THU vs SIX Dream11 Prediction Fantasy Cricket Tips Possible 11 Pitch Report – BBL 2023-24 Match 19 | ST vs SS Dream11 Prediction Today | Sydney Showground Pitch Report

The New Year period is always an exciting time, especially in the Big Bash League (BBL). It means the Sydney Smash is here, and this one is certainly important for Sydney Thunder. Chris Green’s team have endured an inconsistent season so far, currently sitting in second-last position, but a win will put them into fourth.

Sydney Sixers look as efficient as ever and start this match as favourites. They did lose their last match to Melbourne Stars, but they are well placed in third position. Also, they have beaten the Thunder four times in a row. A fifth will further cement their spot in the top five as the playoffs start to appear over the horizon.

There are a few key battles to look forward to, which the Thunder need to win. While defeat won’t be terminal, they can’t afford a defeat with teams like Melbourne Stars, Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades showing good signs in recent matches.

In this article, we’ll look at the possible playing XIs, Sydney Showground pitch report, Dream11 fantasy tips and more for this important THU vs SIX clash.

It’s desperation time for Melbourne Renegades. Sitting bottom of the table with four defeats and a no-result from five games, the time is now for the Renegades to get their season going.

Nic Maddinson’s team certainly had their chances on Boxing Day against Perth Scorchers. They finished well with the ball and had the chase in their hands, but they let things slip when it mattered most. Today, the key is holding their nerve in the big moments.

Adelaide Strikers also need a win. They are currently in fifth position and are also coming off a botched run chase against Sydney Sixers. They had the game in their hands back on December 22, so they’ve had a week to think things through ahead of this important clash.

In this article, we’ll look at the possible playing XIs, fantasy cricket tips, Dream11 prediction & Marvel Stadium pitch report.

NZ vs BAN 2nd T20 2023 Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report | NZ vs BAN 2nd T20 Dream11 Prediction Today | Mount Maunganui Pitch Report

Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand moves to Mount Maunganui after sealing an excellent win in the first T20I in Napier on Wednesday. The Tigers’ bowlers led the way, restricting the Black Caps to just 134/9 courtesy of a brilliant start where Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam blew the New Zealand top order away. Litton Das and Mahedi then held their nerve to deliver victory with eight balls to spare.

Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team come into this game on the back of two straight wins on this tour. The key now is delivering with a rare away T20I series win beckoning. If the bowlers can produce the kind of returns they have done over the past few days, anything is possible.

For New Zealand, they need a better start up top. While they aren’t at full strength, there is still enough experience and quality to produce better than what they did in the first T20I. After all, you can’t win many games after falling to 1/3 within two overs.

Match Details

  • Date: Friday December 29, 2023.
  • Time: 7:10pm (local), 11:40am (IST).

List of highest successful run chases in Tests at the MCG

Cricket News: Top 5 highest successful run chases in Tests at the MCG | What is the highest run chase at the MCG?

The iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has played host to 117 Test matches in its proud history. There have been countless memorable performances spanning decades, with the Boxing Day Test one of the best occasions on the Australian sporting calendar.

Batting last at this ground has often proven to be tricky over the years. However, there have been some superb run chases at the famous MCG. In this article, we’ll look at the top five.

Top 5 highest successful run chases in Tests at the MCG

5. England 282/9 vs Australia, 1908

We have to go way back to 1908 for the fifth-highest successful run chase in Tests at the MCG. England won an absolute thriller, chasing 282 with one wicket to spare courtesy of contributions right down the batting order. In fact, only George Gunn (0) was dismissed for a single figure score, with Frederick Fane top scoring with 50. Then, the great Sydney Barnes (38*) and Arthur Fielder (18*) combined for 39 runs for the final wicket.

Earlier in the Test, Kenneth Hutchings’ 126 helped England gain a 116-run lead. Australia then had five half-centurions in their reply to leave the tourists with 282 to win.

4. Australia 287/5 vs England, 1929

Sir Donald Bradman struck one of his 29 total Test centuries during the 1929 MCG Test against England. After England hit a mammoth 519 in their first innings, Australia replied with 491 to stay in with a shout of victory. Led by Thomas Wall’s 5/66, the Australians then knocked England over for 257, leaving them with 286 to chase.

In the fourth innings, all of Australia’s seven batsmen hit double-figure scores, with John Ryder (57* off 172 balls) and Sir Donald Bradman (37* off 89 balls) putting on an unbroken 83-run stand to seal the five-wicket win.

