Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 3rd ODI Preview Dream11

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 3rd ODI Preview Dream11. SL vs BAN 3rd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction 31st July 2019

A series highlighted by Lasith Malinga’s amazing farewell needed an excellent second ODI to capture worldwide attention. It wasn’t the case, with Bangladesh surrendering to hand Sri Lanka their first ODI series win at home in 44 months.

Indeed, it was the second straight clinical performance from Sri Lanka, who will now celebrate Nuwan Kulasekara’s career. Recent form is a welcome change from the very barren run since the beginning of 2017, where they had 12 wins from 54 completed ODIs at one point. The win against England in the World Cup has created a bit of spark, and they have the chance to continue the winning feeling.

On the other hand, one gets the feeling Tamim Iqbal won’t volunteer to be Bangladesh captain full time once Mashrafe Mortaza retires. The fill-in skipper has often looked overwhelmed, searching for ideas as he and his bowlers struggle for form. Can the Tigers turn it around and end this series on a high?

Key to a Sri Lanka win

Ripping through Bangladesh’s top order has been a key theme this series. No Lasith Malinga meant no problem for Dimuth Karunaratne’s men in the second ODI, scything through Bangladesh, held up only by Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The template is set for consistent bowling against a Bangladesh lineup susceptible to losing regular wickets in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, with the likes of Nuwan Pradeep, Akila Dananjaya and Isuru Udana tasked with inflicting more damage.

Also, how good was it to see Avishka Fernando in full flow? He wowed viewers with an array of drives and pulls that confirmed why he’s one player to watch after a superb World Cup campaign. With Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews also enjoying life against Bangladesh’s bowling, Sri Lanka can look forward to building another strong total.

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 3rd ODI: Avishka Fernando is playing beautifully.

Key to a Bangladesh win

Tamim Iqbal has been out bowled in his last six innings. His recent form has been a far cry from what he showed in 2018, where he was Bangladesh’s second leading run-scorer. If Bangladesh are to salvage pride, Tamim and Soumya Sarkar need to provide a strong start that the stuttering middle order can play off. With Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz all batting well, Bangladesh desperately need more from their top three and Mahmudullah.

“The way we bowled today, I doubt if even 300 would have been enough,” said Tamim after the second match. Mustafizur Rahman, despite his fine ODI record, needs to be delivering more in the early overs to get his side on the front foot. Also, this could be the time for Taskin Ahmed to be given a run, with the freedom to bowl as quickly as he can to create some impact for a side struggling. Early wickets are key to halt progress, and if Bangladesh continue to fall short in this area, another defeat likely awaits.

Pitch and Conditions

Scattered thunderstorms are forecast, but hopefully rain should have no say in this one. The pitch showed signs of slowness in the second ODI, and the pitch for this match could slow down as the game goes on.

Possible Playing 11

Sri Lanka could test some new players given that the series is over. One player they could give a chance to is Shehan Jayasuriya over Lahiru Thirimanne.

Sri Lanka: 1. Avishka Fernando, 2. Dimuth Karunaratne (c), 3. Kusal Perera, 4. Kusal Mendis (wk), 5. Angelo Mathews, 6. Shehan Jayasuriya, 7. Dhananjaya de Silva, 8. Isuru Udana, 9. Akila Dananjaya, 10. Lahiru Kamara, 11. Nuwan Pradeep

Bangladesh could give Taskin Ahmed a run given they have lost the series. Also, Anamul Haque could be in line for selection if Bangladesh want to give him some game time, with Mohammad Mithun failing to impress in this series to date.

Bangladesh: 1. Tamim Iqbal (c), 2. Soumya Sarkar, 3. Mohammad Mithun, 4. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5. Mahmudullah, 6. Sabbir Rahman, 7. Mosaddek Hossain, 8. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 9. Taijul Islam, 10. Taskin Ahmed/Shafiul Islam, 11. Mustafizur Rahman

Stats and Facts

  • Bangladesh have not finished winless in an ODI series in Asia since 2014.
  • Sri Lanka’s last ODI clean sweep (series of more than one game) was in June 2016 vs Ireland.
  • Mushfiqur Rahim became the third Bangladeshi to reach 6,000 ODI runs. Tamim Iqbal needs 110 to become the first to 7,000.

Match Prediction

Sri Lanka are well on top of Bangladesh in this series. They have outplayed them in all departments.

Bangladesh have the talent to put on a good display, but Sri Lanka are playing well enough to win again.

5 Ashes 2019 Predictions: Who will step up in the Ashes?

5 Ashes 2019 Predictions: Who will step up in the Ashes? Key players to watch out for in Ashes 2019

Test Cricket’s pinnacle event – The Ashes – is about to kick off for the 71st time since its inception in 1882.

This series is a difficult one to predict. After all, contests over the span of 137 years has Australia just ahead 33-32 in the head-to-head battle. Here, despite the home side enjoying success in an Ashes series on every occasion except one (2010/11) since 2001, both sides have reasons for and against lifting the coveted urn by the end of the five Tests.

I will explore each side’s strengths and weaknesses. Also, below are my five predictions for the big Test series, after thinking long and hard as to what might happen.

