Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview Dream11

It’s second last vs first, but has the potential to be game of the tournament.

BBL08 desperately needs a high-quality thriller, and this has the potential to deliver, with perennial achievers Perth Scorchers taking on high-flying Hobart Hurricanes.

However, it has not been perennial achievement for Perth Scorchers in BBL08. They sit seventh with three wins, which is something not many could have predicted before the tournament. However, they have won their last two matches on the back of good performances, and with the table tight at the moment, the Scorchers have the chance to break into the top four. The Hurricanes will be tougher opposition than the Stars (without their ODI players) and Sixers, so will the Scorchers step up at a key stage of the tournament?

Hobart Hurricanes have had a magnificent season so far, sitting pretty on their own at the top of the BBL08 table. They swatted away Melbourne Stars with ease, but like the Scorchers, they face a tough test today. They also swept the Scorchers aside easily earlier in the campaign, and a fantastic opportunity awaits to all but lock in their spot in the BBL08 playoffs, leaving their opponents with an even bigger fight to make the top four.

Key to a Perth Scorchers win

Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner were superb against the Sixers, and will be key again against a firing Hurricanes attack. Those two are in good enough form to help the others bat around them and set up a competitive total against an opposition top order that has conquered most in BBL08. Bancroft and Turner against a strong attack are vital to whether the Scorchers can say they have turned a corner. This is a step up from the Stars and Sixers, and the Scorchers must put on a solid display, which includes strong contributions from the likes of Michael Klinger, Hilton Cartwright and David Willey.

Also, whether the Scorchers can overcome the Hurricanes’ top order, especially D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade, will be crucial to the result. Nathan Coulter-Nile and David Willey have more wickets in them than they have shown, and they will be crucial at the top to set a platform for AJ Tye and Usman Qadir, who have both been good in recent matches. With Jason Behrendhorff, Jhye Richardson and Ashton Agar unavailable, the Scorchers need a collaborative bowling effort that asks questions of the Hurricanes from all avenues.

Key to a Hobart Hurricanes win

Hobart Hurricanes possess a fine top order, which has had an impact in BBL08 thanks to the in-form openers. D’Arcy Short has continued on his fine BBL form from last season, and if he bats through to the latter part of the innings, the Hurricanes will be set for a strong total as he allows others to bat around him. Matthew Wade is one of those, who has also often ensured the Hurricanes get a strong start, which paves the way for Ben McDermott and George Bailey to capitalise. Will the Hurricanes overcome a Scorchers attack that will throw everything at them?

Also, expect the Hurricanes’ bowlers to enjoy conditions at Optus Stadium. The pitch has provided some pace and bounce in BBL08, which is perfect for Jofra Archer and Riley Meredith, who both extracted pace out of what is a slower pitch at the MCG a few nights back. These two will be key in targeting a Scorchers’ lineup that is only just finding its feet, with Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner two big targets. If the Hurricanes get the better of them, it will go a long way to victory.

Possible Playing 11

Ashton Agar is out of BBL08 with a fractured finger. Will Bosisto takes his place in the squad.

Perth Scorchers Possible Playing 11: 1. Michael Klinger, 2. Cameron Bancroft (wk), 3. Sam Whiteman, 4. Ashton Turner (c), 5. Hilton Cartwright, 6. Will Bosisto, 7. David Willey, 8. Nathan Coulter-Nile, 9. Matt Kelly, 10. Andrew Tye, 11. Usman Qadir

Hobart Hurricanes have made one change to their squad, with Jake Doran currently playing for Cricket Australia XI against Sri Lanka, where he has made an unbeaten century.

Hobart Hurricanes Possible Playing 11: 1. Matthew Wade (c & wk), 2. D’Arcy Short, 3. Alex Doolan, 4. Ben McDermott, 5. George Bailey, 6. Simon Milenko, 7. James Faulkner, 8. Johan Botha, 9. Jofra Archer, 10. Clive Rose, 11. Riley Meredith

Dream11 Prediction

Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview Dream11 Prediction
Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview Dream11 Prediction
  • Cameron Bancroft v Matthew Wade: Two in-form keeper batsmen. Cameron Bancroft gets the nod thanks to his super outstanding form in the past two matches. 59 against Melbourne Stars followed by 87* vs the Sixers.
  • Ashton Turner is one of the in-form batsmen in BBL Cricket, mustering 200 runs in his past four innings. He has hit 15 fours and eight sixes in this period.
  • D’Arcy Short is the competition’s leading run scorer. Like the Scorchers’ batsmen, he will likely face a tougher test against the Scorchers bowlers, but he is in terrific form. Offers a good deal with the ball, too.
  • Ashton Agar’s last three games vs Hobart Hurricanes (most recent first): 2/19, 2/14 and 1/22. However, he is out of BBL08 with a fractured finger, so Matt Kelly, who was impressive in the last match, takes his place.
  • James Faulkner has 10 wickets in BBL08, placing him in the top ten wicket takers.
  • AJ Tye has six wickets in his past two games, and is hitting his groove.
  • Riley Meredith is coming off four wickets in his last game, and might enjoy the pacy Perth conditions.
  • Nathan Coulter-Nile has gone wicketless in his past two matches, but took four wickets in his previous two games at Perth. He is worth persisting with.
Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview Dream11 prediction
Image Credit: Getty Images. Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview Dream11: David Willey is a player who has not stepped up in BBL08.

Stats and Facts

  • Hobart Hurricanes have won the past two meetings between the sides, after Perth Scorchers won the previous six.
  • Number of sixes in BBL08: Perth Scorchers 18, Hobart Hurricanes 40.
  • In four BBL matches at Perth Stadium, three have been won by the team chasing.

Match Prediction

I will hold my hand up and say that I did not expect Hobart Hurricanes to go this well. The positions on the points table should suggest that this will be a one-sided game, but the Scorchers will be very competitive in this one.

Will they have enough in them to win?

I originally said yes, but the loss of Ashton Agar is a big blow, given the balance he provides to the side. Hurricanes to win.

Melbourne Renegades vs Melbourne Stars Preview Dream11

Melbourne Renegades vs Melbourne Stars Preview Dream11

A thriller yesterday. Finally.

Now, the Australian ODI players are back for both sides for the Melbourne Derby tonight. Could we have two fantastic games in two nights in a BBL08 tournament that has lacked them?

This one indeed has all the ingredients for a fine game, but will the pitch at Marvel Stadium allow for good cricket? One can hope.

Melbourne Renegades once again highlighted the pattern of their BBL08 campaign, thrashing the Sydney Sixers mid-week. That too was after their own 101-run loss to Brisbane Heat, after they smashed Brisbane Heat by eight wickets just a few days earlier. Kane Richardson in his post-match interview at the SCG highlighted the need for greater consistency, and they have a fine chance to lay down a marker against a side that has its stars back.

No pun intended, that side is Melbourne Stars. They welcome back four of their Australian big guns, and boy do they need them after three straight heavy defeats. Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Peter Handscomb and Adam Zampa will be welcomed with open arms as the season starts to reach its business end, with all of seven teams still vying for three finals spots, given the Hobart Hurricanes are just about there. The Stars’ form was very impressive before their players went on Australian ODI duty, and now they have the chance to bounce back and get their season on track.

