What did Temba Bavuma say after he was ignored in the SA20 Auction?

Cricket News: What did Temba Bavuma say after he was ignored in the SA20 Auction? | Temba Bavuma opens up on not being picked in the SA20 Auction

South Africa limited-overs skipper Temba Bavuma has opened up on being disappointed and let down after being ignored in the SA20 auction this week. Bavuma had set his base price at Rand 850,000 but found no takers amongst the six franchises for the brand-new franchise T20 league.

“I’ll be lying if I said that I didn’t have any feelings of disappointment. I certainly was expecting to play a role in the tournament,” the 32-year-old was quoted in a report by ESPNcricinfo.

Disappointed, but focused on India – Bavuma after the SA20 Auction

He added, “From my side, there are definitely feelings of disappointment and also feelings of almost being let down in a way. I don’t think that comes from any point of entitlement from my side.”

Bavuma’s scenario presented a unique case of a national side captain going unpicked for the country’s premier T20 competition. He has led the Proteas in 13 ODIs and 17 T20Is respectively so far. However, Bavuma has been out of international action since June as he was nursing an elbow injury.

“I am cautioning myself to not delve too deep into this whole matter. As much as I’d like to speak more about it, this is probably not the right time. Our focus right now is on India and the World Cup. We are doing what we need to do there,” he further talked about the issue.

Outgoing head coach Mark Boucher insisted that the team backs Bavuma through this time in a way that ‘you’ cannot believe. “The guys were there last night, we were having a couple of drinks, and I could just see the energy around him because I understand the situation he is going through. The bottom line is we are on a journey, and we have been on a journey the last two years,” Boucher provided an insight into the team environment.

He further explained that there is a need to separate the upcoming T20 leagues from the national team focus. Boucher conceded that the happenings in leagues and auctions are uncontrollable but he reiterated that the team has placed its 100 per cent backing as South Africa heads into the T20 World Cup in Australia next year.

Highest successful run chases in T20Is without losing a wicket

Cricket News: Highest successful run chases in T20Is without losing a wicket | What is the highest run chase in T20I without losing a wicket?

The conventional practice of opening batsmen providing a solid start to an innings has often gone missing in the T20 cricket era. Nowadays, openers are expected to either go big or go home. However, Pakistan’s peerless effort against England in Karachi on Thursday showed that there’s space for openers to build an innings and construct their innings consciously in this particular format as well.

Highest run chases in T20Is without the loss of a wicket

In that backdrop, Cricblog takes a look at the five highest run-chases by teams in T20Is without losing a wicket.

1. Pakistan vs England: 203/0, Karachi, 2022

Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam rounded up a flawless run chase against England at the National Stadium in Karachi in September 2022. Chasing 200, the Pakistani openers took apart the English bowling line-up. Together, they struck 16 fours and 11 sixes and particularly mercilessly decimated Luke Wood during the course of the innings.

The Pakistani middle-order has come under scanner in recent times. In that context, it was all the more important for Babar and Rizwan to assume greater responsibility in the run-up to the T20 World Cup. The duo did that sublimely and has set the stage well for the side to do one up from the semi-final finish in the previous edition of the tournament.

2. New Zealand vs Pakistan: 171/0, Hamilton, 2016

In early 2016, the Kiwi opening pair of Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill chased down 169 with utmost ease against a fairly strong Pakistani bowling unit. The two of them went all guns blazing together and managed to cross over the finishing line in the 18th over itself.

Williamson and Guptill were equally incredible against the pacers as well as the spinners. Mohammed Amir’s left-arm pace was provided no respite by the aforementioned duo as they made light work of what appeared to be a tricky chase against a crafty bowling attack.

3. England vs India, 170/0, Adelaide, 2022

What a takedown from two elite T20 players. Jos Buttler and Alex Hales made a mockery of India’s 168/6 in the 2022 World Cup semi-final, reaching the target with 24 balls and ten wickets to spare.

At the halfway mark, India would have thought they were a chance with 168 on the board thanks to Hardik Pandya’s 33-ball 63. However, all hope was snuffed out by the end of the powerplay, where England raced to 63/0. From there, the dynamic opening duo simply cruised, taking down India’s bowlers who simply had no answers.