1. Leading run-scorer: Steve Smith (Australia)

There are a few contenders for this one. With both sides fragile in the batting department, much could rest on the big guns to deliver the goods in low-scoring battles.

Steve Smith finally returns to the Test format. 16 months since his last Test, Smith exited the game comfortably placed in the top three Test batsmen in the world, fresh off a very prolific 2017/18 Ashes campaign.

Here, he will be faced with a less-than-warm reception from the England crowds. Plenty of boos. Maybe even some more dressed in sandpaper. While this can be a distraction, it will only spur Smith on, coupled with his ability to bat for long periods that gives him an edge over other batsmen struggling to adjust after a big dose of white-ball cricket.

However, a concern for me is how Smith plays the seaming ball, given he opens up quite a bit to the ball moving away. But, he has enough fight in him to overcome periods of pressure. Also, a characteristic of seaming pitches is that there are good conditions for batting in the Test after the track settles, and it is in these instances where Smith’s hunger for runs can hold he and Australia in good stead. His patience is what could get him to outscore another leading contender in Joe Root, who continues to have an LBW issue. David Warner is also one to watch out for, but how he too handles the moving ball early will be key.

5 Ashes 2019 Predictions: Steve Smith will be out for a big series.

Leading wicket-taker: Jofra Archer (England)

Another very difficult pick. This is especially so given both sides will have to make adjustments and tough calls to cater for their best possible attacks, with a number of talented bowlers on show.

Australia possess Pat Cummins, the leading wicket-taker from the last Ashes. However, it remains to be seen if he can get the big wickets to go with his consistent bowling. The same applies to Nathan Lyon in more seamer-friendly conditions. Also, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc could have a say, but the former has been a bit short on cricket lately and the latter is not as prolific in red-ball cricket. This could open the door for the excellent James Pattinson, but will he get five Tests under his belt?

Then, onto England. Possessing a number of prolific bowlers in home conditions, England will be tough to handle throughout the series. James Anderson is a massive contender for leading wicket-taker, but his calf injury is a concern that might stop him from playing all five Tests as England might look to manage him. So too are Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes, who recently dismantled Ireland for 38 when hopes of a stunning Test upset were on the cards.

Jofra Archer is my pick. It is a bold call given that he has never played a Test (and misses the first), but the red-ball format is arguably his best – he has taken 131 wickets in 28 First Class matches at just 23.44. His pace and wicket-taking ability could be a key difference in this series, giving England a key dimension in their quest to regain the Ashes.

5 Ashes 2019 Predictions: Jofra Archer will be a big threat this series.

3. England will have to find another opening batting combination

Who would partner Alastair Cook was a big topic of conversation when Andrew Strauss retired in 2012. With Cook retired, both opening spots are now up for debate.

Jason Roy and Rory Burns became England’s 16th opening combination when they were picked to take the field in the recent Test against Ireland. However, evidence from that Test – as well as their careers – give the impression that England’s search for the perfect partnership will continue (P.S. this goes beyond number 11 Jack Leach showing everyone up).

Jason Roy pushes very hard at the ball well in front of his body. This is dangerous against the moving ball. His constant desire for bat on ball is an opportunity for the Australian new ball bowlers to exploit with early movement. Also, Rory Burns’ technique has come under scrutiny, with Michael Holding claiming on commentary that he is not sure if Burns has the technique to cut it at Test level. A candidate for LBW and caught behind, Burns needs to avoid getting his front pad too far across to off-stump too soon, as well as defending deliveries wide outside off-stump.

These technical problems create doubts over England’s openers to provide good starts. I believe England will be forced to try a new opening combination throughout the series.

5 Ashes 2019 Predictions: England are still searching for their perfect opening combination.

4. There won’t be a drawn match

Barring persistent rain that washes out two or three days, it is very difficult to see how any Test will finish in a draw. The pitch would have to be extremely flat; and even then, both teams’ bowling is stronger than their batting. Indeed, the biggest factor is the disappointing tendency for batsmen to hit out instead of fighting it out in challenging periods, offering the opportunity for wickets.

I expect every Test to have a result, as was the case in 2015, with low-scoring matches a key theme throughout the series.

5 Ashes 2019 Predictions: Who will step up in the Ashes? Key players to watch out for in Ashes 2019. Who will win the Ashes? Who will win Ashes 2019?
5 Ashes 2019 Predictions: The 2015 series had a result in each Test.

5. Series result: England 3-2 Australia

Another tough prediction. Do I go with head or heart? Can this Australian side become the first since 2001 to win an Ashes series in England? Sure, there have been better Australian sides who have been unsuccessful, but those were against better England sides, too. In the end, though, I think England at home will just edge it out.

This is not to say Australia don’t have their advantages. I think their top three is superior to England’s, and this is where they can get ahead. However, England’s middle order, which includes the likes of Ben Stokes (contender for man of the series) and Jos Buttler (and Sam Curran if they choose) has an edge over Australia’s. If Jonny Bairstow can’t find his Test groove, then England have the impressive Ben Foakes to call on. The bowling attacks are also close on paper, but in English conditions, England start as favourites due to their experience, know-how and the Jofra factor.