Key to a Melbourne Renegades win

At their best, the Renegades’ bowlers can rip through sides in this BBL08 tournament. They are the only team to beat Hobart Hurricanes so far, and dismantled both the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers, both of whom have good players in their lineups. The Renegades have been mostly effective at Marvel Stadium this season, and will need to be against a Stars side possessing a good batting lineup. Kane Richardson, leading wicket taker in BBL08, will be crucial, along with the likes of Harry Gurney, Dan Christian, Jack Wildermuth and Mohammad Nabi in keeping the Stars batsmen quiet. Can the Renegades pick up crucial wickets in the powerplay to pile the pressure on a Stars middle order that will aim to be aggressive?

Also, will this be the platform for Aaron Finch to find his best form? He has struggled in Australian colours this season, but his one BBL08 innings yielded 43 runs, which is the minimum kind of return the Renegades will be hoping for at the top. Tom Cooper is hitting form, and he and Cameron White will be key, along with Marcus Harris and Sam Webster who have both shown good form at times for the Renegades. If the Renegades’ top order can set a strong platform, they have the resources in Mohammad Nabi and Daniel Christian to take advantage.

Melbourne Renegades vs Melbourne Stars Preview Dream11: Can Tom Cooper continue his good form?

Key to a Melbourne Stars win

Melbourne Stars have the resources now to challenge any side in BBL08. Marcus Stoinis, in superb form before leaving for ODI duty, will be vital at the top in setting a strong platform for the Stars. The men in green in recent games have struggled for a full batting performance, either starting well and finishing poorly, or starting poorly and finishing well, so the onus is on the top six to ensure that they counter a Renegades attack that has largely enjoyed Marvel Stadium this season. Can the likes of Ben Dunk, Glenn Maxwell and Dwayne Bravo ensure a strong night for the Stars, ideally off a strong performance from Stoinis?

Also, the Stars need to believe they can target an inconsistent Renegades lineup. Aaron Finch is out of touch, and Marcus Harris will be keen for more runs, along with Cameron White who has largely struggled in BBL08. The key for the Stars will be powerplay wickets, which forces the likes of Mohammad Nabi and Daniel Christian to have to play rebuilding knocks to get the Renegades out of trouble. Can Marcus Stoinis also deliver with the ball? What about Adam Zampa after a decent showing in the third ODI? Can Dwayne Bravo put on an improved showing? With Liam Plunkett and Jackson Bird showing some wicket taking form in BBL08, a cohesive bowling effort is crucial for the Stars.

Melbourne Renegades vs Melbourne Stars Preview Dream11: Dwayne Bravo will be a key player

Possible Playing 11

Aaron Finch returns for Melbourne Renegades, replacing Beau Webster in the 13-man squad.

Melbourne Renegades Possible Playing 11: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. Marcus Harris, 3. Cameron White, 4. Sam Harper (wk), 5. Tom Cooper, 6. Mohammad Nabi, 7. Daniel Christian, 8. Jack Wildermuth, 9. Cameron Boyce, 10. Kane Richardson, 11. Harry Gurney

As mentioned, four of Melbourne Stars’ ODI players are back.

Melbourne Stars Possible Playing 11: 1. Marcus Stoinis, 2. Ben Dunk, 3. Nic Maddinson, 4. Glenn Maxwell (c), 5. Peter Handscomb (wk) 6. Dwayne Bravo, 7. Evan Gulbis, 8. Liam Plunkett, 9. Adam Zampa, 10. Tom O’Connell, 11. Jackson Bird

Dream11 Prediction

Melbourne Renegades vs Melbourne Stars Preview Dream11

Stats and Facts

  • Melbourne Stars beat Melbourne Renegades easily on New Years’ Day.
  • Stars have won nine of last 11 games vs Renegades.
  • Melbourne Renegades have won three of their past four matches.

Melbourne Stars, with their players back, look a good side.

I predict they will win this game and get back on track.

Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings

Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings

Australia let the trophy slip a little at the start of the series, plonking Glenn Maxwell at seven and thinking Nathan Lyon and Peter Siddle were the right options. Then, Maxwell just about dropped it.

Congratulations to India on another successful ODI series – their 10th success in 11 campaigns since the 2017 Champions Trophy. However, if we are honest, it was closer than anyone surely could have expected it to be, with Australia’s selectors picking an eyelash, making a wish and blowing it in the air hoping that some of their selections would pay off.

There is no doubt the effort was there for Australia. Luck wasn’t quite. But, at the end of the day, this is a side that is as comfortable in their ODI strategy as viewers watching Theresa May put together some ‘dance moves’. It was a very similar score at the 40-over mark in each of the three ODIs for Australia, with the main difference that Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell were needed to do a rebuilding job at the MCG, which had fans thinking that this side was just about screwed, with a two year wait for an ODI series set to continue. Thanks also to nervous moments with the ball and in the field, the wait indeed continues.

For India, MS Dhoni showed that this is his world, and we are all just living in it. Everything happens on his watch, with some fantastic support, this time from Kedar Jadhav. India know they can be a lot better, but that they have won in Australia without being at their best is cause for optimism. In a time where Hardik Pandya’s case is seemingly about to reach the Supreme Court or United Nations General Assembly, the need for a sixth bowler was proved in style in the decider by India.

In this piece, I will rate each player out of ten for the series. As always, feel free to leave a comment!

Australia

Aaron Finch: Someone call 911. Front pad and stumps under severe attack. Man, aged in his 30s, identifying as Australian captain, just lets a white ball demolish them. An awful series from Finch, who, even as Australian captain, is no certainty of a World Cup spot. Serious problems. 2

Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings
Image credit: AAP. Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings: A winless run wasn’t broken, but the stumps were.

Alex Carey: Another disappointment in this series. Now, even Carey, Vice-Captain of the side, is not a total certainty for England. He looks to be more suited to the lower order. His lowlight a pull shot in the second ODI that a number 11 would have even been disappointed with. 3

Usman Khawaja: Australia needed more from Usman Khawaja right throughout the summer. His Test series was under par, and despite three starts in the ODI series, he was far from his free-flowing best. That languid style looks good when you’re scoring, but when you’re not, you become known as the Mesut Ozil of cricket. 5

Shaun Marsh: Play Test cricket with a white ball and Shaun Marsh will surpass Donald Bradman. Loves the white ball game does Marsh, and it was a fantastic series form him. 224 runs in three matches. 8.5

Peter Handscomb: One of the positives for Australia in this series. Like Marsh, Handscomb looks at home in ODI cricket, scoring 151 runs at a strike rate of 103.42. 7.5

Marcus Stoinis: Threatened to do more. If Stoinis can improve his strike rotation at the start of his innings, he will be an even bigger asset than he already is. Disappointing bowling at the death in the deciding ODI. 6

Glenn Maxwell: Everyone knows Maxwell should be batting higher, except those selectors. Stuck at seven, everyone knows if he is out cheaply, Australia are not getting not much more on the board. Dropped the crucial catch of Dhoni in the decider (my grandmother could have caught it), after a good performance in the second ODI. 5

Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings
Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings: The trophy went down!

