In an unusual move, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has questioned the selection committee over the selection of Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan for the tours of West Indies and England. The selectors have been asked to give reasons for their decisions and the process they followed for picking the two players.
The PCB has issued show cause notices to the selection committee members, including former Pakistan players Aaqib Javed, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq, asking them to explain their actions. The committee has been given 24 hours to reply to the notice.
Pakistan Selection Committee Asked to Justify Player Selections
PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed issued the notice. The selectors have been asked to reveal the selection criteria, recent performances, and other factors that were accounted for before selecting Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan.
The move comes just hours after the PCB made sweeping changes to Pakistan’s Test squad for the ongoing England tour. Seven players were axed from the squad before the third Test and there were changes to the coaching staff as well, including relieving head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul from their duties.
The latest move has also come amid reports that Misbah-ul-Haq has offered his resignation from the selection committee panel this same evening, the PCB has reportedly not yet accepted his resignation.