3. South Africa 297/4 vs Australia, 1953

South Africa have blessed fans with magnificent players throughout their cricketing history. That was the case in 1953 as the tourists pulled off a superb chase of their 295-run target with a huge six wickets to spare.

The South Africans had contributions from their batting order right through this Test. They have five half-centurions in their first-innings total of 435 in response to Australia’s huge 520. Then, Edward Fuller (5/66) helped produce a third-innings heist by dismissing the Australians for just 209 which opened the door for a South Africa win. In the end, William Endean (70) and Roy McLean (76*) led the way to seal victory.

2. England 298/4 vs Australia, 1895

The fifth Test of the 1894-95 Ashes series belond to England. Yet again, a big first innings score ended up in defeat after Australia hit 414 with Joseph Darling (74) and Syd Gregory (70) the top-scorers. Archibald MacLaren (120) led the way in England’s response as they hit 385 to stay close to par on the first innings.

In the all-important third innings, Thomas Richardson (6/104) toiled effectively for 45.2 overs to help dismiss Australia for 267. In reply, Albert Ward (93) and John Brown (140) put on 210 for the third wicket to all but seal the chase.

1. England 332/7 vs Australia, 1928

The only successful run chase of over 300 at the MCG came way back in 1928. England took a 20-run lead in the first innings thanks to the great Wally Hammond’s 200 in their total of 417. Australia then responded with a solid 351 with William Woodfull (107) and Sir Donald Bradman (112) hitting tons. But, Herbert Sutcliffe had the final say, batting 462 balls in the fourth innings for his 135 to help seal the chase with three wickets to spare.

In terms of the most recent chases, India were the last team to win batting last at the MCG. They needed just 70 to win in 2020. The previous successful chase was by Australia in the 2013/14 Ashes, where they knocked off 231 with eight wickets to spare.

The highest since 1953? Australia’s 258/8 against West Indies in 1961.

HUR vs STA Dream11 Prediction Fantasy Cricket Tips Possible 11 Pitch Report BBL 2023/24 Match 17

HUR vs STA Dream11 Prediction Fantasy Cricket Tips Possible 11 Pitch Report BBL 2023/24 Match 17 | HUR vs STA Dream11 Prediction Today | Hobart Pitch Report

Hobart Hurricanes will take on Melbourne Stars in a crucial match where the winner will move into the top five on the BBL 13 table. Both teams picked up much needed victories in their previous outing. The Hurricanes blew the Renegades away, while the Stars upset the fancied Sydney Sixers at the SCG two nights ago.

The key now for both teams is consistency. Matthew Wade found form and Macallister Wright has given the Hurricanes hope that they can nail that number three spot. If they can set a strong platform, there is enough power in the middle order to take advantage.

Similar applies to the Stars. They are still short of runs in their top order, so a good start here sets things up for the trio of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright. Plus, Usama Mir will be looking to build on his excellent performance in Sydney earlier this week.

Match Details

  • Date: Thursday December 28, 2023.
  • Time: 7:15pm (local), 1:45pm (IST).
  • Location: Bellerive Oval, Hobart.

HUR vs STA Possible Playing XIs

Hurricanes may stick with the same XI that beat the Melbourne Renegades, but how they fit Ben McDermott will be interesting to see.

Hobart Hurricanes: 1. Matthew Wade (wk), 2. Caleb Jewell/Ben McDermott, 3. Mac Wright, 4. Sam Hain, 5. Tim David, 6. Corey Anderson, 7. Nikhil Chaudhary, 8. Chris Jordan, 9. Patrick Dooley, 10. Nathan Ellis (c), 11. Riley Meredith

Melbourne Stars have named their squad. It will be the final game for both Usama Mir and Haris Rauf.

Melbourne Stars: 1. Tom Rogers, 2. Sam Harper (wk), 3. Beau Webster, 4. Glenn Maxwell (c), 5. Marcus Stoinis, 6. Hilton Cartwright, 7. Imad Wasim, 8. Jonathan Merlo, 9. Usama Mir, 10. Joel Paris/Mark Steketee, 11. Haris Rauf

  • Sam Harper also has a fine career record against the Hurricanes: 10 inns, 298 runs, avg. 42.57, SR 150.51. He has smashed 76 off 43 balls against Riley Meredith in T20s (one dismissal).
  • Haris Rauf took a five-wicket haul in the single match he’s played against Hobart back in 2019. Usama Mir is coming off a three-wicket haul against the Sydney Sixers (3/19).