Jhye Richardson: One of Australia’s shining lights in the series. His coming of age, and can tell his grandkids he got the great Virat Kohli out three times in a single series. Figures of 6/112 across 30 overs in the series. Superb. 8

Adam Zampa: “Hey Adam, you showed some promising signs in the South Africa ODIs and the India T20Is, but we will pick a Test bowler in your place. Then, when he won’t take a wicket, we will throw you into the decider. Good luck.” Time for the selectors to treat Zampa a little better than they are. Just 34 off his ten overs kept Australia in the game. He gets a seven for his third ODI performance. 7

Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings
Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings: When Nathan Lyon gets a shot at India ahead of you.

Peter Siddle: Unfortunately, Australia couldn’t send Peter Siddle out as a winner in his final ODI, but the guard of honour was special! The Siddle experiment didn’t work, with just a single wicket across three matches. Looked mostly ineffective. If he’s on the plane to England as part of the World Cup squad, then that’ll do me. 3

Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings
Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings: Cricketers far and wide came along to thank Peter Siddle in his final ODI for Australia.

Billy Stanlake: Unlucky not to get the wicket of Virat Kohli. Bowled with good pace and intent in his only ODI of the series. Gets five for his third ODI performance. 5

Jason Behrendhorff: Series ended early due to a back injury, but promising start to his ODI career. Whether he can deliver at the death remains a question. 6

India

Rohit Sharma: The highlight a superb century at Sydney that had us in awe of his class in white ball cricket. Tried to repeat his ugly hoick from the Adelaide Test in the Adelaide ODI, and finished disappointingly in Melbourne. Still, a fine series. 8

Shikhar Dhawan: Certainly wouldn’t have India panicking as much as Australia are regarding Aaron Finch, but that was an under par series from Shikhar Dhawan. Still the second best opening batsman this series! 4

Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings
Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings: Great times for Finch and Carey

Virat Kohli: Bounced back well after a rare failure, with the highlight an unbelievable century at Adelaide. Kohli, given the perfectionist he is, would be slightly disappointed to get out twice in key moments. Still a solid series from a fine player. 7.5

MS Dhoni: Personally thanked Glenn Maxwell after the game for a dropped sitter. In all seriousness, there were signs of the vintage Dhoni in this series, and remember, he was only dismissed once. That was via LBW in Sydney, which pitched outside leg. His scoring rate in Sydney gave fans high blood pressure, and then had fans on the edge of their seats in Adelaide and Melbourne. However, he was cool as ice in warm conditions, even battling a groin injury as the series drew to a close. An excellent series for MS, making a case for that number four spot. With India backing him, four is his best spot. 8.5

Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings
Image credit: AP Photo/James Elsby. Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings: MS Dhoni delivered in both successful chases for India.

Kedar Jadhav: If you want to know what a street smart cricketer is, then look no further than Kedar Jadhav. He has commentators in a state of total shock every time he comes on to bowl. Has them in even more shock when it’s mighty effective. Followed up his bowling effort with a magnificent 61* that had Dhoni cruising and India fans shouting with joy. Crucial knock to get India home. He gets an 8.5 for his third ODI performance. 8.5

Vijay Shankar: Six overs for 23. Virat Kohli in heaven after the sight of Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammad Siraj going to all parts in the first two ODIs. 5

Ravindra Jadeja: Rarely a big wicket taker in ODIs, but hey, at least it’s not as barren for Jadeja as it is for Nathan Lyon and Peter Siddle. There was some superb fielding by Jadeja this series, including an amazing run out of Usman Khawaja in Adelaide. 6

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Forget Ariana Grande. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has dropped the latest big hit, grateful for Aaron Finch. Finished the series as leading wicket taker. Superb in Adelaide and Melbourne especially, enabling India to get off to strong starts, as well as restricting Australia at the death. 8.5

Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings
Australia vs India ODI Series Player Ratings: Bhuvneshwar Kumar is so grateful for Aaron Finch.

Mohammed Shami: Impressive series for Shami, partnering Bhuvi Kumar beautifully at the top of the innings. Finished with five wickets at an economy of just over five. Solid. 7

Yuzvendra Chahal: India constantly leaving Chahal out of the ODI side is like having a stylish, effective BMW and leaving it to dust in the garage. He absolutely tore Australia apart in the final ODI, with a focus on bowling great lengths, challenging Australia’s footwork on a turning pitch. He gets 10/10 for his third ODI performance. 10

Mohammad Siraj: You don’t choose the RCB life. The RCB life chooses you. 1

Khaleel Ahmed: RCB said to be keeping a close eye on Ahmed for IPL 2020. 1

Ambati Rayudu: Entered the series looking to further lock down the number four spot. Leaves Australia wondering if he will have that spot in the World Cup. A disappointing series from Rayudu, with his innings in Adelaide a bit of a pain to watch. 2

Kuldeep Yadav: Surprised to not see Kuldeep in Melbourne. Below his best, yes, but always class. Not his series, though. 3

Dinesh Karthik: Magnificent second ODI performance to get India home. Always tries hard when he gets a chance. 6.5

There we have it.

A series that was a lot closer than expected. I am still in disbelief that the series went to a decider, but India won the key moments, and deserved to win.

It caps off a fine tour for the Indians. For Australia, the wait for a series win in any format since the ball tampering incident remains.

Australia vs India 3rd ODI Preview Dream11

A decider. In a series between a side that hasn’t won an ODI series in two years against one that has won nine of its last 10 ODI assignments.

Surprised? You’re not alone.

Not surprised? You’re an optimist.

Or a pessimist, depending on which team you support.

One thing is for sure, though, is that the decider promises to be a good clash in what’s been an exciting, competitive series.

Australia were close to picking up a series win in Adelaide, where they were arguably favourites after Virat Kohli’s dismissal. Their attack on paper looked one quality ODI bowler short, and it proved to be the case, with a defeat in the final over after fighting till the end. Shaun Marsh has continued his magnificent form, which set Australia up for a big finish with the bat as was the case in Sydney, but the result didn’t go their way. Will they turn it around in Melbourne and win their first series in two years?

India, thanks to their big guns, kept the series alive. It was a fantastic run chase, which highlighted the importance of the top three, and that the middle order can add the icing on the cake. However, like Australia, India aren’t without their own concerns. Their bowling combinations were slightly off in Adelaide, and the Indians will need to be on point with their team selections and performance to finish what’s been a fine tour on an even bigger high.

Key to an Australia win

Given the numbers and how this series has panned out so far, Shaun Marsh is undoubtedly crucial to Australia’s chances. He was key in setting a platform in the first ODI, and was central to the batting effort in the second. However, Australia desperately need more from Alex Carey and the out of form Aaron Finch at the top to reduce the pressure on Australia’s 3-5, who must step up given the lack of batting nous after Glenn Maxwell. The Australians have made clear their plans to set up the innings for Stoinis and Maxwell, so Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb will also be key in producing partnerships to ensure their finishers aren’t in too early.

