Scott Boland was absolutely sensational during the recently-concluded 2024-25 Australian summer. The Victorian pacer was picking wickets for fun during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where the Aussies prevailed 3-1.

Boland was one of the best performers during the high-profile series despite not starting in the first Test. He picked up 21 wickets in three Tests at an astonishing average of 13.19.

Now, Boland is looking forward to the 2025 ICC World Test Championship Final. The grand finale is scheduled to start on June 11 against South Africa at Lord’s. Boland had played a major hand in his side winning the World Test Championship Final 2023, which saw the Aussies win the ICC trophy. Thus, all eyes will be on Boland as people would be eager to see if he is picked in the XI and whether he can replicate his heroics against the Proteas.

During an exclusive interview with Arvind Kalyana Krishnan for CricBlog, Scott Boland drew light on the highly-anticipated game. He stated that he’s looking forward to the Final, and has already started training for the same. Despite Australia’s pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and captain Pat Cummins being termed as one of the greatest pace attacks of this generation, Boland’s consistent performances have made it very hard for the selectors to ignore him.

Speaking at an event where Cricket Australia announced the schedule for the 2025-26 home season, Boland also expressed his excitement over the upcoming Ashes. The Victorian lad said that he’ll be working on plans for all the English batters. Despite it being 8-9 months away, Boland was already thinking about the marquee event.

Besides, fans still recall Melbourne’s local hero making his international debut during Ashes 2021-22 at the MCG, where he dismantled the English batters and took 6/7 in the second innings. It was this match that made Boland a local hero, and enabled him to get a cult fan following.

Moreover, During the five-match Test series against India during the recently-concluded summer, Boland had publicly revealed their plan to dismiss Virat Kohli during the SCG Test. He managed to execute their plan to perfection and dismissed the star Indian batter in the exact same way he mentioned. This made him grab the headlines across the globe.

Scott Boland interview: Ashes is going to be a huge spectacle

Below is the conversation between Arvind Kalyana Krishnan and Scott Boland:

Arvind Kalyana Krishnan: We have the WTC Final and although we aren’t aware of the squad or playing XI, how do you perceive it to be? Have you started preparing for it?

Scott Boland: Yeah, I’ve had my eye towards that game since we qualified in January. So yeah, I’ll be doing everything I can in the next 2 or 3 months to make sure I’m right for that game on June 11.

Arvind Kalyana Krishnan: It was in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where you publicly stated that you have a plan for Virat and that worked. So for the Ashes, will you have a plan for Root (Joe Root)? Or it’s only special for Virat?

Scott Boland: (Laughs) No, we’re going to have plans for all the batters that come out. Obviously, playing England in the Ashes is going to be a huge spectacle. We’re going to get some really good crowds. There’s going to be some really aggressive cricket, probably from both teams but yeah, that’s nine months away so I’m sure I’ll get some plans in place before then (smiles).
