Cricket News: What was Ravindra Jadeja putting on his finger during the Nagpur Test? | Ravindra Jadeja stirrs reactions around incident

Andy Pycroft, the match referee for the ongoing India vs Australia match in Nagpur, has been duly informed by the Indian team management that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was applying pain relief on his finger in the widely circulated clip from the day one of the Test.

Jadeja took a substance from the back of Mohammed Siraj’s hand and then applied it to the index finger of his left hand prior to one of his overs. Pyrcoft took the matter up with Jadeja, Rohit Sharma and the Indian team manager post stumps on the opening day of the game.

The Australian team management did not inform the referee of this incident, ESPN Cricinfo reports. Instead, Pycroft opted to voluntarily probe the issue and did not charge Jadeja whatsoever. Moreover, bowlers require to take the due permission of the umpires before applying any substance on their hands. This rule is imposed to ensure that the ball condition remains unaffected.

Jadeja has made a sensational return to international cricket after his nearly six-month-long injury layoff. The Saurashtra superstar took a five-wicket haul in the first innings, dismissing the key Australian duo of Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne in the process.

Jadeja then followed it up with an unbeaten 66 off 170 deliveries to take India to 321/7 at stumps on day two. India have now garnered a substantial first-innings lead of 144 runs and will look at add on to this advantage on the third day of play on Saturday.
