England’s Left-Handed Batsman Dawid Malan smashed it hard in the T20 match against Australia by scoring 42 from just 32 balls in the second T20 in Southampton. The 87-run partnership with Jos Buttler led to a convincing win on Sunday. The 33-year-old is riding high on an average of more than 50 after 15 T20 internationals. While interacting with the media, the player said that he wants to secure a place in the team by the sheer weight of his numbers.
Both the teams having an enviable batting depth are fighting to secure the top rank in T20 cricket and Malan acknowledges this fierce competition to secure a place. While addressing the international comparisons with the Indian captain, Malan said, “I don’t think I’m anywhere near as good as Virat Kohli and those guys even though the numbers are sort of suggesting that, maybe if I played 50 games I could be compared to some extent. But all I can do is score runs. If I keep scoring runs at the rate I’m scoring at hopefully it will make it hard for them to ignore what I’m doing and I can somehow find a way into that starting XI.”
Aiming for the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to be held in India, Malan is only relying on his batting to get an entry in the starting XI. “If I keep scoring runs at the rate I’m scoring at hopefully it will make it hard for them to ignore what I’m doing and I can somehow find a way into that starting XI. They look to plan, so you play in conditions and with game plans that will potentially suit the T20 World Cup in India, which is why I think we are playing on used wickets here,” he said.
England will look to seal the T20I series 3-0 against Australia, ahead of the ODIs.
