IPL 2019: MI vs DC Preview Dream11. Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals Preview Dream11 Prediction
Preview co-written by @Jaishreeram1898
The third match of IPL 2019 is upon us. MI, three time champions, will be looking to finally make a good start to an IPL campaign. DC, after a bottom-placed finish in IPL 2018, will be hoping for the same. They haven’t won an IPL Title, but there is no doubt they can’t be taken lightly.
Mumbai Indians missing out on the playoffs was one of the shocks of IPL 2018. However, with their prowess at the business end of IPL tournaments, they are indeed one of the favourites in a very competitive league. They look one of the most balanced sides under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, with their batting and bowling looking pretty well covered. Can they finally win the first game of an IPL tournament after four years?
The rebranded Delhi Capitals will be hoping that the new name means new results. Their IPL 2018 campaign was disappointing, but we saw the further rise of Rishabh Pant. Like MI, DC have struggled in first games of IPL tournaments, winning just four of 11. However, they are a young, fresh side, and fans can be hoping for an exciting campaign under Shreyas Iyer. Can they made a statement right away?

Key to a MI win
Rohit Sharma’s form at nos. 3 and 4 wasn’t consistent enough in IPL 2018. This played a big role in MI’s demise, falling just short of a playoffs place. Ahead of IPL 2019, Rohit Sharma has promised he will open in every game, which gives him the opportunity to give MI a strong start. With either Evin Lewis or Quinton de Kock likely to join him, a strong MI powerplay is well within the realms of possibility. With Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, the Pandya brothers and Kieron Pollard to follow, MI can look to put pressure on a DC attack that can leak runs, despite its talent.
Also, MI’s pace stocks have taken a hit. Adam Milne has been ruled out of the tournament with a heel injury, and Lasith Malinga will miss at least the first six games to play domestic 50-over cricket ahead of the World Cup. However, MI’s depth is a real strength of theirs, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell McClenaghan crucial at the top for MI. With the Pandya brothers, Ben Cutting and Mayank Markande on hand, MI will be out to get the better of a very talented looking DC lineup.
Key to a DC win
Shreyas Iyer was superb in the recent Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, Colin Ingram was excellent in the PSL and Rishabh Pant was IPL 2018’s second-highest run scorer. With the exciting Prithvi Shaw, experienced Shikhar Dhawan and potentially damaging Colin Munro also on hand, DC have a super exciting top six. How they cope with MI’s variety will be key to their performance, with a strong powerplay vital to a big total. Will they deliver to help get a victory first up?
Also, can DC’s bowling attack get the better of MI’s top order? Trent Boult was excellent at times in a difficult 2018 season for Delhi, and any movement he can get will be key. With variety in their spin attack thanks to Sandeep Lamichhane, Axar Patel and Amit Mishra, DC have the slow bowlers to back up quality work from the seamers, which also includes the promising Avesh Khan. Can they create some nerves for MI early and then build on it?
Possible Playing 11
As mentioned, Rohit Sharma is set to open for MI. One of Evin Lewis or Quinton de Kock will likely partner him. It remains to be seen whether MI go with Ben Cutting for an extra pace option, or Yuvraj Singh, who struggled in IPL 2018.

Match Prediction
What a cracking match this promises to be. It is the experience of MI against the youth of DC.
It is a really difficult one to predict, given how both sides struggle in their opening games. As I have chosen MI to have a huge season, I will pick them to take this game out in a tight one.