4. India vs Pakistan, 152/0, Dubai, 2021

Babar and Rizwan aren’t really new to mastering T20I chases. Last year, they spearheaded Pakistan’s first victory against India in a World Cup tie in the Dubai International Stadium. India had put up an under-par 151 runs in the first innings but the Pakistani openers rendered the Indian bowlers toothless.

They were both cautious yet proactive in their approach and never let the Indian bowlers slip in some tight overs in between. Mohammed Shami had a poor day at the office but none of his other teammates offered enough bite that could trouble the arch-rivals in such a crucial encounter.

5. England vs New Zealand, 143/0, Wellington, 2013

The English T20I side wasn’t really known for its T20I credentials before Eoin Morgan brought about a revolution on that front from 2015 onwards. However, Michael Lumb and Alex Hales had provided a slight glimmer of hope for what rested ahead for their limited-overs fortunes way back in 2013 itself.

Hales had triggered an absolute onslaught as he notched 80 runs off 42 deliveries, which included nine fours and four sixes. Lumb in fact hit five sixes and only a single boundary and England managed to chase down a modest target of 140 in merely 12.4 overs!

Another memorable finish by Matthew Wade, coupled with more poor death bowling by India, now means that that series is on the line for the home side. While this series result isn’t the be all and end all, ironing out issues ahead of the World Cup is of huge priority for both teams, as a big crowd awaits in top level cricket’s return to Nagpur.

India’s approach batting first has been a hallmark of their T20 cricket in 2022. Their average first innings score has been a lot higher this year compared to last, which provides a positive for Rohit Sharma’s team. However, finishing the job, especially with the ball, will be key, and they will certainly be tested again against an Australia team with big hitters in their middle order.

Speaking of Australia, Aaron Finch’s team is looking settled. Runs for the captain, Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith is high on the agenda, and a big performance by Tim David in Australian colours will be icing on the cake. But, like India, Australia’s bowlers are under the microscope after a difficult finish in Mohali, courtesy of Hardik Pandya.

IND vs AUS 2nd T20 Possible Playing XI

Jasprit Bumrah is expected to return. Details here.

India: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. KL Rahul, 3. Virat Kohli, 4. Suryakumar Yadav, 5. Hardik Pandya, 6. Dinesh Karthik/Rishabh Pant (wk), 7. Axar Patel, 8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar/Deepak Chahar, 9. Harshal Patel, 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

Australia could select the same XI.

Australia: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. Cameron Green, 3. Steve Smith, 4. Glenn Maxwell, 5. Josh Inglis, 6. Tim David, 7. Matthew Wade (wk), 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Adam Zampa, 10. Nathan Ellis, 11. Josh Hazlewood

IND vs AUS Head-to-Head Stats & Key Players

India:

  • Hardik Pandya was at his brilliant best in the first T20I (71* off 30 balls). In T20s this year, Hardik has hammered 889 runs at an average of 40.40 and strike rate of 140.22.
  • KL Rahul, who struck a fluent fifty in Mohali, has hit two half-centuries in two T20s at Nagpur. His battle with Hazlewood will be interesting, as KL has a good strike rate against him in all T20s: 44 balls faced, 65 runs, two dismissals.
  • Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has not enjoyed past success at Nagpur (three matches, 47 runs). But, he has a great record against Australia, with easily the most runs in IND-AUS T20Is: 19 inns, 720 runs, avg. 55.38, SR 144.57.
  • Suryakumar Yadav has smashed 613 runs this year at a strike rate of 182.44. This is easily the best strike rate for India among players who have batted in five innings or more, with Sanju Samson’s 158.40 the next best.
  • Axar Patel was outstanding in the first T20I (3/17). Tim David has been dismissed four times by slow left-arm orthodox for just 52 runs (SR 115) in T20s this year. Glenn Maxwell fares worse, dismissed six times for 52 runs at a strike rate of 115.55.
  • Jasprit Bumrah is expected to return. The pacer has taken ten wickets in just five T20Is at Nagpur at an average of 9.10 and superb economy of 4.63.
  • Also, Bumrah has a great record against Maxwell in T20s. The pacer has dismissed the big hitter seven times in 65 balls, conceding just 75 in the process.