Also, can Australia get the better of at least two of India’s top three like they did in Sydney? Jhye Richardson will be crucial at the top with Jason Behrendhorff out with a back injury, given he has been Australia’s key wicket taker so far this series. However, just Richardson will not be enough for Australia, who need Peter Siddle and the incoming Billy Stanlake and Adam Zampa to deliver with the ball in a crunch game. Nathan Lyon has been dropped after not taking a wicket this series, in a move by the selectors that has thrown Adam Zampa into the fire. However, there is no time better than a decider for Zampa, along with Siddle, to show what they are made of in effectively supporting the frontline bowlers.

Australia vs India 3rd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
Image credit: Getty Images. Australia vs India 3rd ODI Preview Dream11: Aaron Finch continues to struggle.

Key to an India win

India’s top three, thanks to a strong opening stand and the brilliant Virat Kohli, set the tone for a good chase in Adelaide. These three will undoubtedly be key again, not only because they have delivered two-thirds of India’s ODI runs since the start of 2017, but because of the influence they have on India’s middle order. MS Dhoni was superb at the death, fighting brilliantly in the heat, along with Dinesh Karthik who was magnificent in keeping the score moving. They were enabled the freedom thanks to a strong platform. India, to win the series, will need another collaborative batting effort, with Kohli at the forefront, better shot selection at key times from Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, as well as better strike rotation from Ambati Rayudu, if picked.

Also, just as India require a collaborative batting effort, the same applies with the ball. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami have been brilliant in building the pressure on Australia earlier, but the change bowlers have undone the good work. Mohammad Siraj struggled on debut, and could be replaced by Yuzvendra Chahal. Regardless of the personnel, though, India have a great opportunity to get the better of Australia’s top five to leave Stoinis and Maxwell between a rock and hard place. If those two need to rebuild and fail, it’s curtains for Australia.

Australia vs India 3rd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
Australia vs India 3rd ODI Preview Dream11: India needed Virat Kohli to step up in Adelaide, and he did brilliantly.

Possible Playing 11

As mentioned, Australia have dropped Nathan Lyon, with Adam Zampa his replacement. Here is a memo to the Aussie selectors: How can a player be expected to perform if they are constantly in and out of the side? That too for a Test bowler this series? Even worse, thrown into a decider expected to deliver right away? It’s asking a lot for Adam Zampa to come in and fire right away, but that’s the task required.

Australia Possible Playing 11: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. Alex Carey (wk) 3. Usman Khawaja, 4. Shaun Marsh, 5. Peter Handscomb, 6. Marcus Stoinis, 7. Glenn Maxwell, 8. Adam Zampa, 9. Jhye Richardson, 10. Peter Siddle, 11. Billy Stanlake

The question for India is who supports their main four bowlers. Their best option is Yuzvendra Chahal, given Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammad Siraj have both struggled to stem the scoring this series. Also, Vijay Shankar or Kedar Jadhav are a chance of playing, which means Ambati Rayudu could miss out.

India Possible Playing 11: 1. Rohit Sharma, 2. Shikhar Dhawan, 3. Virat Kohli (c), 4. Ambati Rayudu/Vijay Shankar, 5. MS Dhoni (wk), 6. Dinesh Karthik, 7. Ravindra Jadeja, 8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9. Mohammed Shami, 10. Kuldeep Yadav, 11. Yuzvendra Chahal

Pitch and conditions

Weather is expected to be much cooler in Melbourne than in other parts of Australia, where there is a continued heatwave. A high of 27 degrees is expected, and the pitch is tipped to provide some assistance for the seamers with the new ball.

Dream11 Prediction

Australia vs India 3rd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
  • MS Dhoni has outplayed Alex Carey, and has proven to be an important foil in India’s middle order this series.
  • Shaun Marsh has four centuries in his last eight ODIs, and is in fine form. Peter Handscomb looked good in Adelaide, before lazily getting stumped. He offers good value.
  • Rohit Sharma has a superb record at the MCG, scoring 341 runs in six matches with two centuries. Shikhar Dhawan also has a fine record at MCG, scoring 237 runs in four matches, including a fine century against South Africa in the 2015 World Cup.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar is all over Aaron Finch right now. Finch, despite scoring a century in his last ODI at the MCG, is a risky pick now given his form. He has scored 228 runs at 15.20 across all formats since the beginning of the Australian international season.
  • Kuldeep Yadav strikes at 65 balls per wicket in final games of an ODI series. Do teams pick him better later? Perhaps, but the large MCG ground could suit him. Yuzvendra Chahal is also an option, but has a lack of cricket under his belt, as well as just 13 wickets in his last 11 ODIs at 37.84.
Australia vs India 3rd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
Image Credit: Getty Images. Australia vs India 3rd ODI Preview Dream11: Jhye Richardson will be key for Australia.

Stats and Facts

  • Australia haven’t won an ODI series since beating Pakistan 4-1 in 2016.
  • India have won nine of their last 10 ODI assignments.
  • Australia have won their last three ODIs against India at the MCG.

Prediction

This series deserves a good finale.

Will Australia or India lift the trophy?

I think India will win as they are just ahead of Australia in a few key areas, especially the top order. India to win 2-1.

Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11

Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11

The important games come thick and fast in BBL08. Just four points currently separate second and last, with Melbourne Renegades (in second) currently having played more games than anyone else, except for Sydney Sixers. Two points separate tonight’s opponents, which makes it a crucial game for both sides at the Gabba.

Brisbane Heat have won three of their past four games, which included a win via D/L method against Sydney Thunder last week. Inconsistency remains an issue for the Heat, shown by their two performances against Melbourne Renegades over the past week. However, the good cricket they have played is a confidence booster, especially with the likes of Brendon McCullum, Chris Lynn and Max Bryant in dangerous form. They have the chance now to break into the top four after losing their first three matches, and play a side whom they have an excellent record against.

Sydney Thunder sat in second place before the Renegades’ huge win against the Sixers yesterday. Like the Heat, the Thunder too are coming off a huge win, thumping one of the favourites Adelaide Strikers by 71 runs on Sunday. With the BBL08 group stage heading towards its business stage, the Thunder have an opportunity to push away from other top four challengers. However, they have won two of their past six matches, and need to show greater consistency both within games and across matches. Will they overcome the Heat?

Key to a Brisbane Heat win

Brisbane Heat are on a good run of results at the moment, mostly down to the strong form of their top order. Brendon McCullum has three fifties in a row, and will be key again in applying the pressure on the opposition, creating greater freedom for Max Bryant and Chris Lynn to fire. Bryant and Lynn are also in fine form, and against a Thunder attack that has shown to struggle against attacking batting in BBL08, a big opportunity awaits. Remember, these three dominated the Thunder last week, and will be out to do it again to create a platform for a middle order that needs to step up.

Also, it would have been very pleasing for coach Daniel Vettori to see the Heat blow the Renegades away with the ball. Coming off their biggest ever win in BBL history, the Heat bowlers need to now perform across matches. Shane Watson and Anton Devcich will be crucial wickets at the top to target a Thunder middle order that struggled a touch against Adelaide Strikers on Sunday. Will it be another good night for the Heat?

Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11 Prediction

Key to a Sydney Thunder win

Shane Watson played his best innings by far in BBL08 in the last match. He took the Strikers’ attack apart, which paved the way to a competitive total. With Jos Buttler now in the Caribbean, Watson will again be crucial to the cause. However, he needs greater support from the likes of Anton Devcich, Callum Ferguson and Daniel Sams to ensure the Thunder are well placed for a competitive total. If they rely on one player, or a just a few spurts of brilliance, a defeat likely awaits.

Also, like the Heat, the Thunder restricted their opponents to under 100 in their last game. The men in green blew the Strikers away on a slow Spotless Stadium pitch, but the Gabba challenge will be different, with good batting conditions expected. The crucial question is can the Thunder get the better of the Heat’s top three? The likes of Gurinder Sandhu and Daniel Sams will be vital in setting up a platform for the spinners to maintain pressure on a Heat middle order that has been under par this tournament. Can the Thunder push clear of the other top four challengers?

Possible Playing 11

Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns are all in action for Cricket Australia XI in the tour match against Sri Lanka. Sam Heazlett and Mark Steketee come into the 13-man squad.

There is also a significant change to Sydney Thunder’s 13-man squad. Jason Sangha is playing Sri Lanka in the tour match, with Ryan Gibson coming into the squad.

Sydney Thunder Possible Playing 11: 1. Shane Watson (c), 2. Anton Devcich, 3. Callum Ferguson, 4. Ryan Gibson, 5. Daniel Sams, 6. Jay Lenton (wk), 7. Arjun Nair, 8. Chris Jordan, 9. Chris Green, 10. Gurinder Sandhu, 11. Fawad Ahmed

Dream11 Prediction

Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11 Prediction
Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11
  • Jay Lenton’s 27 off 16 balls vs Adelaide Strikers gives him the nod over Jimmy Peirson (85 runs across seven matches in BBL08).
  • Chris Lynn has a brilliant record against Sydney Thunder. His last four scores against them are: 75 (32), 85* (48), 25 (9) and 54 (30).
  • Brendon McCullum has three fifties in a row, and Max Bryant has a double figure score in every game, passing 30 four times with 26 fours and eight sixes for the tournament.
  • Shane Watson is coming off a man of the match performance against Adelaide Strikers. He also had a good match the last time he played at the Gabba, scoring 56 (34).
  • Callum Ferguson has two ducks in his past three innings, so Anton Devcich is perhaps a safer option with his all-round capabilities.
  • Brendan Doggett has six wickets in his four BBL08 games so far.

Stats and Facts

  • Brisbane Heat have won seven of their last eight matches against Sydney Thunder, including the win last week.
  • Only D’Arcy Short has scored more runs than Chris Lynn in BBL08.
  • Brisbane Heat have lost six consecutive matches at the Gabba.

Match Prediction

Really difficult match to predict.

Brisbane Heat have struggled at home in recent times, but have an excellent record against Sydney Thunder. With their top order firing nicely, I will back the Heat to pick up an important win.

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Preview Dream11

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Preview Dream11

BBL08 action returns after India’s win over Australia in a thrilling ODI yesterday.

Sydney Sixers return to the SCG after five straight away matches, with the latest a challenging night in Perth. Each of their batsmen reached double figures en route to a decent score of 177/5, but the bowlers were victims of Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner at their best. With the Sixers’ occupying third spot in a table which remains so tight, a win here is crucial.

Is there a side more inconsistent than Melbourne Renegades? Sure, the likes of Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers have had their issues, but the Renegades are a side that can turn it on and then switch it off just as quickly. This can be highlighted most by their efforts against Brisbane Heat – a thumping eight wicket win followed by a thumping 101-run loss in the space of three days. Which Renegades side will show up today?

Key to a Sydney Sixers win

All seven Sixers’ batsmen went past double figures in Perth, with the top score 38. While this was an improvement on their lack of form early in the season, especially at the top, it is important for at least one batsman to carry on with a 50 to set the Sixers up even further. Daniel Hughes, Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk have all shown good form in recent matches, and will be key here along with James Vince of whom the Sixers can benefit from his confident starts. Who will step up for the Sixers?

Also, significant onus will be on the bowlers. That the game against Perth wasn’t even taken to the 20th over after a total of 177 is cause for significant improvement, with the likes of Steve O’Keefe, Tom Curran and Sean Abbott needing better nights. Melbourne Renegades have shown to lose quick wickets in BBL08, which occurred in the Sixers’ win over the Renegades earlier in the season, so the Sixers can look to exploit this by bowling and fielding with intent.

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Preview Dream11 Prediction
Image Credit: Getty Images. Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Preview Dream11 Prediction – Tom Curran will be key once again for the Sixers.

Key to a Melbourne Renegades win

Melbourne Renegades have put together some brilliant displays in BBL08. However, they sit in fifth with the worst net run rate of all teams so far, highlighting their troubles in putting a string of good performances together.

In Sydney, the batting has to deliver. The Renegades have made two scores of less than 100 in BBL08, including their last game against Brisbane Heat, whose bowling is actually one of their concerns. Marcus Harris, Sam Harper and Tom Cooper are three players that must step up at the SCG, paving the way for the all rounders to play with freedom at the back-end of the innings. If the batting is stuck, with a lack of singles on show, the big shots might lead to the downfall of the Renegades batsmen, which will render their chances of victory almost impossible.

Also, the return of Kane Richardson is a boost to the Renegades attack that has also been inconsistent in BBL08. His partnership with Usman Khan Shinwari led to fine wins for the Renegades earlier this season, but with Shinwari now with the Pakistan ODI squad in South Africa, the combination of Richardson and Harry Gurney will be crucial. The Sixers have lost top order wickets on a number of occasions in BBL08, and the Renegades need to force a repeat in the powerplay overs, again paving the way for the all rounders and Cameron Boyce to keep the pressure right on.

Possible Playing 11

Sydney Sixers will play five consecutive matches at the SCG, starting today. They have made one change to their 13-man squad, with Lloyd Pope replacing Justin Avendano who was injured in the warm-ups on Perth.

Sydney Sixers Possible Playing 11: 1. Daniel Hughes, 2. Jack Edwards, 3. James Vince, 4. Moises Henriques (c), 5. Jordan Silk, 6. Josh Phillipe (wk), 7. Tom Curran, 8. Sean Abbott, 9. Steve O’Keefe, 10. Ben Dwarshuis, 11. Ben Manenti

As mentioned, Kane Richardson returns to the Renegades’ 13-man squad. He was out for two matches with hamstring soreness, and replaces Jon Holland in the squad. He will likely replace Joe Mennie in the final XI. Also, it remains to be seen whether Cameron White is brought back.

