into a renowned all-time great Indian batsman.

Written by Sparsh Telang. Twitter: @_cricketsparsh

What makes Jasprit Bumrah so special?

What makes Jasprit Bumrah so special? A look at the pace bowling phenomenon that is Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah has it on a string. In Antigua, the first Test of India’s 2019 tour of West Indies, India’s premier bowler had the inswinger on point to the left handers. Just days later in Jamaica, he had the ball going the other way, with minimal change in action or body position.

Like Antigua, he’s too good for the West Indies batsmen. Poor John Campbell and Darren Bravo are caught behind the wicket having not done too much wrong. After Bravo is dismissed, it is pure chaos. The ball cannons into both Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase’s front pads. Most, including Bumrah, thought the hat-trick ball to Chase was heading down the legside. However, Virat Kohli decided to review with great effect, with Bumrah becoming the third Indian to take a Test hat-trick. In just his 12th Test.

This West Indies side will certainly not be the last team to fall victim to this man. A man who is still just 25 years of age. It can be easy to forget that Bumrah only entered the Test scene in January 2018, after bursting onto the scene as an excellent white-ball bowler in 2016. Since then, he has added such a dimension to India’s side that they have become a real threat on the road. India’s tour of West Indies has not made for competitive cricket, but can you blame the Windies with Bumrah in this sort of form?

So, what makes this guy so special? I will do my best to explain what makes this bowling phenomenon – part of a number of excellent fast bowlers going around in Test cricket – so brilliant.

What makes Jasprit Bumrah so special?

His incredible adaptability to the situation and conditions

Whatever the format, whatever the situation, Jasprit Bumrah always seems to come through with flying colours. Whether it is the nervy death overs of an IPL Final, India’s very tight World Cup win over Afghanistan or a Test match bowling spell, Bumrah has the tactical nous and skill to execute his plans according to what his team and the conditions require. If his team need yorkers, he can nail six in a row. Are hard lengths are the need of the hour on a slow pitch? He can deliver. If India need to tie batsmen down, Bumrah can provide relentless over after over on end. Any tight run chase or period of play requires an in-depth understanding of how many overs Bumrah has left, and how batsmen will go about trying to play him. What an asset for India to have.

Also read: Jasprit Bumrah is the world’s best bowler across formats

His pace surprised batsmen when he burst onto the scene. After all, his run-up and action are so unorthodox that no coach could have ever thought of instilling this technique into youngsters. But, it takes more than just pace to survive across formats. Bumrah has perfected things in such a short amount of time that he holds the mantle of India’s best ever fast bowler. It can be considered a big call as the likes of Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath were excellent bowlers for India, but Bumrah has had an impact that is unimaginable. In away Tests, where India have so often struggled, Bumrah has five-wicket hauls in South Africa, England, Australia and West Indies. This is in combination with 103 wickets in 58 ODIs at less than 4.50 an over and 51 wickets in 43 T20Is at less than seven an over.

Indeed, when he finally plays a Test in India, you can be sure he will bowl perfectly to the conditions, again.

Incredible thinker, to go with his skill and control

A sign of a great bowler is when they can get you out regularly without you having done much wrong. This applies to this West Indies side, of which their 2-1 win over England earlier in 2019 seems a distant memory. They have tried to play Bumrah late, but the late swing at pace leaves batsmen hoping the ball misses bat and edge, automatically putting them in survival mode. After all, how do you attack late swing on the perfect length at searing pace?

Jasprit Bumrah’s hat-trick was truly special. According to CricViz, each ball swung more than the one previous, which can make it very easy for the ball to miss both bat and stumps.

So, how did Bumrah ensure that more swing still brought about wickets? Answer: pitching the ball up fuller.

Darren Bravo was done in by a beautiful away swinger, just days after one of the most lethal in-swinging deliveries sent his off-stump cartwheeling back to Mumbai. Surely Bravo had that in mind, so was covering his off-stump as best he could. So, what did Bumrah do? Start one from middle, forcing Bravo to play, catching the edge of his blade. This was 7.1m from the stumps.