Australia:

  • What a performance it was by Cameron Green in the first T20I. The all-rounder turned opener smashed 61 at a strike rate of above 200. This included 16 off six balls against Umesh, 11 off five against Harshal and 21 off eight against Chahal.
  • Steve Smith’s new approach was on show in Mohali. He struck at 145.83, which is well above his career T20 strike rate of 122.60 against India. Overall vs IND, Smith has scored 141 runs in seven knocks at an average of 23.50.
  • Can Glenn Maxwell find his rhythm? Against India in India, Maxwell has scored 245 runs in six innings at an average of 49.00 and strike rate of 155.06. This includes a century.
  • Matthew Wade has a strike rate of 213.1 between overs 16 and 20 in T20Is since the start of 2021. He has smashed 179 runs off 84 balls in this period.
  • Nathan Ellis impressed in the first T20I, with 3/30. He dismissed Virat Kohli in the powerplay, followed by finishers Axar Patel and Dinesh Karthik. Ellis now has 12 wickets in his four T20Is so far.
  • Josh Hazlewood has taken 70 wickets in 43 innings in T20s since the start of 2021. He is striking every 14.07 balls on average in this period.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 24, India 13, Australia 10, N/R 1.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 19 runs in the penultimate over of the Asia Cup match against Pakistan. He then conceded 15 in each of the 17th and 19th overs against Australia. So, India could look to bowl Kumar out early.
  • Josh Hazlewood is two away from 50 T20I wickets. He has played 31 T20Is to date. The current fastest Australian to 50 T20I wickets is Mitchell Starc (40 matches).
  • Against Australia in India, Rohit Sharma has scored just 55 runs in six innings at an average of 9.16 and top score of 12.

Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur Pitch Report

The team batting first has won nine of 12 T20Is at Nagpur. In these matches, the average first innings score is just 151. Also, Deepak Chahar took figures of 6/7 on this ground against Bangladesh in 2019.

The forecast is for mostly cloudy conditions, with temperatures around 25 degrees. So, there may be minimal dew.

IPL 2023 schedule: Will there be a full home and away format?

Cricket News: IPL 2023 schedule: Will there be a full home and away season? | Sourav Ganguly provides update on IPL 2023 season

According to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, the Indian Premier League (IPL) will return to a full home and away season, as was the case pre-COVID-19. Since the start of the 2020 season, matches have been played at a limited number of venues in both India and UAE, with the majority played behind closed doors. 2023 is set to see a move towards normalcy when it comes to the IPL.

IPL 2023 schedule expected to more stadiums used as per pre-2020

Ganguly, in a note to the board’s affiliated state units, said that IPL 2023 will see teams have home and away games, as was the case pre-2020. For example, Royal Challengers Bangalore will return to the Chinnaswamy, Rajasthan Royals to Sawai Masingh, Chennai Super Kings to Chepauk and so on.

“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all ten teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” Ganguly’s note read. The president’s note also included the Women’s IPL, set for early 2023 after the T20 World Cup ends in February in South Africa. This is in addition to a new girls’ under-15 one-day competition.

“The BCCI is currently working on the much-awaited Women’s IPL. We are expecting to start the first season early next year,” Ganguly wrote.

“We are glad to introduce a girls U15 One Day tournament from this season. Women’s cricket has seen phenomenal growth across the world and our national team has been performing well. This new tournament will create a pathway for our young girls to play at the national and international level.”

Also, according to ESPNcricinfo, a full domestic season in penciled in to start in early September. This includes the Duleep Trophy – in a zonal format – and the Irani Cup, in addition to the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

TKR vs SKN Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: CPL 2022 Match 26

TKR vs SKN Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: CPL 2022 Match 26 | TKR vs SKN Dream11 Prediction Today | Guyana Pitch Report

It’s now or never for the disappointing St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The defending champions, after their fifth defeat yesterday, are on the brink of elimination before the CPL 2022 playoffs. With just six points in nine games, St Kitts must win today and hope other results go their way to qualify for the final four.

Batting has been St Kitts’ biggest issue. Only Andre Fletcher (37.83) is averaging above 20 among the top seven, with under-par seasons by the likes of Evin Lewis and Sherfane Rutherford hurting them badly. It won’t get easier today against an established Trinbago Knight Riders attack, who themselves need to win to cement their place in the top four.