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 19, Hurricanes 7, Stars 12.
  • Both teams have won four games each against each other on this ground.
  • Hurricanes could look to use Patrick Dooley early to Marcus Stoinis. The spinner dismissed Stoinis in the single delivery he bowled to him.
  • Beau Webster has scored 55 off 33 balls against Nathan Ellis (one dismissal).

Bellerive Oval Hobart Pitch Report and Weather

There is a chance of a shower or two, but there should be a full match. This ground is typically excellent for batting, as on show in the match on December 23 where Hobart Hurricanes chased the Renegades’ 183 with an over to spare. Also, seamers tend to have more success here, but Paddy Dooley (2/32 last game) has an impressive 11 wickets in five matches on this ground.

Reactions: Pat Cummins bowls Babar Azam with a peach at the MCG

Cricket News: Reactions – Pat Cummins bowls Babar Azam with a peach at the MCG | Pat Cummins dismisses Babar Azam with another beauty

Australia needed a spark with Pakistan sitting pretty at 124/1 in pursuit of 318 in the first innings. Pat Cummins, as he has done so often in recent months, delivered the goods, producing one of his classic spells to finish day two of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG with figures of 3/37.

After a wayward start to his spell, the Australian captain found his groove. First, he dismissed Abdullah Shafique, who played nicely for his 62, thanks to an excellent caught and bowled. But, he saved his best for Babar Azam once again, producing a gem of a delivery to castle Pakistan’s premier batsman through the gate.

Cummins got the ball to nip back beautifully to hit the top of offstump. What is special about Cummins is not only this one delivery, but also how he’s been able to set Babar up throughout this series so far. In the first Test at Perth, Cummins did not leave the good length in the channel, where Babar eventually nicked behind to Alex Carey. In Melbourne, Babar was beaten on the inside edge and heard timber.

The spell turned the match on its head. After Pakistan had visions of challenging the Australians in this Test, Cummins almost slammed the door shut, with the visitors to begin day three on 194/6, still 124 runs behind. With the surface offering movement and some turn, Pakistan face an uphill task to keep the series alive.

Fans react to Pat Cummins peach to dismiss Babar Azam

Fans praised Cummins for his relentless consistency and skill. However, others also criticised Babar Azam for the manner in which he played the delivery. The consensus among those is such a player should display tighter technique.

Here are some the reactions to another peach from the Australian captain.

https://twitter.com/sshayaannn/status/1739978148958380440

As mentioned, Pakistan will begin day three 124 runs behind as they seek not only to keep this series alive, but break their run of 15 consecutive Test match defeats in Australia.

But, the Thunder head into this clash with some confidence. They picked up a crucial win over Melbourne Stars on Saturday, where Zaman Khan (3/24), Daniel Sams (4/33) and the batsmen delivered. HEA vs THU Dream11 Prediction – Fantasy Cricket Tips: Key Picks & Player Stats

Brisbane Heat:

  • Paul Walter is a solid pick for Dream11 fantasy teams. He is generating points with both bat and ball. Last game, he won player of the match, taking 3/27 and striking 30* (15) against the Melbourne Renegades.
  • Walter took 2/22 vs. the Sydney Thunder also this season. He dismissed Alex Ross and Nathan McAndrew. Given he bowls later in the innings, Walter can be in the wickets again.
  • Colin Munro is currently the second-highest run-scorer in this BBL (157). He hit 46 against Sydney Thunder two weeks ago. Also, he has scored 70 off 42 balls against Daniel Sams (two dismissals) and 65 off 44 balls against Nathan McAndrew (one dismissal).
  • Sam Billings has an excellent record in T20s at the Gabba: 6 inns, 216 runs, avg. 36.00, SR 168.75.
  • Michael Neser dismissed Alex Hales first ball in their previous meeting. His fast bowling partner, Xavier Bartlett, has taken seven wickets in six matches vs. Thunder at an average of 20.86 and economy of 8.50.
  • Mitchell Swepson is in terrific touch. He has taken six wickets at an economy of just 6.80 so far this season. This includes a player-of-the-match 2/26 against the Thunder where he pinned Cameron Bancroft LBW and bowled Daniel Sams.

