RR vs RCB Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Qualifier 2 | RR vs BLR Dream11 Prediction Today | Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Key Players | Ahmedabad Pitch Report
What a difference a week makes. Seven days ago, Royal Challengers Bangalore were on the brink, needing to beat top-placed Gujarat Titans and then hope bottom-placed Mumbai Indians could topple Delhi Capitals over. Fast forward a few days, and RCB enter Qualifier 2 full of momentum after a memorable night against Lucknow, with Rajat Patidar and the death bowlers sending RCB fans everywhere into raptures.
So, it sets us up for quite the clash. Rajasthan Royals need to pick themselves up after another magnificent David Miller onslaught to keep a dangerous RCB side in check. Jos Buttler’s start will be key, while wickets up front from the bowling attack will reduce the pressure at the backend of the innings.
The Royals’ strong auction performance before the season comes down to this. Qualifier 1 had the insurance of a second chance, but it is now all or nothing, and RCB have succeeded in two such games in the past week. RCB have the confidence and momentum, while the Royals have the experience. It promises to be a cracking battle in Ahmedabad.
Possible Playing 11
Despite the loss in Qualifier 1, the Royals should stick with the same XI.
Rajasthan Royals: 1. Jos Buttler, 2. Yashasvi Jaiswal, 3. Sanju Samson (c & wk), 4. Devdutt Padikkal, 5. Shimron Hetmyer, 6. Riyan Parag, 7. R Ashwin, 8. Trent Boult, 9. Yuzvendra Chahal, 10. Obed McCoy, 11. Prasidh Krishna
RCB should also stick with the same XI that beat LSG.
Royal Challengers Bangalore: 1. Faf du Plessis (c), 2. Virat Kohli, 3. Rajat Patidar, 4. Glenn Maxwell, 5. Mahipal Lomror, 6. Shahbaz Ahmed, 7. Dinesh Karthik (wk), 8. Wanindu Hasaranga, 9. Harshal Patel, 10. Josh Hazlewood, 11. Mohammed Siraj
Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Rajasthan Royals:
- Jos Buttler will finish the season as the Orange Cap winner (currently 718 runs). This includes a 47-ball 70* against RCB earlier in IPL 2022. However, eyes will be on whether Buttler can start freely as he struggled for the first half of the innings in Qualifier 1.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal has a crucial role to play in helping Buttler get set. He has scored 129 runs at a strike rate of 135.78 in the powerplay this season, and has been RR’s top scorer in three of their past five matches. But, driving the good length ball outside off-stump on the up is a risk Jaiswal needs to be careful of.
- Sanju Samson has a poor record vs Wanindu Hasaranga, which is well known. He also averages just 22.69 in 14 innings vs RCB. However, he has looked good in recent matches, with four 20+ scores in his past six outings.
- R Ashwin took 3/17 in his last match vs RCB. He dismissed Patidar and Shahbaz in that game. He could also be a factor with the bat, with scores of 50, 10* and 40* in recent outings.
- Yuzvendra Chahal is still the top wicket-taker in IPL 2022 (26). He took figures of 2/15 and 0/23 against RCB in the league stage, where he was difficult to get away. Also, he has taken seven wickets in as many matches at Ahmedabad.
- Can Trent Boult make inroads in the powerplay? Faf du Plessis has been dismissed by left-arm seam six times this season, so Boult will fancy his chances in that battle. In fact, Boult has dismissed du Plessis thrice in 59 balls in the IPL, conceding just 60.
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
- Virat Kohli has some good numbers against RR’s key bowlers: 69 off 48 vs Boult (no dismissal) and 162 off 127 vs Ashwin (one dismissal). He scored just 5 and 9 against RR during the 2022 season, so can he build on his recent form today?
- Virat has excellent numbers at Ahmedabad: 9 inns, 367 runs, avg. 73.40, four 50s, SR 135.93.
- What a knock it was by Rajat Patidar in Qualifier 1 (112*). Expect him to take RR’s bowlers on as he took on LSG’s a couple of nights ago. He scored 16 vs RR earlier this season, and was bowled by Ashwin. His battle against the spinners will be fascinating.
- Dinesh Karthik’s unbelievable strike rate of 187.28 is the highest among any player with 300+ runs in IPL 2022. He took RR apart earlier this season (44* off 23), and he will be key today against a side that has struggled at the death this season (conceded 35 sixes and nearly 12 per over).
- Glenn Maxwell has scored seven 20+ scores in 12 innings this season. His overall strike rate of 167.87 makes him a dangerous player for the Royals to contend with, especially given their death bowling woes.
- Josh Hazlewood dismissed Jos Buttler with a back of a length delivery earlier this season. Expect Hazlewood to persist with that length again today.
- While Hazlewood will be key in the powerplay, he will also have a crucial role to play in the slog overs. When bowling second, he has taken eight wickets at an economy rate of of 8.21 between overs 16-20. This is in contrast to when he bowls first: one wicket at an ER of 13.85.
- Wanindu Hasaranga is creeping up behind Chahal in the Purple Cap race (25 wickets). The leg-spinner has taken 18 wickets in the middle overs this season and has dismissed Sanju Samson five times for just 18 runs.
- Harshal Patel has taken 15 wickets in eight matches vs RR.
Other Stats and Facts
- Both RR and RCB won one game each against each other this season.
- RCB have conceded 137 sixes this season, the most ever by a team in a single year. RR have hit the most sixes: 123.
- Riyan Parag (56* off 31 and four catches) was player of the match in RR’s last game vs RCB.
- Faf du Plessis made two starts against RR this season (29 and 23). He is a big game player and can fire especially if he gets through the powerplay. He has the most runs in IPL playoffs among players in both squads: 348 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 134.88.
- Obed McCoy has taken six wickets in 46 deliveries at the death this season.
- Expect Prasidh Krishna to test Virat Kohli with the short ball. He dismissed him with a short ball in their last meeting, and could look to work him over again.
- Kohli, du Plessis and Karthik all strike at under 100 versus Chahal. Expect Chahal to play a crucial role in the middle and death overs.
Ahmedabad Pitch Report and Weather
Expect even bounce and decent pace on a fresh surface in Ahmedabad. Also, because it is drier heat compared to Mumbai and Kolkata, dew might not play a huge factor. So, batting first could be tempting for either captain, especially RR who have often defended well this season.
A scorcher is forecast for Ahmedabad during the day (42 degrees), with temperatures to hover around 30 during the match.