With regards to TKR, it has also been an under-par season for the star-studded lineup. But, this is the perfect time to peak. Nicholas Pooran, who is having a poor campaign, returns to a ground he has a great record at. Andre Russell is showing glimpses. Ravi Rampaul continues to take wickets. Akeal Hosein is a terrific spinner. Now, it’s time to put it all together.

TKR vs SKN Possible Playing XI

Trinbago Knight Riders: 1. Tim Seifert (wk), 2. Leonardo Julien, 3. Colin Munro, 4. Nicholas Pooran, 5. Kieron Pollard (c), 6. Andre Russell, 7. Sunil Narine, 8. Akeal Hosein, 9. Khary Pierre, 10. Ravi Rampaul, 11. Daryn Dupavilion

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots: 1. Andre Fletcher (wk), 2. Evin Lewis, 3. Darren Bravo, 4. Dewald Brevis, 5. Sherfane Rutherford, 6. Keacy Carty, 7. Dwayne Bravo (c), 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Duan Jansen, 10. Sheldon Cottrell, 11. Akila Dananjaya

TKR vs SKN Head-to-Head Stats & Key Players

Trinbago Knight Riders:

  • Nicholas Pooran has scored the third-most runs of any player in T20s at Providence Stadium. The left-hander has struck 416 runs in 12 innings at an incredible average of 69.33 and strike rate of 177.78.
  • Colin Munro has scored the most runs by any TKR player against St Kitts (350). He averages 31.82 and strikes at 128.68 against them.
  • Can Munro overcome a poor record on this ground? He averages just 13.00 in six matches (78 runs) with a strike rate of 95.12.
  • Kieron Pollard strikes at 169.89 against St Kitts since the start of 2019 (5 matches, 158 runs, avg. 39.50). Can the TKR captain find form in a season where he is averaging just 12.57?
  • Andre Russell has scored just 158 runs in 13 matches against St Kitts at an average of 19.75 and strike rate of 139.82. His top score this season just 23*, but he has faced only 56 balls. TKR will be well served giving Russell more time at the crease.
  • Ravi Rampaul is TKR’s leading wicket-taker this season (11). He took 4/19 a few days ago. The pacer has taken five wickets in four matches against St Kitts at an economy of 8.47.
  • Sunil Narine is conceding just 4.89 runs per over in CPL 2022 (9 wickets). Akeal Hosein is conceding just 5.56 per over (8 wickets). How St Kitts deal with these two spinners will be key.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots:

  • Evin Lewis has the most runs in TKR-SKN matches (456) at an average of 30.40 and strike rate of 145.22. He is coming off a 36-ball 41 against Barbados yesterday.
  • Andre Fletcher is SKN’s leading run-scorer this season (227) with an average of 37.83 and strike rate of 111.27. Against TKR, Fletcher has scored 564 at an average of 31.33 and strike rate of 105.42.
  • It’s been a horror season for Sherfane Rutherford (73 runs, avg. 12.16), and it didn’t get better yesterday (9). He averages just 19.83 in 10 matches vs TKR, but he does have good numbers on this ground: 8 inns, 235 runs, avg. 47.00, SR 143.29.
  • Dwayne Bravo has taken 14 wickets in 11 innings at Providence Stadium. The St Kitts captain is crucial to his team’s hopes today, particularly against TKR’s big hitting middle order.
  • TKR’s inability to find fluency this season brings Rashid Khan into the contest. The legspinner is conceding just 5.25 runs per over in four matches so far this season (4 wickets).
  • Sheldon Cottrell has an impressive 19 wickets in 12 matches vs TKR since the start of 2016 (avg. 16.63, econ. 7.35).

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 19, St Kitts 5, Trinbago 13, 1 N/R.
  • The previous meeting between the teams was washed out without a ball bowled.
  • Defeat for SKN today will officially end their campaign.

Providence Stadium Guyana Pitch Report and Weather

As Guyana’s late hitting and Brandon King’s hundred showed, the Guyana surface can be conducive to six hitting. But, consistency has been a problem for most teams with the bat, and it remains to be seen if that is the case today.

A very hot day is forecast, with humidity levels expected to see a RealFeel temperature of about 38 degrees. According to AccuWeather, there should be mostly sunny conditions for this match.