I don’t think it will be a blowout. I think it will finish 3-2 either way, but am leaning towards England. Australia’s top three, while better than England’s on paper, is still vulnerable against the moving ball. Indeed, so is England’s, but their middle-lower order can bail them out of trouble a little better than Australia’s can.

This could ultimately prove vital in the final analysis.

Women’s Ashes: ENGW vs AUSW 2nd T20I Preview Dream11

Women’s Ashes: ENGW vs AUSW 2nd T20I Preview Dream11 Prediction. England Women vs Australia Women 2nd T20I Preview

Preview written by Aaron Murphy

Is there anything Australia cannot do in this series? England’s unbeaten record at Chelmsford – having not lost any of their 14 international fixtures there – was well documented, but in the end entirely irrelevant. Australian captain Meg Lanning made an absolute mockery of the venue’s “fortress” status with a world record 133 from 63 balls.

Having dealt England their most embarrassing loss since the third ODI in Canterbury, they now move to Hove, where England have managed to win five of nine completed limited-overs fixtures, but just one of four in the shortest format. Their most recent T20I in Brighton saw them bowled out for just 87 – by Australia in the 2015 Ashes.

Key to an England win

The mismatch now seems to be at a point where England simply have to rely on Australia having a bad day with either bat or ball, with the Southern Stars evidently choosing not to relax in the first T20I despite having already retained the trophy. The post-mortem is already well underway, with the ECB backtracking on a potential decision to cancel women’s county cricket for now. Long-term improvement will need to come from the top: Australia have four times as many paid players as England, while the WBBL stands above the pack when it comes to professional domestic competitions.

For now, it comes down to the importance of individual performances: England remain the second-best nation in the world by a long way, thus it won’t be a matter of axing heads at the end of the series, but the likes of Amy Jones (5 runs, 69 runs @ 13.80), Heather Knight (5 inns, 53 runs @ 10.60) and Anya Shrubsole (5 mats, 5 wickets @ 50.60) need to spare themselves some embarrassment.

ENGW vs AUSW 2nd T20I: A passionate take on the first up defeat.

Key to an Australia win

The central advertising campaign for the last Ashes series in Australia has come to life. In an effort to build the profiles of star players, billboards across the country were tagged with the line “if [player A] doesn’t get you, [player B] will!”. Whether it be Alyssa Healy’s 66 or Delissa Kimmince’s 5/26 in Leicester, Elysse Perry’s 7/22 in Canterbury or her 192 runs in the Test, or Lanning’s 133no in Chelmsford, it has never appeared truer.

The Australians have demonstrated, by batting England into oblivion in the Test and by their dominant performance in the first T20I, that they are madly results-driven, even when success has already been achieved. Should this well-oiled and professional machine drop their shoulders, England will need to be ready to pounce.

ENGW vs AUSW 2nd T20I: It was an incredible knock by Meg Lanning.

Possible Playing 11

Sarah Taylor has withdrawn from the remainder of the series to battle with mental health issues, having also missed the 2016 World Twenty20: “Mental health is not something you ‘beat’. It’s a continual management process and at the moment I don’t feel in a good enough place to compete in international sport.” Fran Wilson has been drafted into the squad but, with Amy Jones having taken the gloves in the first T20I, is unlikely to make the XI.

Whether the teams treat the remaining two fixtures as dead rubbers and give some squad players more match practice remains to be seen – there have yet to have been any whispers at time of publication – so for now, we’ll assume they remain unchanged.

England: 1. Danielle Wyatt, 2. Amy Jones (wk), 3. Tammy Beaumont, 4. Nat Sciver, 5. Heather Knight (c), 6. Leah Winfield, 7. Katherine Brunt, 8. Anya Shrubsole, 9. Sophie Ecclestone, 10. Laura Marsh, 11. Kate Cross

Australia: 1. Alyssa Healy (wk), 2. Beth Mooney, 3. Meg Lanning (c), 4. Ash Gardner, 5. Ellyse Perry, 6. Rachael Haynes, 7. Sophie Molineux, 8. Jess Jonassen, 9. Georgia Wareham, 10. Delissa Kimmince, 11. Megan Schutt

Option 2:

ENGW vs AUSW 2nd T20I Preview Dream11

Stats and Facts

  • Beth Mooney has passed 25 in six of her last 11 T20I innings.
  • England have won ten of their last 11 home T20Is when batting first.
  • The average first innings score in T20Is at Hove is 129.

Match Prediction

Hard to see anything other than an Australia win given the way the entire series has played out. That said, a team with nothing to lose can often be a team to be wary of. If England can win the toss and bat first, they ought to play fearlessly and have the talent to set a difficult target.

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction. SL vs BAN 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction

The atmosphere was raucous. Colombo was in party mode. Lasith Malinga, one of Sri Lanka’s finest ever limited overs bowlers, got the fitting send off he deserved in his side’s huge 91-run win in the opening ODI.