Sydney Thunder:

  • Cameron Bancroft is in good form. He has struck 129 runs in three matches so far this season at an average of 43.00 and strike rate of 138.70.
  • Bancroft has never been dismissed by Michael Neser in T20s: 37 balls, 51 runs.
  • Alex Hales has made three 30+ scores in four innings at the Gabba. Overall, he has hit 140 runs at an average of 35.00 and strike rate of 140.00.
  • Daniel Sams is coming off a four-wicket haul against the Stars, where he took three in the final over. Given he bowls up front and at the death, Sams could have further wicket-taking opportunities.
  • Against Heat, Sams has picked up 17 wickets in 11 innings at an average of 20.53 and economy of 9.61. He has also smashed 179 runs at an average of 25.57 and strike rate of 201.12.
  • Chris Green has taken 15 wickets in as many matches against Brisbane Heat. He took 1/30 and scored 30 (20) two weeks ago. Plus, he could be the man to keep Colin Munro quiet as the left-hander strikes at just 117.4 against him (121 balls, 142 runs, four dismissals).
  • Zaman Khan has been superb with his yorkers. He will be a factor at the death again. He was recently player of the match against the Stars after taking 3/24.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 20, Heat 12, Thunder 7, N/R 1.
  • Heat lead Thunder 4-2 in matches at the Gabba.

Gabba Brisbane Pitch Report and Weather

There has been plenty of rain and storms in Brisbane in recent days. But, conditions should be mostly fine on matchday. However, it will be interesting to see how the pitch plays given it would have been under cover for extended periods. It could be on the slower side.

Earlier this season, Colin Munro’s 99* helped Brisbane Heat ammass 214/3 against Melbourne Stars. Last season, the average first innings score was 179 in five matches, with the team batting first winning three times.

5 best value for money picks in the IPL 2024 Auction

Cricket Opinion: A look at the top 5 best value for money picks from the 2024 IPL Auction

The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction made headlines for the astronomical, record-breaking sums. Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in IPL history (24.75cr) less than two hours after Australian teammate Pat Cummins (20.5cr) broke the previous record held by Sam Curran.

However, the auction was also home to some excellent value-for-money picks. These players were expected to go for bigger amounts, but the franchise who won their services wouldn’t be complaining. Not only do they have an excellent player in their ranks, but they have it at a relatively cheap price.

IPL 2024 Auction: Top 5 best value for money picks

Here is a look at CricBlog’s top five best value-for-money purchases at the IPL 2024 Auction.

Rachin Ravindra to CSK for 1.8 crore

Talented New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra was tipped to go for big money. Instead, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) picked up a steal, landing Ravindra for 1.8 crore (approx. US$216,000).

Ravindra made headlines in the 2023 Cricket World Cup. His tournament well and truly put him on the map, smashing 578 runs at an average of 64.22 and strike rate of 106.44 along with five wickets. His batting against spin should come in handy at Chepauk, and his all-round talent will make MS Dhoni’s team even harder to beat as they push for back-to-back titles.

Wanindu Hasaranga to SRH for 1.5 crore

Cricket Opinion: A look at the top 5 best value for money picks from the 2024 IPL Auction

He may have struggled with injuries in recent times, but Wanindu Hasaranga to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at his base price of 1.5 crore (approx. US$180,000) is an excellent pick. Hasaranga provides SRH with an attacking option in the middle overs. In fact, out of his 35 IPL wickets so far, 23 have come between overs 7-16 where he strikes every 19.3 deliveries on average.

Also, Hasaranga provides a lower-order hitting advantage for SRH. However, the key for the franchise will be how they fit Hasaranga into their plans with a number of very talented overseas players at their disposal.

Azmatullah Omarzai to GT for 50 lakh

Like Ravindra, Azmatullah Omarzai had a terrific Cricket World Cup campaign. The 23-year old Afghan made a huge impression in the middle order, playing a key role in Afghanistan’s promising campaign. He finished with 353 runs at an average of 70.60 and strike rate of 97.78, with three fifties in eight innings. In addition, he took seven wickets.

Gujarat Titans (GT) would be thrilled to land his services for just 50 lakh (approx. US$60,000). While replacing Hardik Pandya is a massive ask, he can certainly provide GT with impetus in the middle order and handy overs with the ball.