Will Jasprit Bumrah play in the 2nd T20 against Australia?

Cricket News: Will Jasprit Bumrah play in the 2nd T20 against Australia? | Update on whether Jasprit Bumrah will play in 2nd T20I vs Australia

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to be drafted into the playing XI for the second T20I vs Australia in Nagpur on Friday.

Bumrah has been recovering from a back injury over the last two months and was hence sidelined from the Asia Cup too. However, he was included in the squad for the ongoing series against Australia, leading to conjecture that he has recuperate completely.

Surprisingly though, Bumrah sat out of the first T20I against the visitors in Mohali on Tuesday. Now, it has emerged that the team management had decided against rushing the pacer back into action straightaway after his long injury layoff.

However, he will be back in the XI for the second game as India will look to fight back after facing a loss in the opening game of the series.

Jasprit Bumrah set to play 2nd T20I against Australia in Nagpur

“The team management did not want to rush him and that is the reason for his absence in the Mohali game,” a source in the know of developments was quoted in a report by Cricbuzz

He added, “He has been bowling full blast at the nets and he is ready for action.”

Bumrah will reportedly replace Umesh Yadav in the playing XI in the second match in Nagpur. All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who struck a swashbuckling 71* in the first T20I, also opened up on Bumrah’s importance to the side in one of the interactions.

According to the aforementioned website, Pandya reiterated trust in the squad and asserted that these are the ‘best 15 people you have in the country and that is why they are there in the squad.’

“So Jasprit not being there obviously makes a big difference. Even if he is not there, (and as) he is coming back after an injury, it is important for him to get enough time to kind of come back. Maybe (he should) not put pressure on himself in whichever game he comes back and plays,” the Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper further opened up on the issue.

The Rohit Sharma-led side will be edging to stage a comeback as their form has come under scanner post the early exit from the Asia Cup as well. Bumrah’s return has been highly-anticipated as the current set of bowlers have struggled in the death during the recent past.

The final couple of T20Is of this series will be played in Nagpur and Hyderabad on Friday and Sunday respectively.

GUY vs JAM Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: CPL 2022 Match 25 | GUY vs JAM Dream11 Prediction Today | Guyana Pitch Report

Guyana Amazon Warriors return home to Providence Stadium, and have some catching up to do. After four defeats in their first six matches, the Guyana leg of the tournament is do-or-die for Shimron Hetmyer’s team, who currently sit four points outside of the top four.

Logically speaking, Guyana have enough all-round talent to win more matches. The key is the top order setting a better platform for big hitters including Romario Shepherd and Odean Smith to make an impact. Also, with spinners Imran Tahir and now Shakib Al Hasan, Guyana can never be counted out, but it’s time to get things right.

Jamaica Tallawahs can go a long way to confirming a playoffs berth with victory here. The Tallawahs have been solid without being consistent in CPL 2022, and now is the perfect time to find top form with the business end of the season upon us. They did beat Guyana earlier this season, with Mohammad Amir, who will be key today, superb in that match with 3/22.

GUY vs JAM Possible Playing XI

Shakib Al Hasan has joined the Warriors for the remainder of CPL 2022. Rahmanullah Gurbaz has also joined the Warriors, in place of Heinrich Klaasen.

Mohammad Nabi is now part of the Tallawahs squad, coming in for Sandeep Lamichhane.

Jamaica Tallawahs: 1. Brandon King, 2. Amir Jangoo (wk), 3. Shamarh Brooks, 4. Rovman Powell (c), 5. Raymon Reifer, 6. Imad Wasim, 7. Fabian Allen, 8. Chris Green/Mohammad Nabi, 9. Migael Pretorius, 10. Mohammad Amir, 11. Nicholson Gordon

Overcast and humid conditions are forecast in Guyana, with a chance of rain throughout the day and evening. So, there is the possibility of a shortened match.

Earlier this year, West Indies chased down Bangladesh’s 163 with ten balls to spare on what was a good batting pitch at Providence Stadium.