Melbourne Renegades Possible Playing 11: 1. Marcus Harris, 2. Mackenzie Harvey/Cameron White, 3. Sam Harper (wk), 4. Tom Cooper (c), 5. Mohammad Nabi, 6. Daniel Christian, 7. Beau Webster, 8. Jack Wildermuth, 9. Cameron Boyce, 10. Kane Richardson, 11. Harry Gurney

Dream11 Prediction

  • Sam Harper missed out in the last match, as well as earlier in the season against Sydney Sixers. However, he has a higher ceiling than Josh Phillipe as he bats up the order.
  • Moises Henriques has 162 runs in his past five innings, including a fifty. He is threatening to play a big knock. He is my captain for this one.
  • James Vince looked good for his 28 in the previous match against Perth Scorchers. Marcus Harris missed out in the last match, but returns to the ground where he struck the ball well in the recent Test match against India.
  • Jordan Silk’s scores at SCG this season: 67*, 41*.
  • Tom Curran scored 23* and took 3/18 in the game against Melbourne Renegades earlier this season.
  • Cameron Boyce has taken all of his seven BBL08 wickets away from Marvel Stadium. Harry Gurney began his campaign with two wickets against Scorchers, and is a good option for death-over wickets.
  • Steve O’Keefe is leading wicket taker with Rashid Khan in BBL08 (13), but is in doubt. Sean Abbott and Tom Curran are not far behind (11 each).
  • Ben Manenti was man of the match against Melbourne Renegades earlier this season, so he’s worth a look, too.
Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Preview Dream11 Prediction
Image credit: Getty Images. Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades Preview Dream11 Prediction – Sean Abbott and Jordan Silk are good performers at SCG.

Stats and Facts

  • Sydney Sixers have won five of their past six matches against Melbourne Renegades.
  • Sydney Sixers thumped Melbourne Renegades earlier this season, restricting them to 99/9 in pursuit of 133.
  • Sam Harper is the only Renegades batsman to hit a fifty in BBL08.
  • Number of sixes in BBL08: Sydney Sixers: 21, Melbourne Renegades: 33

Match Prediction

Sydney Sixers return to the SCG for the first time since a heavy defeat to Melbourne Stars.

Despite their last start loss against Perth Scorchers, I will back the Sixers to get back to winning ways on the back of a polished performance.

Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11

Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11

What started as a little friendly banter turned into a fantastic victory for Australia in the first ODI.

Indeed, Australia’s win was somewhat unexpected. They began the match as outsiders, fielding a side filled with changes, but it was the performance they were hoping for. The middle order set the platform, limiting too much damage in the middle overs, with 288 then proving enough thanks to three very early wickets led by the excellent Jhye Richardson. Can Australia seal the series and pick up a big scalp in a World Cup year?

While Australia were good, India weren’t. Plenty of middle over wickets, good death bowling and top order runs have been the hallmark of India’s ODI cricket over the past few years, but that went out the window in Sydney. Jasprit Bumrah was missed, but except for Rohit Sharma, and a little flicker of hope from MS Dhoni, India were well off the pace with the bat against an Australian attack that showed plenty of effort. Will they bounce back quickly? They have to with the series on the line.

Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
Image Credit: Cricket Australia. Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction – Australia produced a retro performance in Sydney. Can they repeat it?

Key to an Australia win

It was just one game, but Australia gave fans reasons for optimism. The batsmen executed what they set out to do, laying a platform for Marcus Stoinis to go hard at the end. Aaron Finch will be of huge importance to help Australia have a strong start, given Alex Carey, Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh are natural accumulators. Peter Handscomb will also be key for middle overs momentum, giving Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell a platform to go big again. Can Australia execute their plans for the second match in a row?

Also, how brilliant was Jhye Richardson in the first ODI? It was his coming of age in an Australian shirt, tearing through India early to leave their chase in ruins. He will be crucial at the top again against a side whose top three has contributed two-thirds of their runs since the beginning of 2017, along with Jason Behrendhorff who was also impressive in Sydney. Can the likes of Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell build pressure well and even contribute with wickets?

Image Credit: Getty Images. Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction – Rohit Sharma labeled Jhye Richardson as a “captain’s dream”.

Key to an India win

The need for at least two of the top three to fire was on show at Sydney. Rohit Sharma played such a brilliant innings, and will be key again, but India need at least one of Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli to fire with Ambati Rayudu still needing to prove his consistency and MS Dhoni still dividing opinion. A strong top order performance can have doubts creep in for Australia, who haven’t won an ODI series for two years. Will India lay a strong platform for the middle order to launch?

Also, India started beautifully in Sydney, restricting Australia early. However, that they couldn’t quite drive the advantage home in the middle and death overs was cause for slight disappointment. In Adelaide, India need to have Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell in a position where they need to do a least a little rebuilding, which will not likely see Australia reach the big score they’ll be after. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be key again at the top against Aaron Finch, and at the death, and so too Shami and Ahmed, with the spinners to play a vital wicket-taking role in the middle overs.

Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction – India need Virat Kohli to have a big game.

Possible Playing 11

Mitchell Marsh is fit again for selection after missing the first ODI. However, expect Australia to stick with the same XI that delivered victory in Sydney, despite legends unhappy with Glenn Maxwell’s batting position and Nathan Lyon not threatening a great deal in Sydney.

Australia Possible Playing 11: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. Alex Carey (wk), 3. Usman Khawaja, 4. Shaun Marsh, 5. Peter Handscomb, 6. Marcus Stonis, 7. Glenn Maxwell, 8. Peter Siddle, 9. Nathan Lyon, 10. Jhye Richardson, 11. Jason Behrendhorff

For India, it remains to be seen whether Dinesh Karthik is persisted with. Kedar Jadhav is waiting in the wings. Also, Khaleel Ahmed might get another chance after a disappointing outing in Sydney.

India Possible Playing 11: 1. Rohit Sharma, 2. Shikhar Dhawan, 3. Virat Kohli (c), 4. Ambati Rayudu, 5. MS Dhoni (wk), 6. Kedar Jadhav/Dinesh Karthik, 7. Ravindra Jadeja, 8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9. Kuldeep Yadav, 10. Mohammed Shami, 11. Khaleel Ahmed

Pitch and Conditions

Australia defended 231 against South Africa earlier this season. However, a heatwave is engulfing Adelaide, with the temperature expected to soar to nearly 40 degrees. Expect the pitch to dry out very quickly, if there is indeed any moisture.

Dream11 Prediction

Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
  • MS Dhoni outscored Alex Carey in the last game, but as Carey is opener, and the Indian top three usually goes well, Carey is a good pick.
  • Aaron Finch has just two fifties in his last 25 innings across formats. He misses out.
  • Shaun Marsh continued on his good form from 2018 with 54 at the SCG. He scored 416 runs at 59.42 in 2018.
  • Peter Handscomb has hit 70 and 73 in his last two innings in white ball cricket. One was for the Melbourne Stars, and the second was in the first ODI. He looks to be enjoying the white ball that moves less.
  • Virat Kohli has a stellar record at Adelaide Oval, especially in Tests, but has an ODI hundred on the ground, too. Rohit Sharma has six centuries in his last 16 ODI innings.
  • Glenn Maxwell misses out as he might not get enough time to bat. He batted for five balls in Sydney, and bowled just two overs.
  • Jason Behrendhorff and Jhye Richardson took six wickets between them at the SCG.