But, there is the matter of a series to win for Sri Lanka. The challenge now is to refocus after a special day on Friday, tasked with replacing Malinga, who was too good for the Bangladeshi batsmen even though they knew what was coming. Before Malinga stole the show, Kusal Perera set the stage alight with a big batting effort, and another can propel Sri Lanka to their first ODI series win at home since 2015.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, had a day to forget. They assisted in boosting the party atmosphere with poor bowling and fielding, with Tamim Iqbal often looking overwhelmed in his first ODI as captain. His side managed to bring things back in the last 20 overs of Sri Lanka’s innings, but when Tamim was floored by a trademark Malinga yorker, the game was always heading in one direction. Can the Tigers now keep the series alive?

Key to a Sri Lanka win

That man Kusal Perera. Sri Lanka look a very dangerous side when he is in full flow, on show on Friday where Bangladesh had very few answers. Coming in at three, Sri Lanka would benefit greatly from a better outing by Avishka Fernando, who looked rather nervous first time out. With Bangladesh really struggling for penetration in the first half of ODI innings, a strong opening stand can make Kusal Perera even more dangerous. However, can the middle order bat with greater fluency this time around, after a struggle for boundaries at the death in the first match?

Also, Sri Lanka have small task of replacing Lasith Malinga. Such a task is not possible in one match, so how they bowl as a unit will be key. Tamim Iqbal, who will be striving for form, will be a key wicket up top, along with the top order who crumbled badly last time out. Nuwan Pradeep’s ability to nip the ball around and Lahiru Kamara’s pace can be disconcerting up top, but Sri Lanka need to pick up wickets regularly to reduce pressure at the death in the absence of Malinga.

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 2nd ODI: How will SL go with Malinga?

Key to a Bangladesh win

The absence of Shakib Al Hasan was felt with bat and ball. A lack of control with the ball, combined with a bad top order collapse with the bat had Bangladesh reeling, playing catch up for almost the entire match. Here, top order wickets are the need of the hour in a must-win match, which might require Bangladesh to call on Mustafizur Rahman earlier – it was not until Sri Lanka were 107 after 15 that Mustafizur was introduced on Friday. Can the Tigers remove the dangerous Kusal Perera early and get into Sri Lanka’s middle order?

Indeed, the absence of Malinga will be of relief to Bangladesh’s openers. Both Tamim and Soumya were castled on Friday, and both now have a key role to play in transferring the pressure to Sri Lanka with the series on the line. With Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman strong in the middle order (despite the latter’s anti-climatic dismissal as often the case), the Tigers desperately need a response from their top order to keep the series alive.

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 2nd ODI: Can Bangladesh deliver a better day for its fans?

Pitch and conditions

Like Friday, conditions will be hot and humid at the R Premadasa Stadium. There is a chance of showers, but they again could be avoided. The pitch is often a good one for batting, with Sri Lanka making 314 last game, with the previous five ODIs yielding a first innings average of 313.

Possible Playing 11

Who replaces Lasith Malinga for Sri Lanka? It could be Isuru Udana, who missed out last game. Also, Sri Lanka have questions to answer – is it worth persisting with Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne so close together in key positions? What about the misfiring Thisara Perera?

Sri Lanka: 1. Avishka Fernando, 2. Dimuth Karunaratne (c), 3. Kusal Perera, 4. Kusal Mendis, 5. Angelo Mathews, 6. Lahiru Thirimanne, 7. Dhananjaya de Silva, 8. Thisara Perera, 9. Isuru Udana/Kasun Rajitha, 10. Lahiru Kamara, 11. Nuwan Pradeep

Bangladesh, despite the defeat, could stick with the same team. One possible change could be Taskin Ahmed coming in for either Shafiul Islam or Rubel Hossain.

Bangladesh: 1. Tamim Iqbal (c), 2. Soumya Sarkar, 3. Mohammad Mithun, 4. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5. Mahmudullah, 6. Sabbir Rahman, 7. Mosaddek Hossain, 8. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 9. Shafiul Islam, 10. Mustafizur Rahman, 11. Rubel Hossain/Taskin Ahmed

  • Tamim Iqbal needs 129 runs to become the first Bangladesh batsman to reach 7,000 ODI runs.
  • Sri Lanka and Bangladesh played out a 1-1 series draw in 2017. Can Bangladesh level it up this time?

Can Sri Lanka quickly get back to full focus after such a great day on Friday?

I have the sneaky feeling Bangladesh will bounce back with the Malinga factor no longer the case in ODIs. This could very well be an interesting match.

Australia Ashes squad: 3 unlucky players who missed out

Australia Ashes squad: 3 unlucky players who missed out

Friday 9pm Sydney time was much awaited. After much deliberations, Australia’s squad – the one to try win an Ashes series in England for the first time since 2001 – was to be announced.

Australia named their Ashes squad on Friday.

There were surprises which, as always, led to talking points. I believe there are three players who are unlucky to miss out on the Ashes squad, and will cover them below.

1. Joe Burns

Joe Burns, the incumbent Test opener, is very unlucky to miss out on the squad altogether. This is especially so considering he scored 180 in his last Test (albeit against an attack that is not reflective of what Burns will face in England), along with 133 for Australia A a couple of weeks ago.