Twitter reactions: Wade shines, India falter at death again

Cricket News: Twitter reactions: Wade shines, India falter at death again | Twitter reactions as Australia beats India in first T20I at Mohali

India suffered a crushing four-wicket loss against Australia in the opening T20I of the three-match series in Mohali on Tuesday. Batting first, the home side put up 208 runs courtesy half-centuries from Hardik Pandya (71*) and KL Rahul (56). However, Cameron Green (60) and Matthew Wade (45*) powered the Aussies to an incredibly successful run-chase.

The Indian bowling faltered with nobody other than Axar Patel providing any resistance to the Australian onslaught. The duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel were taken to cleaners towards the death.

Bhuvneshwar’s performances towards the backend of the innings have already been under the scanner after his recent insipid performances in that phase in the Asia Cup. Cricblog takes a look at certain pertinent reactions on Twitter following Tuesday’s game between the two arch-rivals.

Twitter reactions as Australia beat India at the death

“I don’t think we bowled well. 200 is a good score to defend, and we didn’t take our chances in the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but bowlers were not quite there. There are things we need to look at, but it was a great game for us to understand what went wrong. We know this is a high-scoring ground. You can’t relax even if you get 200. We took wickets to an extent, but they played really well,” skipper Rohit said in the post-match presentation ceremony, as reported by Cricbuzz.

“We need to look at our bowling before the next game,” he further conceded whilst admitting that India needed to pick that additional wicket that could have changed the course of the game.

India will next face Australia for the second T20I of the series in Nagpur on Friday. Death-bowling has become a major cause of concern in recent months, especially in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Whether the team continues to persist with its strategy or opts for a change in the XI in order to shake things up remains to be seen.

BR vs SKN Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: CPL 2022 Match 24 | BR vs SKN Dream11 Prediction Today | Guyana Pitch Report

The Guyana leg of CPL 2022 is here, and it’s well and truly crunch time for champions St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. In what has been a season where they have not got going, their campaign hangs on a knife’s edge as they sit one point outside the top four with two games remaining and the worst net run rate. So, it’s must win.

And they have the toughest task of this CPL awaiting them. Barbados Royals have been outstanding, winning seven of their eight matches in a total turnaround from their last two disappointing seasons. Last time out, they overcame challenges to beat Guyana Amazon Warriors, finishing with a 29-run win even after being reduced to 38/4 in 9.3 overs in a 16-over match.

BR vs SKN Possible Playing XI

Barbados Royals: 1. Rakheem Cornwall, 2. Kyle Mayers, 3. Quinton de Kock (wk), 4. Corbin Bosch, 5. David Miller (c), 6. Azam Khan, 7. Jason Holder, 8. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 9. Hayden Walsh, 10. Obed McCoy, 11. Ramon Simmonds

The spotlight will be on St Kitts’ batsmen as only Andre Fletcher is averaging above 20 among their top six.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots: 1. Andre Fletcher (wk), 2. Evin Lewis, 3. Darren Bravo, 4. Dewald Brevis, 5. Sherfane Rutherford, 6. Dwayne Bravo (c), 7. Dwaine Pretorius, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Duan Jansen, 10. Akila Dananjaya, 11. Jaden Carmichael

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots:

  • Andre Fletcher hit 81 off 55 balls against Barbados earlier this season. He is St Kitts’ leading run-scorer in CPL 2022, with 207 runs in six innings at an average of 41.10. Whether he can improve on that strike rate of 113.11 will be key.
  • Fletcher will also be looking to improve on a poor record at Providence Stadium. In 12 innings on this ground, the opener has scored just 143 runs at an average of 15.89 and strike rate of 80.79.
  • Evin Lewis has also found the going tough at Guyana, with 115 runs in eight innings at an average of 16.43 and strike rate of 72.33. He fares better overall against Barbados, with 360 runs in 12 innings since 2015 at an average of 30.00 and strike rate of 147.54.

  • Dwayne Bravo has taken six wickets in his last three matches against Barbados, including 2/33 earlier this season. Also, the experienced campaigner has the fourth-most wickets in T20s at Providence Stadium, with 13 in 10 innings at an average of 22.77 and strike rate of 15.69.
  • Dwaine Pretorius (six wickets, batting SR 119.14) has shown only glimpses of what he is capable of this season. St Kitts desperately need him to have a good day today.
  • Rashid Khan continues to be miserly (econ. 5.41 in three games this season), and will be a test for the Barbados batsmen. The legspinner has taken at least one wicket in each of his matches so far in CPL 2022.

