Sydney Sixers face-off against the Melbourne Renegades as both the teams take the field on Sunday evening after getting contrasting results in their respective opening matches at the same venue, the Bellerive Oval; the ground where Virat Kohli announced his arrival on the big stage back in 2012.
The defending champions were off to a lacklustre start against the Hurricanes but they had their moments in the match as they picked 2 wickets in 2 overs at the start of the match. Also, they were well-placed at the halfway mark in the chase which earned them a Bash Boost point. They will have to capitalize these moments to get three or possibly four points against the Renegades.
As for the Renegades, after reducing the Scorchers to 19-3, they always had the upper hand and the new ball spell is as important as any for the Renegades. Finch and Marsh then made light work of the chase but it might not come that easy against the Sixers.
The Sydney Sixers played the Renegades twice last season and were on the right side of the result on both the occasions. In one of them, Aaron Finch scored a century but Smith and Phillipe scored fifties to ensure Sixers won the game.

Melbourne Renegades:
- Aaron Finch scored 35 runs against Scorchers and gave a stable start to his side. The team will hope that their captain builds on to this momentum, and produces something similar to last season vs Sixers where he scored a century.
- Shaun Marsh scored a fluent 62-run knock in the chase and that was just the desired start for the southpaw and the Renegades in their opening game. Marsh was the fifth-highest run-scorer in BBL 09 with 449 at an average of 37.41.
- Lalor and Kane Richardson broke the back of the Scorchers’ batting line-up as they reduced the 3-time champions to 19-3 and the Ashton Turner-led side failed to recover from the initial blows. They will aim to do the same against the Sixers.
- Lalor has a superb record vs Sixers in BBL. He has 13 wickets in seven games against them.
Sydney Sixers
- Ben Dwarshuis is the leading wicket-taker between the two sides with 10 scaps in eight matches.
- Josh Philippe struck 61 off 42 balls in his last match vs Renegades. Can he produce that form here? He has a good overall record vs Renegades, with 186 runs in five knocks at an average of 37.20 and SR 136.76.
- James Vince scored a valiant 67 against the Hurricanes, which included 8 boundaries and a couple of maximums. Also, Vince was player of the match against Renegades last season, with 41 off 26 balls.
- Dan Christian is coming off three wickets vs Hurricanes.
- Ben Manenti was impressive in the powerplay vs Hurricanes, and Sixers will hope that off-spinner continues to perform against Marsh and Finch.

Although the Renegades were victorious in their previous game, there is a chance that they might be fatigued by playing two games in as many days. The Sixers will be fresh and have the capability to handle Lalor and Richardson who were key in the victory. So, Sixers’ win shouldn’t surprise anyone.
