If there is a side whose season has capitulated after a promising start, it is Hobart Hurricanes.

The loss of D’Arcy Short, James Faulkner and Riley Meredith has hurt their campaign. Their season is now on life support as they sit three points outside the top five, with three games remaining after this one. It is must-win territory.

On the other hand, Adelaide Strikers have impressed for the most part. Their bowling was a big let down last season, but they have come good this time around, highlighted in two of their past three games where they bowled out Renegades and Heat for 110 and 100 respectively.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Jake Weatherald was man-of-the-match in Strikers’ last game at Launceston. He struck a superb 82* off 42 balls.
  • In Hurricanes vs Strikers last season on this ground, the openers had a good time of things. 88, 26, 54 and 82 were the scores.
  • Matthew Wade vs Strikers: 192 runs, avg. 96.00, SR: 165.52.
  • Phil Salt got going in the last game vs Heat. It will be interesting to see if he can back up well this time, after a run of five low scores after his previous 50+ score.
  • Jono Wells is averaging over 61 with 300+ runs in BBL09.
  • Travis Head has 146 runs (avg. 36.50) and three wickets vs Hurricanes in five games against them.
  • Ben McDermott (five matches) and George Bailey (10 matches) average 22.50 and 13.00 respectively vs Strikers. An improvement is needed.
  • Rashid Khan and Michael Neser took two wickets each on this ground last season.
  • Rashid is currently third for most wickets in BBL09, with 16 in 10 matches.
  • Scott Boland is having a strong BBL09 campaign for Hobart Hurricanes: 2/29, 3/16, 1/33, 1/45 and 1/11 (2).
  • Peter Siddle has four wickets in three games vs Hurricanes. He also has 11 wickets in nine games in BBL09.
  • Liam O’Connor is coming off 3/30 vs Heat.

Launceston Pitch Report and Conditions

The first game at Launceston last season saw Perth Scorchers crawl to 107/8, before it took Hobart Hurricanes 17.3 overs to chase it down.

The next game was more free-flowing for the batsmen, with the openers of the Hurricanes and Strikers performing well. Here, an even-paced pitch can be expected, with the spinners to play a key role in the middle overs.

Match Prediction

Consider it an upset if Hobart Hurricanes can beat Adelaide Strikers today.

Given the form of the two teams, as well as the experience in them, the Strikers should prove too good.