He averages 40 in 16 Tests. Sure, his big hundreds against New Zealand (on a good batting strip with a 200+ lead) and an inexperienced Sri Lanka side help, but he has every reason to feel aggrieved at missing out on an Ashes squad spot. Trevor Hohns echoed that thought, and has asked Burns to keep belting the door down/

Australia Ashes squad: Joe Burns is unlucky to miss out.

2. Kurtis Patterson

Another last-Test centurion. Kurtis Patterson made an excellent start to his Test career with runs against Sri Lanka, to go with a First Class batting average of over 40 in 67 matches. This kind of record is rare among Australian batsmen looking to break into the Test side, so leaving Patterson out would have been a tough call.

In the end, Matthew Wade’s form was too difficult to ignore. So too Mitchell Marsh’s potential and what he can do. Marnus Labuschagne too has had an excellent English summer so far, with his bowling the key factor in his selection over Patterson.

3. Alex Carey

Alex Carey is less unlucky than the previous two mentioned. However, he could have made the squad as a reserve wicket-keeper. His batting form has been superb, often getting Australia out of trouble in the recent World Cup. He was also one of the few batsmen to get a start on a very difficult pitch in the tour game.

In the end, the selectors felt white-ball form is not enough to win a spot in a Test squad where places are at a premium. While that is certainly fair enough, Carey will instead play for Sussex in the ongoing Vitality T20 Blast, which puts the onus on management to ensure he focuses enough on his red-ball game this summer if he is the man to replace Tim Paine as the Test keeper-batsman for Australia.

Much rests on the next six months in Alex Carey’s red-ball career.

Is there anyone else you feel was unlucky to miss out?

Women’s Ashes: ENGW vs AUSW 1st T20I Preview Dream11

Women’s Ashes 2019: ENGW vs AUSW 1st T20I Preview Dream11 Prediction. England Women vs Australia Women 1st T20I Preview Dream11

Written by Aaron Murphy

Flying high after retaining the Ashes once again, Australia play their first 20-over fixture since winning the last T20 World Cup in the Caribbean late last year. They defeated England in the final of that tournament – a match described by Australian captain Meg Lanning as “the most satisfying win I’ve been involved in”.

That statement may still ring true after the Test that sealed the series fizzled out to a bore draw and condemning the three T20I series to little more than match practice for the two teams. Nonetheless, a whitewash of the T20Is in favour of Australia would see them come out with the largest winning scoreline (14-2) in a points-based Ashes series and thus offers the girls in yellow plenty of incentive.

England’s best recent form comes in this shortest format: since Australia shattered their dreams in the T20 World Cup Final, they have gone on to win seven straight T20Is, and with huge margins too: three by five or more wickets and three by over 40 runs.

Key to an England win

Early wickets and their fielding! It might seem easier said than done, even blindingly obvious, but dismissing Australia’s openers cheaply should pay big dividends. Of the five occasions in which both Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney have failed to reach 20, Australia have won just once. On the only occasion in the last T20 WC when Australia were restricted to under 140, they were defeated resoundingly by India – whose bowlers managed to keep all but Ellyse Perry to 20 runs or fewer.

In all but one of their seven straight wins since the last T20 WC, England have dismantled the opening partnership for under 25 runs, so they should freshly remember how it is done – albeit against weaker batting opposition. Their game in the field has been substandard so far in this series, and with misfields and dropped catches more costly than ever in 20-over cricket, sharp improvement is vital.

ENGW vs AUSW 1st T20I: Can England’s bowlers tame Australia?

Key to an Australia win

Ellyse Perry’s performance with the ball. Arguably more important as a bowler due to Australia’s enviably deep batting lineup, Perry’s bowling performance plummeted dramatically in the Test: other than her first spell, she lacked consistency, incision and intelligence. When she fails to take a wicket, Australia’s T20I win rate is under 49% (17 of 35).

Not that, of course, she is the be-all and end-all of Australia’s bowling hopes, as demonstrated most recently in the T20 WC final when Gardner and Schutt combined for five of ten wickets. In this series, including tour matches, Australia have bagged an incredible 75 of 80 possible wickets!

Possible Playing 11

Essex’s Mady Villiers earned herself a call-up after a resolute half-century for England’s Academy side in a tour match and, given the “dead rubber” nature of the series, is likely to receive her cap at some point during the series if not immediately. A lack of drive and vigour from England’s top order may also see the return of power hitter Danielle Wyatt. Aussie T20 specialist Elyse Villani looks set for her first stint of the series.

England: 1. Danielle Wyatt, 2. Tammy Beaumont, 3. Amy Jones (wk), 4. Heather Knight (c), 5. Nat Sciver, 6. Leah Winfield, 7. Georgia Elwiss, 8. Anya Shrubsole, 9. Mady Villiers/Laura Marsh, 10. Sophie Ecclestone, 11. Katherine Brunt

  • Laura Marsh is conceding just 4.89 runs per over in T20Is since the last WC.
  • The average first innings score from eight T20Is at Chelmsford is 126 (155 when the team batting first wins).

