Cricket News: Twitter reactions as Virat Kohli steps down from RCB captaincy | Virat Kohli announces he will step down from RCB captaincy after IPL 2021

Virat Kohli has represented IPL franchise side Royal Challengers Bangalore since the tournament started back in 2008. He was promoted to the role of captaincy after five years in 2013 and has held that role ever since.

During that time, we have seen some whirlwind seasons from the side but for Kohli as a player, we definitely know that captaincy doesn’t affect his batting. On a batting front he has had some mammoth seasons. Since being appointed skipper, he has managed to surpass 300 runs in every season and ended up as the highest run-scorer for his team in six out of the eight seasons.

But Virat Kohli would love to change the fortunes for his side and looking back at the season results since he took over,

2013 – Fifth

2014 – Seventh

2015 – Playoffs

2016 – Runners-up

2017 – Eighth

2018 – Sixth

2019 – Eighth

2020 – Playoffs

On 19th September 2021, after stepping down as the national team captain in the T20 format, Virat Kohli announced that the current IPL 2021 season will be his last as the captain for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. So, in a matter of days, Virat Kohli’s career as a T20 captain – both for franchise and country – is set to come to an end in the coming weeks.
