The struggling Chennai Super Kings (CSK) face a tough test against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 22nd match of IPL 2025. PBKS are 4th in the points table with two wins and a loss in three games. Meanwhile, CSK will be coming to this game after three consecutive defeats after winning their season opener.

Punjab Kings have been one of the most exciting teams in the competition. Their batters are in top form and the bowlers have been very consistent. They have insane batting depth and quite a few options with the ball as well. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Nehal Wadhera, Arshdeep Singh, Glenn Maxwell and Lockie Ferguson will be the key players for them. 

Marcus Stoinis and Yuvzendra Chahal’s form will be a headache for coming to this game. Apart from that, they’ve been in top form as a side in IPL 2025.

Chennai Super Kings have struggled badly after winning their first game. They have failed to find the right combination and their key batters are struggling to score runs. Powerplay batting is another big concern for them. Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored a couple of fifties but CSK lack firepower in the middle order, which is the reason he’s batting at 3. The likes of Rachin Ravindra, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube must perform consistently for CSK to do well. 

CSK’s bowling is faring better, although they are conceding too much given their batting issues. Noor Ahmad (10 wickets) is currently the highest wicket-taker in the league. Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesha Pathirana have been brilliant as well. Ravichandran Ashwin’s form is a concern and the third pacer has leaked runs as well. CSK must regroup and perform as a side to win this game.

The first game at Mullanpur saw a good batting wicket in the first innings and it swung a lot with the new ball in the second innings. There was no dew and the spinners got some assistance as well. Overall, it looked like a good pitch with something for everyone. Scores in the range of 180-200 are expected but you never know if CSK bats first.

• Devon Conway got out cheaply in the last game and his current form is not that great either. But he will be a top fantasy pick if he plays. Conway has played only one game against PBKS in his IPL career and he scored 92(52) runs in that game.  

Key batter picks: 

• Ruturaj Gaikwad is the best batter for CSK in IPL 2025. He has looked in good touch apart from tackling that short ball. Gaikwad has 241 runs in 8 innings against PBKS at an average of 34.40 with a couple of fifties.
• He struggles a bit against the left-arm pacers but looked good against Boult in the first game and Jansen and Arshdeep may have bowled 2 overs each when he’ll come out to bat (given CSK openers can stay there for 4-5 overs).
• Shreyas Iyer has been in sublime form this season but got out playing a rash shot in the last game. He has 290 runs in 13 innings against CSK at an average of 26.40 at a strike rate of 106.20 with just one fifty. 
• Shivam Dube got out for a golden duck in both games that CSK played against PBKS in IPL 2024. He is a key player for them in the middle overs and can be a game-changer in fantasy cricket. However, his current form is not that good and he has failed to hit even the spinners.

• Ravindra Jadeja has 394 runs and 20 wickets against the Punjab Kings. He has a good record against PBKS’ middle order and is contributing with both bat and ball in every game for CSK. Jadeja will be a top fantasy pick.
• Glenn Maxwell has 380 runs in 15 innings against CSK at an average of 27.10 and strike rate of 186.30 with 3 fifties to his name. Maxwell will fetch points from both bat and ball.  

Key bowler picks: 

• Noor Ahmad has four wickets in two games against PBKS. He has 10 wickets in four games so far and has been the best bowler for his side. Noor can trouble Punjab’s middle order and will be a key bowler for his team.
• Khaleel Ahmed is in great form in IPL 2025. He has been excellent with the new ball and equally good for his one over towards the end. He has eight wickets to his name and can trouble Punjab’s top order in this match, especially in the second innings if it moves like the first game. 
• Matheesha Pathirana will be a top fantasy pick, especially if CSK bowls first. He will bowl in the last 8 overs and can pick up 2-3 wickets easily on his day. 
• Arshdeep Singh will trouble CSK’s top order and don’t be surprised if he picks up at least 2 wickets in the first six overs. He bowls the important overs for his side and will be a must in fantasy cricket.
