Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow combined for an incredible 269-run stand in what seemed like the blink of an eye. Bairstow scored his fourth ton in his past three Tests. Root notched up his 28th Test ton in another batting masterclass. It was carnage, and India’s bowling attack, rightly considered one of the best in the world, had no answers.

India’s wait for a series win in England since 2007 will continue. It is their third straight defeat away from home, all by the margin of seven wickets.