Harry Brook to DC for 4 crore

Harry Brook did not live up to his price tag in IPL 2023. But, his talent is for all to see. Delhi Capitals (DC) picked him up for a decent 4 crore (approx. US$708,000), where he can play an important role in the middle order alongside the returning Rishabh Pant. Plus, when you consider DC have David Warner, Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh in their top three, it’s shaping up to be an exciting batting lineup.

Gerald Coetzee to MI for 5 crore

Cricket Opinion: A look at the top 5 best value for money picks from the 2024 IPL Auction

South African Gerald Coetzee was also tipped to go for higher than his eventual 5 crore (approx. US$885,000). Coetzee has made a huge impression in 2023, where he finished level with Mumbai Indians (MI) teammate Jasprit Bumrah with 20 wickets in the Cricket World Cup. More impressive was the fact he struck every 19.05 deliveries and looked to lift his team’s spirits, especially in the semi-final against Australia.

Coetzee for 5 crore represents a solid auction for MI. Their bowling looks to have more to it compared to recent seasons, which should complement an incredible batting lineup nicely.

MCG Melbourne weather forecast for 2023 Boxing Day Test

Cricket News: MCG Melbourne weather forecast for 2023 Boxing Day Test | Will it rain during the 2023 Boxing Day Test?

It’s that time of year again. The MCG Boxing Day Test is back. Australia, both World Test and World Cup champions, are aiming to beat Pakistan again after a convincing victory in Perth headlined by David Warner’s whirlwind century, Mitchell Marsh’s excellent all-round display, and Nathan Lyon’s 500th Test wicket.

Unfortunately for the tourists, rain looks to be their best chance of getting a result in this series. Unfortunately for fans, rain is expected to play a factor on the first day at least. Here is a look at the weather forecast for the showpiece Test match.

MCG weather forecast for Boxing Day Test between Australia and Pakistan

According to the Bureau of Meteorology (bom.gov.au), there is a 60% chance of showers in Melbourne on Boxing Day. Anywhere between 0-10mm is expected to fall. This follows on from Christmas Day where more rainfall (up to 25mm) is forecast. Such conditions may result in more moisture on the pitch due to it being placed under covers for an extended period.

The forecast looks much more promising from Wednesday onwards according to bom.gov.au. Just 0-1mm is expected on day two (27th December), followed by partly cloudy conditions and just a 20% chance of rain on day three.

However, AccuWeather, which is typically considered the most accurate platform, predicts 3.7mm of rain on day two after 5.8mm on day one. Day three is expected to be dry, but day four (29 December) is forecast to have up to 7.6mm of rainfall.

Cricket News: MCG Melbourne weather forecast for 2023 Boxing Day Test | Will it rain during the 2023 Boxing Day Test?

Given the Test is still a few days away, one can hope the forecast will change. Also, the Melbourne weather is notoriously unpredictable. Rainfall was forecast for a recent Big Bash League match between Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers on December 12, but the match was completed without interruption.

Pakistan will be aiming to end their run of 15 straight Test defeats in Australia. Their last win was way back in 1995, and three of the five Tests have finished in an innings victory for Australia. Add to that the 360-run demolition in Perth last week, and Shan Masood’s team have their work cut out to turn things around on this tour.

Sydney Sixers will take on Adelaide Strikers in match 11 of the BBL 2023/24 season. The Sixers have started yet another campaign in strong fashion, winning both their matches in a mix of professionalism and teamwork to get the job done. That was on show as Daniel Hughes stepped up as Steve Smith’s replacement in Hobart after the latter went on Test duty.

For the Strikers, they’ll be confident heading into this clash on the back of chasing over 200 earlier this week against the Sydney Thunder. The opening combination consisting of the two Short’s fired right away, while Adam Hose packs plenty of punch in the middle order. But, the big question is whether the Strikers attack can keep the Sixers quiet.

SIX vs STR Possible Playing XIs

Tom Curran is unavailable due to suspension. He was charged with intimidating the umpire. However, Sean Abbott is back in the squad and is expected to play. Hayden Kerr is also back in contention.

  • Head-to-head: Matches 19, Sixers 12, Strikers 7.

  • Steve O’Keefe can keep Chris Lynn quiet. Lynn has scored just 33 off 47 balls against him (one dismissal). Also, O’Keefe has dismissed Matt Short twice in 21 balls for 23 runs.
  • Hayden Kerr hit a memorable 98* against Strikers two years ago. But, he was opening the batting on that occasion.