PAK vs ENG 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | PAK vs ENG 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction Today | Karachi Pitch Report

It’s time for some history. The last time England toured Pakistan, they were fresh off victory in one of the most memorable Test series of all time, the 2005 Ashes. Even since the Lahore events of 2009, it seems unthinkable that England haven’t toured Pakistan in that time, but all that wonder can be put to bed as the two sides line up for one of seven T20Is in a marathon series ahead of the World Cup.

Asia Cup 2022 Finalists Pakistan will be aiming for the perfect start. A lot has been made of their strike rates, and rightly so, with a focus on anchoring the innings ultimately costing them the Final against Sri Lanka. If they are to make an impact in the upcoming World Cup, one feels Pakistan need to shelve the desire to anchor for extended periods. The onus is on Babar Azam, who was coy on strike rates in the lead up to this series, to have a much better time of things than in the recent Asia Cup.

Babar and Pakistan will have the opportunity to find form against a new-look England side decimated by injuries. The tourists themselves have had a tough year in T20Is, with poor performances in the powerplay with bat and ball meaning they have a lot of catching up to do. David Willey and the returning Alex Hales will be key in rectifying that.

PAK vs ENG 1st T20 Possible Playing XI

Shan Masood is expected to be rewarded for his outstanding 2022 and make his T20I debut in place of the injured Fakhar Zaman. Also, Mohammad Rizwan is expected to be rested after a big Asia Cup campaign. Shaheen Shah Afridi is still unavailable.

Pakistan: 1. Babar Azam (c), 2. Shan Masood, 3. Mohammad Haris (wk), 4. Iftikhar Ahmed, 5. Khushdil Shah, 6. Shadab Khan, 7. Asif Ali, 8. Mohammad Nawaz, 9. Naseem Shah, 10. Haris Rauf, 11. Mohammad Hasnain

England are battling injuries. Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood are unavailable until the Lahore matches. Reece Topley is also out with an ankle issue. Jonny Bairstow is out of the World Cup too due to a freak injury.

However, this series marks the return of Alex Hales. It has been a long time coming. Moeen Ali will lead the team.

England: 1. Alex Hales, 2. Phil Salt (wk), 3. Dawid Malan, 4. Harry Brook, 5. Moeen Ali (c), 6. Will Jacks, 7. Sam Curran, 8. David Willey, 9. Adil Rashid, 10. Olly Stone, 11. Richard Gleeson

PAK vs ENG 1st T20 Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Pakistan:

  • The spotlight is on Babar Azam after a poor Asia Cup. The captain has a terrific record in T20s at Karachi National Stadium, with 1,458 runs in 34 matches at an average of 60.75 and strike rate of 133.15.

In 16 T20s at Karachi, Khushdil has scored 246 runs at an average of 30.75 and strike rate of 138.20. • Mohammad Nawaz was one of Pakistan’s top performers in the recent Asia Cup. Expect him to have a say in the powerplay and middle overs as England are expected to have at least four right-handers in their top six.
  • Mohammad Hasnain in T20s at Karachi: 16 inns, 24 wickets, avg. 20.63, SR 14.96.

  • Adil Rashid vs Pakistan: 9 inns, 12 wickets, avg. 22.41, econ. 7.68, SR 17.5.
  • Richard Gleeson will be key as a yorker exponent in the death overs. He strikes every 7.5 deliveries on average between overs 16 and 20 in T20s in 2022.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 21, Pakistan 6, England 14, N/R 1.
  • Shadab Khan has a batting strike rate of 152.57 in 15 innings at Karachi (267 runs, avg. 22.25).
  • Dawid Malan has an important role to play in the absence of key players. He will be aiming to improve on his record against Pakistan which reads: 6 inns, 117 runs, avg. 23.40, SR 105.40.

National Stadium Karachi Pitch Report and Weather

It is usually a batting paradise in Karachi, where the ball skids through. According to reports, it is a hard surface for the first T20I.

In PSL 2022, the team batting first won eight games compared to seven for the chasing teams on this ground. The average first innings score was 182.67 in these 15 matches. Nonetheless, expect the captain who wins the toss to choose to chase with a chance of dew in hot and humid conditions.