Stats and Facts

  • Australia lead India 4-1 in ODIs played at Adelaide.
  • MS Dhoni’s 96-ball 51 was his second slowest 50+ score in ODIs.
  • India have won nine of their past 10 ODI assignments. Australia haven’t won a series since beating Pakistan 4-1 in 2016.

Match Prediction

It was an excellent performance by Australia at the SCG, but can they back it up with another in Adelaide?

They are capable of doing so. However, India are even more capable of putting a much more polished performance. I expect them to do so and level the series 1-1 on the back of Virat Kohli.

Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview Dream11

Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview Dream11

Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview Dream11

BBL08 is now past its halfway stage. The table is still very close, but in what is a concern for the tournament, a side hurt by Australian ODI duty takes on a side unaffected and flying high.

Melbourne Stars have struggled badly without Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa. They have suffered two heavy defeats in a row against Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers respectively, falling back to 7th place in the process. There are still a number of matches to be played, and with the competition table still tight, a win here for the Stars can be a big confidence boost.

Hobart Hurricanes suffered their first defeat against Melbourne Stars’ rivals, Melbourne Renegades, a week ago. Openers D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade, who have largely been brilliant in BBL08, fell early, which the Hurricanes were never quite able to recover from, despite George Bailey and Ben McDermott’s fine efforts. They start as clear favourites against a Stars side very keen to get their big guns back, which presents a fine chance to get back to winning ways.

Key to a Melbourne Stars win

The Stars started well against the Strikers on Friday, but their middle and death overs bowling especially sucked momentum out of their effort. Dwayne Bravo, who was poor, needs to step up with the ball here, along with the likes of Scott Boland and Liam Plunkett, both whom have been in the wickets in recent matches. Can Liam Bowe get the ball turning and cause problems for the Hurricanes batsmen?

Also, the batsmen have struggled in the absence of Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell. Nic Maddinson has had two disappointing outings since his return, and needs to step up the way he has in BBL Cricket in the past. Ben Dunk, Evan Gulbis, Seb Gotch and Dwayne Bravo doesn’t represent the best batting lineup on paper in BBL08, so partnerships are crucial to the cause. Can the Stars’ batsmen stave off the Hurricanes challenge?

Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview + Dream11 Prediction
Image Credit: Getty Images. Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview + Dream11 Prediction: The Stars need more from Dwayne Bravo

Key to a Hobart Hurricanes win

Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short have been central to the Hurricanes’ excellent season so far. Here, they have the chance to cause further misery to a Stars attack that has struggled for penetration with the ball in the last two matches. A strong platform at the top paves the way for the likes of Ben McDermott, George Bailey and James Faulkner to launch against a side that has struggled with its death bowling.

Also, can Jofra Archer get back in the wickets? He has been uncharacteristically short of scalps in the last few matches, and if he fires here, there is surely no way back for the Stars. James Faulkner has also been good with the ball in BBL08, and along with the likes of Riley Meredith and Johan Botha, the Hurricanes have the resources to pick up regular wickets. Will it be their night?

Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview + Dream11 Prediction

Possible Playing 11

Melbourne Stars have made one change to their 13-man squad from the Adelaide match. Tom O’Connor comes in for Michael Beer.

Melbourne Stars Possible Playing 11: 1. Ben Dunk, 2. Evan Gulbis, 3. Nic Maddinson (c), 4. Nick Larkin, 5. Seb Gotch (wk), 6. Dwayne Bravo, 7. Jonathan Merlo, 8. Liam Plunkett, 9. Scott Boland, 10. Liam Bowe, 11. Jackson Bird

Hobart Hurricanes have an unchanged squad. It will likely be the same XI as last game.

Hobart Hurricanes Possible Playing 11: 1. D’Arcy Short, 2. Matthew Wade (c & wk), 3. Alex Doolan, 4. Ben McDermott, 5. George Bailey, 6. Simon Milenko, 7. James Faulkner, 8. Johan Botha, 9. Jofra Archer, 10. Clive Rose, 11. Riley Meredith

Dream11 Prediction

Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview Dream11 Prediction
Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview Dream11
  • Matthew Wade has been one of the fine performers in BBL08. With 190 runs for the tournament at a SR of 140, he has a much higher ceiling than Seb Gotch.
  • D’Arcy Short has the fourth most runs in BBL08 (259). Also, he is a key bowler for the Hurricanes this season, taking four wickets with an economy rate of just 7.07.
  • George Bailey has been in fine touch, with 100 runs in his last two innings and three not outs in his last five knocks. Ben McDermott is coming off a 50, and looked impressive in the T20I against India at the MCG, where this match will be played tonight.
  • Evan Gulbis has looked good at the top for the Stars. Two scores of 37 in his last two games, threatening to go bigger. Also a handy option with the ball.
  • Persisted with Nic Maddinson in the last match, but he looks terribly out of form since his return from injury. His scores have been low, and the manner of his dismissals just as concerning.
  • James Faulker is 7th highest wicket taker in BBL08 with 10. (with games in hand over those above him).
  • Dwayne Bravo was awful with the ball against Adelaide Strikers. However, he took eight wickets in the four preceding games, and is coming off a 30+ score. Worth persisting with.
  • Liam Plunkett has taken six wickets in his three matches, including a four-wicket haul last match. Jofra Archer has taken just two wickets in his last four games, but he will be targeting a slightly fragile Stars lineup.
Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Preview + Dream11 Prediction

Stats and Facts

  • Melbourne Renegades could move to as high as 2nd in the BBL08 table with a win. They are currently 7th.
  • Melbourne Stars’ highest total in BBL08 is 155. Hobart Hurricanes have four totals higher than that in six matches.
  • Hobart Hurricanes have lost three of their last four matches against Melbourne Stars, but beat them comfortably earlier in the season.
  • George Bailey will play his 50th BBL game.

Match Prediction

Melbourne Stars are struggling without their Australian ODI representatives.

Hobart Hurricanes are unaffected, and will look to bounce back after a loss to Melbourne Renegades last week. Hurricanes to win.

Melbourne Renegades vs Brisbane Heat Preview Dream11

Melbourne Renegades vs Brisbane Heat Preview Dream11

Melbourne Renegades vs Brisbane Heat take two this week.

Melbourne Renegades won’t mind. They absolutely thrashed the Heat on their own turf a few nights ago, putting on a complete display with bat and ball. Their record against the Heat is fantastic, and can build momentum at the midway point of BBL08. Will they pick up their third straight win?

While the Renegades were good, Brisbane Heat were awful a few nights ago. Apart from Brendon McCullum, they couldn’t get going with the bat, and then struggled with the ball. Their fielding was just as atrocious, dropping catches on the way to a heavy defeat. Can the Heat repeat the good things they should in their two wins before the Renegades game mid week? With two wins and four losses, the Heat’s time to step up is now.