Match Prediction

How on earth do England fight their way back into some form against this red-hot opposition? Australia have benefited greatly from an Australia A tour being run concurrently with The Ashes, with some depth players such as Villani hitting ideal form outside of the ODIs and Test. England certainly have the capability of winning any or all of these fixtures, but their fielding needs to be switched on and their mental game sharp.

4 ways you can repair your Cricket Bat

4 ways you can repair your Cricket Bat

Written by Mohan Raj

Don’t Forget Your Cricket Bat is Made of Wood!

Cricket bats are made of wood (soft wood at that!) and used to hit a hard ball. This naturally causes certain amount of wear, tear and even damage to the bat. Below are a few examples of damage caused to cricket bats, and how you can repair them so you get maximum value for your money. After all, good cricket bats are costly!

This article covers how your cricket bat can get damaged and how to repair it. A more detailed article on how to pick the best bats and bat care can be found here.

1.1. Damage Caused By Dampness

The toe end of the cricket bat is in contact with the ground all the time and suffers normal wear and tear. If the ground is wet, the toe end can absorb moisture and suffer more damage than usual. The wetness is absorbed by the wood and becomes heavy, losing the cushioning property to some extent. This makes it vulnerable when the ball is hit, causing it to splinter.

The bat face could also absorb moisture from the ball in the course of play. This will create scuffing on the surface of the bat that will lead the wood to peel off in layers.

A good grade “toe guard” can protect your bat from the moisture and prevents splintering. Bat faces and edges can be protected from moisture by applying protective tapes made of fiber.

1.2 Damage Caused By the Cricket Ball

Cricket balls are hard and have a seam. This naturally tends to impact the surface of the wood hard and cause some damage. A cricket ball can cause considerable damage to the surface of your cricket bat if it is not properly “seasoned” or “knocked in.”

The edges of the cricket bats are especially vulnerable. Yorkers cause severe damage to the toe end of the bat. Knock your bat in thoroughly to ensure the entire surface is done evenly. Play with old balls for a week or so to bring the bat to playing fitness. A proper toe guard can prevent splintering of the toe end. Also, applying protective tapes to the edges and face will protect it from damage.

Use a piece from another bat shave and fit it to the damaged bat. Use adhesives and binding in addition to vice clamps for holding the bat tightly and to apply pressure to the mended area. More here: https://youtu.be/vuQWGbtKkwY

2.4 Vertical Cracks

Use hard twine thread to bind the affected area horizontally while using a clamp to hold the area tightly and then apply adhesive to the bound area.

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 1st ODI Preview Dream11

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 1st ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction. SL vs BAN 1st ODI Preview Dream11 26th July 2019

A new era begins and one ends.

Life after the 2019 World Cup is here for Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. New players are in for an opportunity to impress, and so too are players who were left out of a World Cup squad. However, this ODI will be the great Lasith Malinga’s last, after announcing his retirement.

Can they send him out a winner? Indeed, Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign was better than most could have expected. Myself included. Impressive wins over England and West Indies created optimism for better times than what has been the case over the last two-and-a-half years.

Bangladesh, carried by the incredible Shakib Al Hasan in the World Cup, won’t have their star all-rounder available for this series. With skipper Mashrafe Mortaza also unavailable, can Tamim Iqbal lead his team to a win and spoil Malinga’s farewell?

Key to a Sri Lanka win

A shining light from Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign was Avishka Fernando. The 21-year old entered the scene midway through his side’s campaign, and impressed everyone with his timing and strokeplay. How he follows up his campaign will be key, with an opportunity to continue the momentum against a Bangladesh side that struggled for wickets in the opening 20 overs of recent World Cup matches. Sri Lanka will need a platform at the top, so Dimuth Karunatne and Kusal Perera will be key in creating momentum as they did vs Australia last month. Then, can the inconsistent middle order fire to produce a complete batting display – the kind so rare in the past few years?

Indeed, all eyes will be on Lasith Malinga. He and Angelo Mathews are two players who know well the winning feeling against Bangladesh, with Malinga on the losing side just three times in 14 ODIs. Can he wind back the years one final time? Who will assist in providing key middle overs wickets – the kind Sri Lanka have badly lacked? Akila Dananjaya, left out of the World Cup 2019 squad, will be asked to play that crucial role as Sri Lanka look to make inroads into a Shakib-less Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 1st ODI: Lasith Malinga – one of the greats.

Key to a Bangladesh win

Shakib Al Hasan was so outstanding in the World Cup that he had a strong case for Player of the Tournament. He was arguably first picked in the Team of the Tournament, producing a display that had Bangladesh in with a chance of qualifying for the Semi Finals. However, with him out of this series, much rests on Tamim Iqbal after a disappointing World Cup campaign. The skipper will be tasked with overcoming the Malinga threat early, providing calm for the likes of Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun to set a platform for the experienced middle order players.

