Marco Jansen has moved to the top of both the bowler and all-rounder rankings in men’s Test cricket.
Jansen is enjoying a dream series against Australia, where he played a vital role in South Africa’s series-levelling win in Gqeberha. He scored a game-turning 85 off 100 balls before taking six wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
His 5/33 helped skittle Australia for 99, enabling South Africa to enforce the follow on and eventually win the Test by an innings and 31 runs.
Marco Jansen tops Test bowler and all-rounder rankings
Jansen overtook Mitchell Starc, Matt Henry, Ollie Robinson and Jasprit Bumrah to take the number one ranking for bowlers. Starc made his own big impact in the Cape Town Test, taking 6/72 – including four wickets in six deliveries – to bowl South Africa out for 329.
In terms of the all-rounder rankings, Jansen moved from second to first, overtaking India’s Ravindra Jadeja. It is the first time Jadeja has lost the number one all-rounder ranking in more than four years. He will be back in action next month in New Zealand.
Elsewhere, Scott Boland moved to sixth in the Test bowling rankings after his five-for in Gqeberha. Simon Harmer moved to eighth in the all-rounder rankings after his 82 and four wickets in the same Test.
