WI vs IND 1st ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | IND vs WI 1st ODI Dream11 Prediction Today | West Indies vs India 1st ODI Key Players | Port of Spain Pitch Report

Less than a week after West Indies and India finished their last ODI campaigns against different opponents, they meet in the first of three matches at Port of Spain. Relevancy, always a key topic in ODI cricket, will be a key discussion point once again as this series is not part of the Super League but was squeezed into the calendar anyway; the kind of scheduling that Ben Stokes spoke out about after he retired from the format.

In terms of this series, India, even without a number of regulars, are odds-on favourites to win. The Windies have been diabolical in ODI cricket, losing 11 of their 15 matches this year including a 2-1 loss at home to Ireland and a thumping 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bangladesh just last week. Worse, they have batted first 12 times since the beginning of last year, and only played out their full 50 overs on three occasions. If they can’t bat out their 50 overs here, chances are India won’t even need to bat given a win will look guaranteed.

For India, it is an opportunity for a number of players to impress. The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer are high on the watchlist given the spotlight has been shining on them in recent times. Also, the bowling attack, after an excellent display in England, will be looking to make inroads into a Windies’ batting lineup that struggled badly against Bangladesh.

WI vs IND 1st ODI Possible Playing 11

Keemo Paul missed the last ODI against Bangladesh due to a hamstring injury. With Jason Holder back in the ODI setup, the Windies might give Paul more recovery time.

West Indies: 1. Shai Hope (wk), 2. Brandon King, 3. Shamarh Brooks, 4. Kyle Mayers, 5. Nicholas Pooran (c), 6. Rovman Powell, 7. Jason Holder, 8. Akeal Hosein, 9. Alzarri Joseph, 10. Gudakesh Motie, 11. Jayden Seales

According to CricBuzz, Ravindra Jadeja could be rested from this ODI series to manage a knee injury. So, Deepak Hooda could slot in at seven if India decide to play both Gaikwad and Kishan.

India: 1. Shikhar Dhawan (c), 2. Ruturaj Gaikwad, 3. Shreyas Iyer, 4. Ishan Kishan, 5. Suryakumar Yadav, 6. Sanju Samson (wk), 7. Deepak Hooda/Axar Patel/Ravindra Jadeja, 8. Shardul Thakur, 9. Prasidh Krishna, 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Mohammed Siraj/Arshdeep Singh

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

West Indies:

  • Shai Hope will be tasked with holding things together for the Windies. He has scored the most runs of any current Windies player against India in ODIs (733) at an average of 45.81.
  • Nicholas Pooran’s 73 in his last match was more than any Windies player scored in the entire series against Bangladesh.
  • Pooran has a strong record against India in ODIs. In nine matches, the Windies’ captain has scored 354 runs at an average of 44.25 and strike rate of 107.59.
  • Jason Holder’s return gives the Windies much-needed batting and bowling depth. He has 450 runs to his name against India in ODIs (avg. 26.47), but will be aiming to improve on his bowling numbers: 24 inns, 23 wickets, avg. 46.08, econ. 5.59.
  • Alzarri Joseph has taken 16 wickets in 10 ODIs agains India (avg. 32.00), including six in three matches earlier this year. Windies could look to use him against Shreyas Iyer to test him with short balls.
  • Akeal Hosein went wicketless in his last two ODIs against Bangladesh. He had not gone wicketless in his previous 17 matches, and is the leading wicket-taker in ODIs this year (22) among players from Full Member nations.

India:

  • Shikhar Dhawan has sub-par numbers in West Indies. The stand-in India captain has scored 348 runs in 13 innings at an average of 26.76.
  • If it’s a pitch with some extra bounce, Shreyas Iyer might have his work cut out. However, he enjoyed success against West Indies earlier in 2022, with a player of the match performance in the third ODI of that series (80 off 111 balls).
  • Also, Shreyas scored two fifties in as many games on this ground in 2019 (136 runs, avg. 68.00).
  • Suryakumar Yadav comes into this series in fine touch. He scored a terrific century in the third T20I against England and looked in good form in the ODIs despite not making a big score (27 and 16).
  • Prasidh Krishna dominated West Indies earlier this year. The pacer took nine wickets in three matches (avg. 7.55) in a performance that helped him land a big IPL deal.
  • West Indies lost 19 wickets to spin in their three ODIs against Bangladesh. So, expect Yuzvendra Chahal to have a say. The legspinner has taken 13 wickets in seven ODIs vs West Indies at an average of 25.00 and strike rate of 29.4.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 135, West Indies 63, India 67, 2 ties, 4 N/R.
  • West Indies have not beaten India in a bilateral ODI series since May 2006. India have won all 11 series since.
  • Gudakesh Motie took an impressive six wickets in three ODIs vs Bangladesh, including one haul of 4/23.
  • Prasidh Krishna and Yuzvendra Chahal have both taken 14 wickets in ODIs this year. This is the most for India.
  • India have won eight of their last matches at Queen’s Park Oval.

Queen’s Park Oval Port of Spain Pitch Report and Weather

West Indies have called for better pitches in this series after the surfaces suited spin in their 3-0 defeat to Bangladesh. So, this series could see better batting tracks.

The weather forecast is partly cloudy with a top of 30 degrees. Rain is not expected to play a factor.