Then entered Shamarh Brooks, playing in just his second Test. Indeed, if Brooks is judged harshly on his debut series, it will be considered one of the great injustices. With Bumrah’s outswinger to the left-handers on a string, India’s pace phenomenon knew that the inswinger to the right-hander will need to be fuller to bring bowled or LBW into the equation. As the graphic by CricViz above shows, the same ball to Brooks as Bravo would have been hitting the right-hander too high, whilst going down the legside. So, Bumrah pitched the ball full, with his late swing accounting for both Brooks and Roston Chase to complete his hat-trick.

This was magnificent thinking. When you combine pure skill and cricketing brains, as Bumrah also regularly shows in white-ball cricket, you have a once-in-a-lifetime talent.

Humility to know he can improve, belief he can do it

Jasprit Bumrah’s unorthodox bowling style is not the only reason why he is not the typical fast bowler. Cricket is filled with instances of great fast bowlers yapping away. Dennis Lillee wouldn’t stop. Neither would Dale Steyn or the great West Indies pacers of yesteryear. The likes of Glenn McGrath, Mitchell Johnson and James Anderson would never shy away from the odd chat, too.

But, Bumrah just goes about his business. A true smiling assassin, he burst onto the scene in 2016, exceeding everyone’s expectations in terms of how far he could come in such a short space of time. Crucial to this has been his ability to constantly evolve his game. Apart from yorkers, hitting hard lengths and generating pace from flat surfaces – as was the case at the MCG in 2018, Bumrah has perfected an array of deliveries. From the subtlety of his slower ball to the threat of his newly-perfected out-swinger, Bumrah never settled for being as good as he was when he entered the scene. He always wanted to improve.

And it shows. With his natural angle coming into the right-hander, India and Bumrah knew that an out-swinger could be a game-changer. However, with it comes risk. What if it mucks up his action? What if it ruins his in-swinger? Such adjustments require belief, and Bumrah has it in spades.

Enjoy and cherish this man, India fans. He is your greatest ever fast bowler.

SL vs NZ 1st T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11

SL vs NZ 1st T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11. Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 1st T20I Preview Dream11 & MyTeam11 Prediction

Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne, after his side’s loss in the 2nd Test, criticised his side for confusing ‘freedom’ with swinging at every ball.

Now, Sri Lanka have the freedom to go big with the return of T20I Cricket. With the World T20 just over a year away, both they and New Zealand have the opportunity to fine tune their preparations, despite key players rested and different conditions to what will be encountered in Australia. This is a chance for players to stake a claim, and a big performance will hold them in a great stead.

Key to a Sri Lanka win

Sri Lanka have lost eight of their past nine T20Is. Their inconsistency in the format closely mirrors that of their ODI fortunes between the beginning of 2017 through to the World Cup. However, with the likes of Niroshan Dickwella, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka in their ranks, Sri Lanka have the talent to win all three stages of their batting innings. Can they overcome New Zealand’s mix of youth and experience?

Also, Sri Lanka have an opportunity to witness one of their favourite sons – Lasith Malinga – after his retirement from ODIs in July. He is set to play on in T20Is until next year’s World Cup, and Sri Lanka will want more of those lethal yorkers that slow scoring rates and pick up wickets. However, who will support him? Can the likes of Isuru Udana cause trouble on a Pallekele track likely to have some pace and bounce? Who will put their hand up as the spinners in home conditions?

SL vs NZ 1st T20I: Lasith Malinga is back in Sri Lanka colours.

Key to a New Zealand win

Colin Munro returns to his most favoured format. His 27-ball 48 in the recent tour match highlighted the danger he presents in T20s, and his battle with Lasith Malinga could be crucial to the result. A number of other players also have an opportunity to perform with Kane Williamson rested, including the likes of Tom Bruce and Tim Seifert, along with the experienced Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor.

Also, can Scott Kuggeleijn back up his 4/19 in the tour match? His ability to hit big down the order and bowl effective overs renders him a potentially excellent option for New Zealand going forward. A hard-hitting Sri Lanka lineup will be a good test for him, along with skipper Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson, of whom plenty still depends on, despite the good balance in New Zealand’s attack.

SL vs NZ 1st T20I: NZ had a good outing in the warm-up.

Pitch and conditions

The Pallekele track often provides some assistance to seamers, especially under lights. Also, there is a chance of thunderstorms, given the climate at this time of year.

Possible Playing 11

Sri Lanka will likely have to choose between two wristspinners – Wanindu Hasaranga and Lakshan Sandakan. Also, it remains to be seen if Kusal Mendis gets a run.