Key to a Melbourne Renegades win

The Renegades return to Geelong after a disappointing performance against Adelaide Strikers earlier in the campaign. However, the template for success has been set. Their bowling attack has shown moments of great efficiency in BBL08, and against a Heat side that relies significantly on its top order, another opportunity awaits. Harry Gurney replaces Usman Khan Shinwari, and is needed to have the kind of impact Shinwari did to hurt the Heat’s quest for a big total. Can the likes of Jack Wildermuth, Cameron Boyce and Daniel Christian contribute to see the back of the Bash Brothers early, and cause more problems for the Heat?

Also, can the top order deliver again? Marcus Harris, despite having some luck in the last game, is a welcome addition to the side, and Sam Harper is in superb touch. Tom Cooper loves playing against Brisbane Heat, so a great opportunity awaits for the Renegades to set up a great platform for the all-rounders to go big at the death overs. Will the Renegades’ batting prove too much for an underperforming Heat attack?

Key to a Brisbane Heat win

Brisbane Heat need the total opposite to what they dished up at the Gabba on Thursday. Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn will again be key to a big total for the Heat, along with Max Bryant and Ben Cutting who both have excellent hitting potential. Regular wickets hurt the Heat badly three nights ago, and must avoid the same if they are to score a competitive total.

The need for a competitive total is because the Heat’s bowling attack is still inconsistent. To make matters worse, James Pattinson is out of BBL08 with a side strain, which places greater onus on the likes of Josh Lalor, Ben Cutting and Brendan Doggett to deliver against a Renegades lineup that looks raring to go for this clash. Can Mujeeb ur Rahman also deliver with wickets to put the brakes on the Renegades’ scoring efforts?

Possible Playing 11

Usman Khan Shinwari will join up with Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming ODI series in South Africa. Harry Gurney comes into the squad.

Melbourne Renegades possible Playing 11: 1. Marcus Harris, 2. Mackenzie Harvey/Cameron White, 3. Sam Harper (wk), 4. Tom Cooper (c), 5. Mohammad Nabi, 6. Daniel Christian, 7. Beau Webster, 8. Jack Wildermuth, 9. Cameron Boyce, 10. Joe Mennie, 11. Harry Gurney

As mentioned, James Pattinson is out of BBL08 with a side strain. Jack Prestwidge comes into the squad, but Josh Lalor could be the likely replacement in the XI. Also, Ben Cutting is expected to play after getting five stitches to his head after getting hit trying to take a catch.

Brisbane Heat possible Playing 11: 1. Max Bryant, 2. Brendon McCullum, 3. Chris Lynn (c), 4. Matt Renshaw/Alex Ross, 5. Joe Burns, 6. Jimmy Peirson, 7. Ben Cutting, 8. Mitch Swepson, 9 Josh Lalor, 10. Brendan Doggett, 11. Mujeeb ur Rahman

Dream11 Prediction

  • Sam Harper has been in excellent touch in recent matches. He has 184 runs in BBL08, including 56* vs the Heat three nights ago.
  • Brendon McCullum has two fifties in a row.
  • Chris Lynn is third highest run scorer in BBL08.
  • Tom Cooper’s last three scores vs Brisbane Heat: 52*, 65*, 36*.
  • Harry Gurney has an excellent T20 record – 134 wickets in 112 games.
  • Cameron Boyce has taken all his BBL08 wickets away from Marvel Stadium this season. He took 2/17 vs the Heat two nights ago.

Stats and Facts

  • Melbourne Renegades have won their last six matches against Brisbane Heat.
  • Melbourne Renegades beat Brisbane Heat by eight wickets on Thursday.
  • Chris Lynn has hit the most sixes in BBL08 (13).

Match Prediction

Melbourne Renegades have the wood over Brisbane Heat, and I expect it to continue here.

Renegades to win.

Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers Preview Dream11

Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers Preview Dream11

Can’t get enough of T20 cricket?

Sydney Thunder host the Strikers in the first of three BBL matches on Sunday, with this a crucial game for the home side. Star man Jos Buttler has departed for England duty, which leaves a huge hole in the Thunder’s batting lineup. Joe Root has departed too, but his stay was far less impactful, with New Zealand’s Anton Devcich straight away a key man in resurrecting the Thunder’s flailing season. Can he and Chris Jordan prove to be excellent signings right away?

Adelaide Strikers, on the other hand, are on an excellent run, winning three of their past four games. This includes a very convincing win against Melbourne Stars less than two days ago without their Australian ODI representatives. They are building momentum nicely at the midway point of the season, and look like a side that can indeed go very far in this competition. Will they prove to be too good for the Thunder today?

Key to a Sydney Thunder win

Jos Buttler’s departure puts significant onus on other players who haven’t quite stepped up in recent times. Shane Watson has had a quiet BBL08 campaign so far, and must step up here against an efficient Strikers attack, along with the likes of Callum Ferguson, Jason Sangha and Daniel Sams. All have the potential to deliver the goods, but haven’t been as consistent as they’d like, which is crucial here to reduce any immediate on Anton Devcich.

However, the recruitment of Chris Jordan helps the Thunder’s bowling, which was taken to the cleaners for the most part against Brisbane Heat last Tuesday. Spotless Stadium is a ground that the Thunder spinners typically enjoy, and they have to be on song today against a Strikers side that have players in form after a big win less than 48 hours ago. Can Jordan and Daniel Sams in particular create a strong platform for the spinners to do their thing?

Key to an Adelaide Strikers win

The Strikers had a slow start against the Stars, but were still able to set a platform for a strong total. A fast start is never a given at Spotless Stadium, and with the afternoon sun belting down on the pitch, slower conditions might greet the Strikers. Rotation of strike is critical, and in Travis Head, Jake Weatherald and Colin Ingram, the Strikers have the ingredients to set a strong platform for the likes of Rashid Khan, Jono Wells and Michael Neser to launch.

Also, it would have been pleasing for the Strikers to see Ben Laughlin and Michael Neser in the wickets two days ago. These two had to step up in the absence of Billy Stanlake and Peter Siddle, and that they did, building further confidence for this clash. Stanlake is available for this clash, so can the Strikers pick up powerplay wickets, including Shane Watson, to give Rashid Khan a chance to target an inconsistent Thunder middle order?

Possible Playing 11

Jos Buttler and Joe Root have departed, with Anton Devcich and Chris Jordan the overseas replacements. Jay Lenton will come in as the keeper batsman.

Dream11 Prediction

  • Given the Strikers’ strong top order, Jay Lenton is likelier to get more of a batting opportunity than Harry Nielsen.
  • Shane Watson has made six double figure scores in seven innings in BBL08. He has threatened to go big – will the added responsibility of Buttler no longer here help him?
  • Travis Head, Colin Ingram and Jake Weatherald are all in good touch. Weatherald has two fifties in his last three innings. Ingram is coming off a man of the match performance, and has two fifties in BBL08.
  • Michael Neser has six wickets in his last four BBL matches.
  • Rashid Khan was man of the match twice against Sydney Thunder last season, taking four wickets in two games. He has 11 wickets in BBL08.
  • Fawad Ahmed has taken nine wickets in BBL08. Seven have come at Spotless Stadium in three matches. Jono Cook is also a good option.
  • Chris Jordan has 12 wickets in his last nine T20 matches, and also represents a handy batting option down the order.
