Ashes 2023 ENG vs AUS 3rd Test Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report | Ashes 2023 2nd Test Dream11 Prediction Today | Headingley Pitch Report

It’s been all about the “spirit of cricket” in recent days. Now, attention must turn to the cricket itself. That is especially the case for England after feeling hard done by with regards to the Jonny Bairstow dismissal, but must win this Test much to keep their hopes of regaining the Ashes alive.

Truth be told, England were well under par at Lord’s. They were blessed with conditions in their favour for most of the game, but were unable to capitalise due to poor bowling on day one, brainless batting on days two and three, and further poor cricket in the second innings.

At Headingley, there is no room for error against an Australia team that is going about its business quietly. That includes staying in your crease until the ball is dead. Combine this with the fact that the Bazball style of play is a high risk for reward strategy, and the hosts find themselves in a difficult predicament indeed.

However, Australia need not take anything for granted. On the same ground where Ben Stokes was the architect of one of the all-time great wins, victory for England here will only increase the noise and belief among the public that this team on its way back. So the focus for the team, in the great Steve Smith’s 100th Test match, is for another efficient display to kill off the series in what will surely be an intense and raucous atmosphere.

Eyes will be on the opening combination of Warner and Khawaja as they look to enjoy another solid Test. Also, can Marnus Labuschagne get a foothold in the series? Will Smith and Travis Head hurt England again? And, importantly, how well will the attack keep England at bay?

Ashes 2023 ENG vs AUS 3rd Test Dream11 Prediction: Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

England:

  • Joe Root’s lack of runs hurt England at Lord’s. The champion batsman is the highest run-scorer of any current player in Tests at Headingley: 15 inns, 642 runs, avg. 45.85.
  • We can all remember the great innings Ben Stokes played here in 2019. And, it looked as if he would repeat it at Lord’s a few days ago. Expect the skipper to have a big match.
  • Eyes will also be on Jonny Bairstow after his error in England’s run chase. The keeper-batsman has an excellent record at Headingley, with 573 runs at an average of 63.66 and strike rate of 80.81.
  • Stuart Broad has been excellent with the ball. He is the leading wicket-taker this series with 11. Also, no bowler has taken more Test wickets at Headingley than Broad (49).
  • Watch out for Mark Wood. He will test Australia will pace and short deliveries. He has taken 27 wickets in eight Ashes Tests, including superb match figures of 9/152 at Hobart.

Australia:

  • Usman Khawaja has faced 775 deliveries this series. Ben Stokes is next with 346. If Khawaja can grind England down again, Australia will be well placed to make solid scores.
  • Since the start of 2022, Khawaja has struck 1,921 runs at an average of 66.2.
  • Steve Smith will be raring to go in his 100th Test. Australia’s champion batsman just scored his 32nd Test hundred and averages 58.51 in England (2,048 runs).
  • How Travis Head deals with the short ball will be key. If he gets going, watch out. Since the start of 2022, Head has scored 1,291 runs at an average of 51.6 and strike rate of 81.3.
  • Pat Cummins has dismissed Joe Root nine times for 218 runs in Tests (avg. 24.2). This includes the magnificent dismissal in the second innings at Lord’s.
  • Overcast conditions are forecast throughout the Test, so Mitchell Starc will be a factor with his swing, particularly against England’s top three. The left-armer took the opening two wickets within the first five overs in the second dig at Lord’s.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Australia have won five of their past eight Tests in England.
  • Ben Duckett struck twin fifties in the Lord’s Test (98 and 83).
  • Marnus Labuschagne made starts at Lord’s (30 and 47), but Australia’s number three is yet to look his settled self in this series. Here is an opportunity to fire.

Headingley Leeds Pitch Report and Weather

Stuart Broad, in his column for the Daily Mail, called for “result” pitches. The Headingley surface has a green tinge to it on the eve of the contest, with the overhead conditions also likely to favour bowlers.

Expect the team who wins the toss to bowl first with cloudy conditions forecast for day one, before a clear day on Friday. However, to England’s worry, rain is forecast on the final three days, especially three and five. If it’s draw, Australia will retain the Ashes.

The average first innings score at Headingley since the start of 2013 is 253. Interestingly, the team batting second won five of the nine matches in this period.
