In a tightly-contested Group B, where four teams remain a chance for the top two spots, a crucial game awaits South Africa.

Led by skipper Dane van Niekerk, the South Africans smothered the English with their bowling and fielding effort first up, before holding their nerve to seal a crucial victory. They now have the chance to go top of the group as the race for the Semi Finals heats up.

Thailand have had some good moments in their first T20 World Cup, including two very early wickets vs England. In what is a massive step up to what they are used to, they have displayed superb enthusiasm, giving their all so far. They were on the end of a Heather Knight storm on Wednesday, so how they recover will be a good learning curve for them.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Dane van Niekerk was Player of the Match in South Africa’s opening win vs England (2/20, 46).
  • Lizelle Lee missed out against England. However, she scored the fifth-most runs in last year’s WBBL (475 runs, avg. 36.53).
  • Marizanne Kapp is one to watch as always. She is batting at three is a key bowler: She took 2/19 and scored 38 (33) last match.
  • Also, Kapp scored 44 and 22 in the warm up games vs SL and AUS respectively, along with 4/16 vs AUS.
  • Nannapat Koncharoenkai is Thailand’s top run-scorer so far in two games (45). She is closely followed by opener Nattakan Chantam, who scored 33 vs England.
  • Naruemol Chaiwai, Thailand’s top run-scorer in T20Is (676) will have a key role to play. She has spent some time in the middle so far this tournament (13, 19*, in a total of 48 balls).
  • Mignon du Preez held her nerve to see South Africa home last game. She has been in decent form in her last five T20Is: 112 runs, avg. 28.
  • Nattaya Boochatham is one wicket away from 50 in T20Is. She dismissed Amy Jones second ball on Wednesday. Soraya Lateh is Thailand’s leading wicket-taker this tournament (2).
  • Ayabonga Khaka was impressive against England (3/25).
  • Shabnim Ismail is five away from 100 T20I wickets. She will be sure to test the Thai batters with her aggressive bowling.
  • Sune Luus took 4/20 vs Sri Lanka in the warm up match. Her batting and legspin bowling can be key for South Africa. She also took 6/45 in a recent ODI in New Zealand.

Stats and Facts

  • Run rate has been an issue for Thailand when batting. They have scored 78 in 20 overs in both their matches so far.