Also, like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh have really struggled to take wickets in the early and middle overs. However, they return to the sub-continent where they have enjoyed success in recent years, backed by wickets in each of these two key stages. The loss of Mashrafe Mortaza in these conditions needs to be covered by Mustafizur Rahman, who picked up the bulk of his wickets at the death in the 2019 World Cup. Mehidy Hasan Miraz can be backed to build pressure in a country where he has enjoyed good times in the past. But, eyes will be on Taskin Ahmed, who now has to showcase the kind of bowler many expected him to be after a great start to his ODI career. Can Bangladesh make inroads into Sri Lanka’s batting early?

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh 1st ODI: Can Bangladesh deliver more good moments for fans?

Pitch and conditions

Hot, humid conditions will greet the players in Colombo. Afternoon showers are likely, with the rain then hopefully staying away in the evening. The pitch is usually a good one for batting, with the average first innings total a big 313 in the last five matches at the R Premadasa Stadium.

Possible Playing 11

Sri Lanka picked a big squad for this series, but should settle on an XI similar to their World Cup campaign, with Akila Dananjaya a chance to come in.

Sri Lanka: 1. Dimuth Karunaratne (c), 2. Kusal Perera (wk), 3. Avishka Fernando, 4. Kusal Mendis, 5. Angelo Mathews, 6. Dhananjaya De Silva, 7. Thisara Perera, 8. Isuru Udana, 9. Nuwan Pradeep, 10. Akila Dhananjaya, 11. Lasith Malinga

A few more changes for Bangladesh. Mohammad Mithun was excellent in the tour game, and is expected to bat at three. Liton Das is out, along with Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza, meaning the likes of Sabbir Rahman and Taskin Ahmed will get opportunities.

Bangladesh: 1. Tamim Iqbal (c), 2. Soumya Sarkar, 3. Mohammad Mithun, 4. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5. Mahmudullah, 6. Sabbir Rahman, 7. Mossadek Hossain 8. Mehidy Hasan, 9. Taskin Ahmed, 10. Mustafizur Rahman, 11. Rubel Hossain

Stats and Facts

  • Both sides have won three ODIs each in their last six meetings.
  • Tamim Iqbal is 129 away from 7,000 ODI runs. No Bangladesh batsman has reached that mark to date.
  • Bangladesh have never won an ODI at R Premadasa Stadium (eight attempts).
  • Lasith Malinga’s 226th ODI will be his last. He will finish his career as the third-highest wicket taker for Sri Lanka in ODIs.

Match Prediction

What a difficult match to predict.

Sri Lanka will be out to give Lasith Malinga a fitting farewell and Bangladesh have proven to be a tough beat in ODI Cricket over the past few years. Rain could have a say, so the toss is important, but with Shakib out for Bangladesh, Sri Lanka might have a slight edge.

England vs Ireland Test Preview Dream11

England vs Ireland Test Preview Dream11. ENG vs IRE Test Preview Dream11 Prediction

Test Cricket. Beautiful Test Cricket. After five long months of white-ball cricket – as much as your eyeballs can handle (including the greatest ODI of all-time), cricket’s oldest format makes a return at the Home of Cricket.

However, it might be as more of an adjustment for players than fans. England, recently crowned World Champions, will be tasked with getting straight into Test-mode after months of limited overs cricket. Jason Roy highlighted it perfectly, tweeting amid the celebrations that red-ball practice is needed, ahead of a four-day Test against opposition looking to make a big impression.

What an opportunity this is for Ireland. It can be argued that they haven’t always received the opportunities their cricket has warranted over the years. However, playing the first Test of an English summer is a great chance to impress, and they will come up against a side that has to make the significant shift from white-ball euphoria to red-ball grind. Can Ireland cause England significant problems?

Key to an England win

How well will England adjust to the Test format? There are quite a few new faces compared to the ODI side with the likes of Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler rested, so those who have been in the County circuit need to lead the way. Rory Burns, promising in West Indies earlier this year, needs to play a breakthrough innings in Test Cricket ahead of the Ashes. Jason Roy, a hero of England’s World Cup campaign, will also be key in making a mark in the longest format, and how he handles the moving ball will be interesting to see. Also, with England possessing a number of all-rounders, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow will be crucial in leading the way as the premier batsmen in the side.

Indeed, the change of format could have meant the return of England’s most successful bowling combination. However, James Anderson is set to be ruled out with a calf injury. So, Stuart Broad will be tasked with challenging Ireland’s batsmen up front. However, who will support him effectively? Chris Woakes had an excellent finish to the World Cup, but like the batsmen, must adapt well to the Test format. Then, Lewis Gregory, likely to be given a chance, will be tasked with replicating his County form alongside the likes of Sam Curran who was superb against India last year.

England vs Ireland Test Preview Dream11: Joe Root is back leading England.

Key to an Ireland win

The Irish have also had their fair share of white-ball cricket in recent months. Their last Test, in India against Afghanistan, was of significant contrast to what they will face at Lord’s. William Porterfield, Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie will be tasked with weathering the early movement to set things up for Ireland. Can they ensure Ireland are not two or three down too early in the absence of James Anderson? Then, can the likes of Kevin O’Brien in the middle build on it?

