Twitter reactions to India’s lowest ever Test score | Twitter reactions to India’s extraordinary 36-all out in the Adelaide Test vs Australia | India’s lowest ever Test score

Think about the 2018/19 Adelaide Test for a moment.

India mustered a score of 250, which was nearly matched this time around (244). Australia, like in 2018/19, didn’t bat as best they could, and conceded a first innings lead. So, with India only one down heading into day three of the 2020 Adelaide Test, with the chance to bat in bathing sunshine, a realistic hope for Australian fans would be to try restrict India to the 250 mark, as opposed to 300+ in 2018/19.

But, no one could have imagined what was to come.

In an hour-and-a-half of pure chaos, records were tumbling, but for the wrong reasons for India. Their score of 36 is their lowest ever, beating their previous effort of 42 against England way back in 1974. Also, it is the equal-fifth lowest score overall, lowest of any team since New Zealand’s 26 back in 1955 and lowest ever at the Adelaide Oval.

Twitter went into meltdown, with some scathing criticism of the Indian team. However, one can’t take credit away from the Australians, who bowled with discipline and venom in equal measure in a remarkable assault on the outside edge of India’s batsmen. It was an exhibition. Pace bowling of the highest quality. The Australians found the edge of the Indian batsmen with such regularity because of how regularly they hit the perfect length.

Josh Hazlewood, who took his 200th Test wicket, finished with an incredible 5/8. Pat Cummins, who took his 150th, took 4/21. Carnage.

So, where do India go from here? They have exactly one week to figure out how to bounce back from such a horror day. They’ll have to do so without Virat Kohli, who will be out for the remainder of the series to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. Also, Mohammed Shami suffered an ugly blow on the arm, and had to retire hurt.

For Australia, they are on the way to avenging for the loss in 2018/19. It was a superb bowling display, after what was a sub-par batting performance in the first innings. They’ll be looking for a 2-0 series lead in Melbourne.