Sri Lanka: 1. Danushka Gunathilaka, 2. Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 3. Avishka Fernando, 4. Kusal Perera, 5. Shehan Jayasuriya, 6. Dasun Shanaka, 7. Wanindu Hasaranga, 8. Isuru Udana, 9. Lasith Malinga (c), 10. Kasun Rajitha, 11. Lahiru Kumara/Akila Dananjaya

New Zealand also have a wristspin conundrum. Ish Sodhi or Todd Astle?

New Zealand: 1. Martin Guptill, 2. Colin Munro, 3. Tim Seifert (wk), 4. Tom Bruce, 5. Ross Taylor, 6. Colin de Grandhomme, 7. Mitchell Santner, 8. Todd Astle/Ish Sodhi, 9. Tim Southee (c), 10. Seth Rance, 11. Lockie Ferguson

WI vs IND 2nd Test Preview MyTeam & Dream11. West Indies vs India 2nd Test Preview MyTeam11 & Dream11 Prediction

With an Ashes Test for the ages taking place in Headingley, something special needed to happen in Antigua to capture attention. The result certainly wasn’t as nail-biting as Ben Stokes’ heroics, but Jasprit Bumrah produced swing bowling that is worth the price of admission or staying up late at night to watch a fine bowler in action.

West Indies started the first Test well, but that is where the joy ended. They couldn’t take their chances, then punished by Ajinkya Rahane first up, before India’s seamers ran riot. Attention will be on whether the batsmen can inspire a fightback to get the Windies on the board in the World Test Championship, with another big test awaiting.

India were clinical. Apart from their shaky start on the first morning, they controlled the Antigua Test. Their pace attack certainly makes them a team to watch in the World Test Championship. With their middle order showing fine form, it is up to the top four to produce the complete performance in Kingston.

Key to a West Indies win

West Indies’ run drought at the top of the order has been their Achilles heel. Their bowling was central to their five wins in 2018 – the highest score by any side in those matches being England’s 246 in Barbados. West Indies’ batting average of 23.46 is only ahead of newcomers Ireland and Afghanistan, which puts onus on the top order to stand up. The likes of Kraigg Brathwaite and Darren Bravo possess the experience in the top four (that averages just 21.96 in Tests since 2018), with talent aplenty in the middle order. Can the Windies overcome the new ball and convert their stars as opposed to Antigua?

However, the Windies have positives to take out of their heavy loss in the first Test. Kemar Roach was superb – another episode in his magnificent run of form that has catapulted him alongside some bowling greats. Shannon Gabriel was outstanding up front in Antigua, and with Keemo Paul back, the Windies will be hoping for more control as opposed to Miguel Cummins. Can the Windies make inroads into India’s top order again, this time backed up by taking their chances to put further pressure on India’s middle order?

WI vs IND 2nd Test Preview MyTeam & Dream11. West Indies vs India 2nd Test Preview MyTeam11 & Dream11 Prediction
WI vs IND 2nd Test: What impact will Kemar Roach have?

Key to an India win

Jasprit Bumrah won significant praise from Windies’ legends. His 5/7 in Antigua saw him become the first bowler from Asia to take a five-wicket haul in South Africa, England, Australia and West Indies – another reason why he is arguably the best bowler in world cricket right now. He will be a handful again, and with Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami also in good touch, India will be seeking inroads into West Indies’ shaky top order.

Also, which opener will make a big step to cementing their spot? Mayank Agarwal suffered his first underwhelming Test match, and KL Rahul continued to waste starts. With Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel in good touch, another good test awaits the openers, with Cheteshwar Pujara also keen to get in the runs. With Ajinkya Rahane finding form after a lean couple of years and Hanuma Vihari justifying his selection, a strong start from India might be too much for the Windies to come back from.

WI vs IND 2nd Test: Will Kohli go big this time?

Pitch and conditions

There is a chance of some afternoon thunderstorms throughout the Test. Like Antigua, conditions are expected to be hot and humid. In relation to the pitch, Sabina Park usually has something in it for everyone – there has been a mix of low and big totals in the past three Tests at the venue. This includes India’s 500/9 in 2016. However, the pitch for this Test has plenty of grass on it, which can make bowling first an option.

