Twitter reactions as South Africa pace brigade roll West Indies for 97 | West Indies 97 all out: Twitter reactions as Nortje and Ngidi rip through West Indies in 1st Test
In what looks to be a competitive Test series started in the most uncompetitive fashion. South Africa, via the strength of their talented pace attack, ripped through West Indies on a record-breaking first day at St. Lucia.
Lungi Ngidi, who was singled out by South Africa fan Dan Osmond on The CricBlog Podcast as a key pacer for this series, took his second career five-wicket haul. Anrich Nortje, who continues his meteoric rise, blew away the top and middle order to set things up and take his own four-wicket haul. Kagiso Rabada, who was arguably the key Protea from a bowling point of view, took a backseat as his two other fast bowling partners wreacked havoc.
Never before have the West Indies been bowled out for under 100 in the first innings of a home Test. 97 is their lowest ever score vs South Africa, beating the 102 against the same opposition back in 2010. Plus, only Jason Holder crossed 20. Carnage.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions to carnage on day one of the first Test:
West Indies then took four wickets of their own to stay alive in the first Test. However, it still is a long way back, and need a near-perfect day two to have a chance of achieving an amazing turnaround.