However, Ireland’s biggest opportunity lies with the ball. You get the feeling if they can handle their own with the bat, their bowlers have it in them to keep them in the contest. England’s line-up possesses both Test inexperience and a big dose of recent white-ball cricket. Can Tim Murtagh, so experienced in English conditions, crash the World Cup after-party? Will Boyd Rankin and the remaining bowlers bowl with the control required of them? England can’t afford to take this one lightly, as Ireland can pounce.

England vs Ireland Test Preview Dream11: William Porterfield and Kevin O’Brien are key.

Pitch and conditions

London is bracing for its hottest conditions in years. Mid-30 degrees will be the temperature throughout the Test, with some rain possible on Friday. The Lord’s pitch offered the most assistance to bowlers in the World Cup, and with some recent rain in London, the pitch will have something in it for the bowlers early. Not a bad toss to lose?

Possible Playing 11

England have confirmed their playing 11.

England: 1. Rory Burns, 2. Jason Roy, 3. Joe Denly, 4. Joe Root (c), 5. Jonny Bairstow (wk), 6. Moeen Ali, 7. Sam Curran, 8. Chris Woakes, 9. Stuart Broad, 10. Olly Stone, 11. Jack Leach

Ireland, like England, could look at playing bowling all-rounders down the order for batting cover.

Ireland: 1. William Porterfield (c), 2. Paul Stirling, 3. Andy Balbirnie, 4. James McCollum, 5. Kevin O’Brien, 6. Gary Wilson (wk), 7. Mark Adair, 8. Stuart Thompson, 9. George Dockrell, 10. Boyd Rankin, 11. Tim Murtagh

Stats and Facts

  • This will be the first Test match between England and Ireland.
  • England have not played a Test since February, where they picked up a consolation win vs West Indies.
  • Jason Roy and Rory Burns will be England’s 16th Test opening combination since Andrew Strauss retired in 2012.
  • Ireland pushed both Pakistan and Afghanistan at times in their only Tests, but ultimately fell short.

Match Prediction

It is great to have Test Cricket back.

Ireland will keen to make a great impression. If their batting holds up, we could be in for an interesting game. However, England, at home, will have a little too much in the locker (even though Anderson is out) with the likes of Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes keen to hit form ahead of the Ashes.

England face an unenviable uphill battle to save The Ashes: they must find just their second Test win in over a decade (W1, D3, L3 since) to remain any hope of rescuing their prospects of winning this series. The preparation since the end of the ODI series has been ideal, with key players enjoying plenty of exposure to the red ball in tour games.

Australia, regardless of the XI they will settle on, possess a bowling attack that will likely turn said uphill battle into a treacherous mountain climb – 141 of a potential 150 ODI wickets since the last 50-over World Cup is all you need to know to grasp the task that the hosts face on this occasion. Any forecasted rain will be more than welcomed by the Australians, given a draw is enough for them to retain the trophy.

Key to an England win

Sadly for England, this game could be lost at the coin toss, with some remarkable numbers to ponder: not only have just one of the last 13 Tests in England been won by the team to have had the coin land the wrong way (and that was England against a very weak South African opposition in 2003), but Australia have not lost a single Test after winning the coin toss in the last 85 years!

Should they be granted the opportunity to bat first, England’s top order have every reason to approach this game in a confident and fearless manner after a brutal domination of Australia A across the weekend: Australia A were able to claim just three wickets combined across two innings of 85 and 78 overs, with Amy Jones, Tammy Beaumont and Natalie Sciver all compiling unbeaten centuries before retiring. After a very lean ODI series, captain Heather Knight would also be pleased with two unbeaten scores in the sixties.

Women’s Ashes Test Preview Dream11: Can skipper Heather Knight inspire England?

Key to an Australia win

Ten first-innings wickets. Australia’s bowlers were able to make light work of a 14-player English Academy side that boasted ten players with international experience, ranging all the way from Freya Davies’ three T20Is against Sri Lanka, all the way up to Danielle Wyatt who is approaching her second decade of international cricket. Perhaps most pleasingly, five separate bowlers were able to snag two or more across the 240-run victory. With only a draw required in the grand scheme of things, bowling England out in their first dig should give them enough control to manufacture either of the two results that favour them.

With 16 of the last 23 Ashes Tests resulting in a draw, recent history suggests Australia have all the advantages going into this fixture: the incumbency of trophy holders, the potential for extended showers across the second and third days, and a potentially friendly wicket for ODI world number one bowler Megan Schutt who can’t wait to “bring the (red) ball back to life” as well as the feisty and quick Tayla Vlaeminck – the pick of the Aussie bowlers during the tour match against the Academy (match figures of 5/50).

Stats and Facts

  • Tammy Beaumont is one of just two players in the world to have compiled over 1000 ODI runs since the last 50-over World Cup in 2017.
  • The average first innings Test score in the UK this century is 233.
  • Just two of 14 tests played in the UK this decade have been won by the team to have lost the toss.

Match Prediction

Australia are flying high off the back of 12 consecutive ODI victories (just five short of their own world record of 17 from 1997-99) and, despite six uncapped Test players in their squad, have the right kind of selection headache.

Unfortunately, the weather might have a bit to say about this one. England will need to pull out an incredible performance to win in spite of any potential rain and an ODI whitewash.
