BBL09 Match 42: ST vs SS Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | ST vs SS Dream11 | Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers Preview Dream11 Prediction | Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers Key Players | ST vs SS Dream11 Prediction
There always seems to be drama in a Sydney Thunder game. Australia has been short on rain in recent times, but the Thunder have had two rain-affected games this season, along with an abandoned game due to smoke.
Today, rain could play spoilsport again as welcome wet weather is forecast for Sydney right throughout Saturday.
This affects Sydney Sixers, too, who are aiming for a top two spot. Their aspirations were harmed a little by their own abandoned game a couple of nights ago at the SCG; they will be hoping there is enough game-time to try and get a victory in BBL09’s second Sydney Smash.
Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
- Daniel Hughes is the current leading run-scorer for Sixers in Sixers-Thunder matches: 311 runs, avg. 77.75, SR: 123.41.
- Tom Curran was the star in the earlier meeting between the teams this season. He took 2/23 and scored a rapid 35 to take the game into a Super Over.
- Curran scored 62 (40) and took 3/24 at the Sydney Showground Stadium last season. In total, he has 97 runs and seven wickets in three games vs Thunder.
- Last game vs Renegades, Daniel Sams went wicketless for the first time in BBL09. However, he remains the leading wicket-taker in the competition, and took 3/30 in the corresponding game last season.
- Sams at Sydney Showground this season: 3/25, 2/24 and 2/29.
- Usman Khawaja has not been in the best form. His last five scores: 1, 11, 33, 35 and 0. However, he averages 46 in in six innings vs Sixers.
- Callum Ferguson is also on a run of low scores. However, he was very unluckily run out off the bowler last game. His 52 (42) earlier the season vs Sixers gave the Thunder a competitive total.
- The two Alex’s for Thunder are in some good touch. Alex Hales has 132 runs in his past four knocks, averaging 43.00. Alex Ross took 26 off one Mohammad Nabi over last game, and has fine numbers this season: 217 runs at 43.40, SR 137.34.
- Moises Henriques vs Thunder: 280 runs at 40.00, SR: 132.08.
- Lloyd Pope took 3/23 vs Thunder earlier this season. However, Nathan Lyon is back and could take his spot.
- Steve O’Keefe took 2/27 on this ground last season. However, can O’Keefe improve on his overall record of four wickets in eight games vs Thunder?
- Chris Morris went for a few runs at the death in his meeting with Sixers earlier this season. However, he wicket-taking ability (11 in eight games) cannot be understated.
- Liam Bowe took 2/23 in his last game.

Sydney Showground Pitch Report and Conditions
The weather forecast doesn’t look too promising for this match. However, if there are breaks in the rain and there is play, the ball could skid onto the bat nicely as was the case in Brisbane Heat’s visit to this ground just under two weeks ago.

Match Prediction
Provided the weather holds, this could be an exciting, close clash.
Sydney Thunder’s season is spiralling out of control a little. While they have talent in their ranks, Sixers could have the better resources for a shortened game if it turns out to be the case.