Possible Playing 11

Keemo Paul is back, and could replace Miguel Cummins if the Windies choose not to pick specialist off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall. Also, Shane Dowrich is out again due to an ankle injury.

West Indies: 1. Kraigg Brathwaite, 2. John Campbell, 3. Shamarh Brooks, 4. Darren Bravo, 5. Shimron Hetmyer, 6. Shai Hope (wk), 7. Roston Chase, 8. Jason Holder, 9. Keemo Paul/Rahkeem Cornwall, 10. Kemar Roach, 11. Shannon Gabriel

India should stick with the same team that won the first Test easily.

India: 1. KL Rahul, 2. Mayank Agarwal, 3. Cheteshwar Pujara, 4. Virat Kohli (c), 5. Ajinkya Rahane, 6. Hanuma Vihari, 7. Rishabh Pant (wk), 8. Ravindra Jadeja, 9. Mohammed Shami, 10. Ishant Sharma, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

Stats and Facts

  • The last meeting between India and West Indies at Kingston ended in a draw. KL Rahul, Ajinkya Rahane and Roston Chase scored centuries.
  • Kemar Roach averages 26.95 in Test Cricket, better than the likes of Trent Boult, Morne Morkel, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Broad.
  • West Indies top four average 21.96 in Tests since 2018. Numbers 5-8 average 32.61 in the same period.
  • West Indies have not won a Test against India since 2002 (22 Tests).

Match Prediction

It is a big ask for West Indies to turn around such a big defeat. Their best bet is to bat first and get a score circa 300 to put pressure on India. Otherwise, India should win.

MyTeam11 vs Dream11

There are some crucial differences between MyTeam11 and Dream11. We will explore these in the following section. These can give you an idea of which platform you might prefer to play on a regular basis.

Key talking points

Regular vs Safe Play

The major difference between the two platforms is the deadline times.

In February 2019, Dream11 made the decision to move its deadline time from one hour before a match to its official start time. This was met with both praise and criticism. Those praising the decision believed there would be a more level playing field. Those against it argued that a key skill factor is removed, and teams might be too similar. Regardless of the differences in opinion, Dream11 went ahead with their big change and have stuck by it since.

Also read: Pros and cons of Dream11’s deadline time decision

MyTeam11, on the other hand, offers both “regular” and “safe” play. If you choose regular, the deadline time will be an hour (or 90 minutes) before play. The safe option has the deadline time at the start of the match. This caters for players who prefer either/or, rather than just the one option Dream11 provides, regardless of key audience interests.

Team Composition

Also in 2019, Dream11 made a decision where you have more flexibility in how you can create your XI. For example,

  • You can select up to four wicketkeepers in your XI. In MyTeam11, you can only select one.
  • You can pick anywhere between 3-6 batsmen in your XI. In MyTeam11, your limit is 3-5 batsmen. This is the same for bowlers.
  • You can pick anywhere between 1-4 allrounders in your XI. In myTeam11, your limit is 1-3 allrounders.

This was brought in place by Dream11 to increase the chances of more variety between different teams. Indeed, this could be a factor that helps you decide which platform you’d rather play.

Point scoring system

Each platform offers 2x points for your captain and 1.5x points for your vice-captain. Also, both Dream11 and MyTeam11 has different scoring for Test, ODI, T20 and T10.

Also, in September 2019, Dream11 made some key changes in its points scoring, doubling all previous points. For example, Dream11 now offers 1 point per run scored (previously 0.5), which is now the same as MyTeam11 (1 point per run). Also, Dream11 has now rewarded bowlers more for taking wickets, putting the platform close to MyTeam11 in this regard. For a breakdown in points scoring, the links are below:

Number of users

Dream11 has more users as it is a more established platform. This means competition is greater in smaller and grand leagues. MyTeam11 can be a good way to earn winnings, given that the number of users is currently lower than Dream11.

Verdict

Ultimately, your decision comes down to what you are after in a fantasy platform.

If you love regular play – where the deadline is before the toss – then MyTeam11 is a great option for you. This is also depending on whether you like the more traditional team composition, where you have one wicketkeeper, 3-5 batsmen, 1-3 all-rounders and 3-5 bowlers. However, if you love the team composition aspect of Dream11, along with its safe play, then it is still very easy to enjoy Dream11.
