Cricket News: How fit is Joe Root & who bats the longest in the nets? Roy, Topley & Evans tell all | Jason Roy, Laurie Evans, Reece Topley interview with Betway

England cricketers Laurie Evans, Reece Topley and Jason Roy have given fans a deeper look into the personalities and traits of other cricketers. In a funny interview with Betway, the trio provided some insights on their Surrey and England teammates.

How fit is Joe Root & which England player spends the most time in the nets?

Joe Root continues to amaze on the international circuit. England’s second-highest run-scorer in Tests prides himself on his fitness, a key reason for his prolonged success.

Asked about who is the best on the bleep test, Jason Roy said, “Arun Harinath, from my experience, was unbelievable. Joe Root could just run for absolute days.”

With regards to which player is always last out of the nets, Evans and Topley were unanimous on England wicket-keeper Ben Foakes and batsman Ollie Pope.

“He [Foakes] always comes in for a second and third hit,” said Laurie Evans. “Popey’s another long one,” said Topley. “It takes a long time, especially when we are travelling everywhere on coaches at the minute, and we’re all having to wait for Popey and Foakesy to wrap up their hits.”

Hashim Amla, Kumar Sangakkara and others have had a big impact

Asked about which players have helped them improve, Evans spoke of Hashim Amla’s influence. The South African legend was always a calm presence in his international career, and that has also shone through in his county stints.

“I quite enjoy Hashim Amla. Just as a calming influence over the dressing room,” said Evans.

“The mental side of things, 100%,” said Jason Roy. “We’ve been blessed with overseas players that you can’t believe. Kumar Sangakkara, Hash [Hashim Amla], Ricky Ponting, Graeme Smith.”

What are some of the cricketers like outside of cricket?

The trio also discussed:

  • The messiest roommate
  • Best footballer
  • Who wears the most outrageous gear
  • Who they would trust to take a catch to save their life
